Taking a 200-year-old tip from the French for storing butter, the B.I.A. butter crock keeps soft butter on the counter for several weeks. Simply fill the base with 1/4 cup cold water, pack a stick of softened butter into the lid (which dou-bles as a serving dish) and invert into the base. The water creates a seal to keep butter fresh. PRODUCT OF THE MONTH — JAMIE OLIVER KITCHENWARE

Page 3

VOLUME 2, ISSUE 5

Jamie Oliver is a fresh face in the culinary world, known for his best-selling cookbooks and his regular appearance on television in Canada, the US and England. He says his goal is to make cooking at home fun and easy for everyone, and it is for that reason he’s introduced a line of kitchenware that is now available in Canada.

Like Jamie himself, his product line is fun and practical. Consider his “Girls Cook Better” or “I’m Cooking, You’re Washing Up” reversible aprons, which are practical and fun.

Other products in the line include a portable cooking burner (no doubt a result of his recent travelling adventures through Italy in his camper van), a mezzaluna and board set, a pepper grinder pump and a pasta machine (Jamie is pas-sionate about pasta).

Many believe that Jamie has single-handedly made a granite mortar and pestle set a require-ment of modern cooking, so it is no wonder that he has created his own mortar and pestle with his name on it.

According to Jamie, “you don’t have to go crazy buying equipment, all you need to cook well is a good set of pots and pans, a couple of good knives, including an eight-inch chopper, a heavy mortar and pestle, a set of tongs and a speed peeler.”

You can enjoy all of Jamie’s products, now avail-able at FROM THE KITCHEN TO THE TABLE.

Recently crowned the sexiest chef alive by People Magazine, you can catch Jamie’s Great Italian Escape, Jamie’s Kitchen and The Naked Chef on Food Network television.

With files from the Food Network, www.toptastes.com and T-FAL.

Mother’s Day Dinner Menu

This Mother’s Day treat your mom to a special meal that you’ve prepared. We offer an Asian-flavoured menu fea-turing recipes from Rose Reisman’s most recent book “Secrets for Permanent Weight Loss”*, which we are sure you will find are as delicious as they are healthy.

Following the meal, try one of my favourite dessert recipes from Kaiser Bakeware — their raspberry loaf, which is a great finale to a wonderful meal.

Enjoy and happy Mother’s Day.

All recipes can be found at: www.kitchentotable.com

Asian Style Mother’s Day Dinner Menu

• Sesame-sprinkled scallops with sweet chili sauce (pg. 139—Secrets for Permanent Weight Loss*)

• Indonesian salad with sesame-miso dressing (pg. 164—Secrets for Permanent Weight Loss*)

• Flank steak with Thai marinade (pg. 187—Secrets for Permanent Weight Loss*)

• Raspberry Loaf Cake (see recipe below)

2 sticks soft butter 2 cups sugar 2 tsp. vanilla extract 4 eggs 2 cups flour 3 tbsp. cornstarch 1 1/2 tsp baking powder 1/2 cup vanilla yogurt 12 ounce package, frozen raspberries

Glaze: 2 cups icing sugar 1/2 cup milk 1/2 cup frozen raspberries (optional)

• Preheat oven to 325. Grease a Kaiser or Emile Henry loaf pan.

• In a large bowl cream butter until smooth. Add sugar and vanilla extract and keep mixing until creamy. Mix in eggs, one at a time until creamy.

• In a separate bowl combine flour with cornstarch and baking pow-der. Sift and gradually add to butter mixture, mixing on medium speed. Stir in vanilla and yogurt.

• Add 1/3 batter to the bottom of loaf pan, then add 1/3 of the fro-zen raspberries. Repeat layers twice.

• Bake in preheated oven for about 95 minutes, covering cake with parchment paper if the top starts to get too dark.

• Cool cake in pan for about 10 minutes, and then turn out onto cool-ing rack and cool completely.

• For the glaze combine the icing sugar and milk and beat until smooth. Drizzle over top and sides of cake. (For more raspberry flavour, puree 1/2 cup of frozen raspberries until smooth, then add to the glaze.)
