Sector: Client: Value: Duration: Local Authority, Consultants & Leisure Southend-On-Sea Borough Council £100,000 10 weeks Following a successful tendering process Carmelcrest were awarded the contract to construct 8 sustainable beach huts at East Beach, Shoeburyness. We used our expertise to aid the development of the original design, to ensure prac- tical build-ability. To assist this process we erected a live size model within our work- shop facility for the architects to approve the final design. Managing the process of pre-fabrication is something Carmelcrest is very experienced at. The beach huts were prefabricated in our workshop based in Waltham Abbey and, using our ‘Just In Time’ delivery process, construction was completed on location. The sustainable design included: Sedum Green Roofing System Recycled timber from Southend Pier Recycled plastic lumber foundations Recycled pallets in filled with recycled crushed glass, shells and pebbles Carmelcrest worked closely with architects Pedder and Scampton. Leading architect Gill Scampton said “Carmelcrest were a pleasure to work with on the Beach Huts pro- ject. Their commitment to the project, proactive ‘can do’ attitude and assistance in developing the prototype were all key to a very successful outcome.” Our quality delivery, effective collaboration and teamwork led to the project winning various innovative design awards along with 100% recycle rating, supporting our ISO 14001 accreditation.
