Missions ~ Clint Bowman Wow! Here we are with school already coming back into session. Kids are talking band and ball and getting excited about the possibilities. I’m sure the teachers and administrators are also. We need to seriously be praying for these folks as they face uncertain times due to the Covid 19 virus and its impact on school activities and schedules. Regardless, we are still focusing on Ruskin Elementary School and Waycross Middle School this fall. We will be collecting some supplies to help those teachers out. I am asking that folks donate as many bottles of hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes as possible. Then of course regular school supplies. Mrs. Solomon at Ruskin says that hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes are at the top of their wish list, so let’s please help’em out. A box will be in the church hallway or in the conference room for you to drop off stuff to help. Backpack ministry Once again, thank you for the 38 filled backpacks for the folks at Lovington, Virginia. The Baughs delivered them for us and we really appreciate them. By the way, Mrs. Billie Taylor and her husband from Lovingston are hoping to be here sometime during the first week of August to visit with us. She has been the coordinator on that end who has worked so diligently with us in our efforts for the children up there. School Prayerwalking Ministry We will not be allowed to enter the schools due to the virus threats but I am asking that we meet on Sunday afternoon, August 16th, at 3:30 at our two schools to pray around the flagpole and walk around the exterior of the school (if you are so interested in doing so). I will personally be at Waycross Middle for this event and one of our other staff members will be at Ruskin Elementary. Y’all please come join us! These schools seriously appreciate our efforts as we pray for them. And it is a good witness for the community to see us show up. Probably all of us will be finished and gone by 4:15 or so.

August already? What happened to all the months in between March and July? So excited that Chil-dren's Church has started back on Sundays during the 11:00 am service and so thankful for those who are serving and will serve as workers during the morning worship. Please see Bro. Daniel if you are interested in helping. It will be the fun and fastest hour of your week. Please check the JAM Channel were we still have videos for your children to sing and share in a Bible Story. Like everything else, life is always changing. In times like these, the Lord makes us look toward Him for the source of our strength. We began as Children's Director officially the first Sunday of August 2016. The journey the Lord has taken us on from that moment has been one of the best times in our lives. Very few have had the opportunity to share so personally and intimately in family lives like we have been honored to share. We have seen your children and grandchildren grow up and out of J.A.M., we have seen them grow from infants to come into J.A.M. as Juniors. For us this has been an incredible period of growth, love and a tremendous amount of laughter. The word that sums it up best is joy! Pure joy! The Lord has closed this chapter in our lives and it is a new and challenging season. The Lord is with us and we feel your prayers and love. Thanks for all you have done for us through the gifts of food, offers of help and all of your encouraging cards and texts. God Bless You! We have such a vision that the Children's Ministry at Second Baptist Church will continue to grow and increase the Kingdom. We are praying for our families and love you all so very much! God Bless, Richard and Jackie

SAMARITAN’S PURSE OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD This year’s goal for the Shoebox Ministry is 300 boxes. While we have done this many before, this would be more than 100 more than we did last year. We are excited about our opportunity to once again partner with this ministry. With the uncertainties of the COVID virus, we are going to list a few other opportunities for those wishing to participate in this ministry. 1. Filling a box can cost between $15 and $30 dollars with the higher cost including the $9 in shipping. If you are unable to go shopping and want to donate to help fill boxes, you could simply designate giving for Operation Christmas Child in donations given to the church. By giving directly to the church and designating this money for Operation Christmas Child, we will buy more items to help with packing boxes. 2. Boxes will be available in the hall of the church and you can choose a box that already has some items packed in them. Listed below are some bulk items that the church has purchased to help facilitate growing our box total. 3. If you would like to donate some ‘WOW’ items to pack in the boxes, we will include this with our basic supplies to create more boxes. Toys and fun items for kids are always needed and appreciated. 4. You can actually do a box online with Samaritan’s Purse. If you need to do it this way, we would appreciate you letting us know so that we can include this with our church total. The cost of building an online box is $25. Bulk items available at the church: Toothbrushes, Toothbrush holders, Bar soap, Soap holders, Combs, Pencils, Erasers, Crayons

Greetings to all who are still at home with limited trips to the outside world. Recently I noticed the beautiful Gala apples sitting on my counter uneaten, were becoming a little desperate for attention, so I made an apple crisp. As I was assembling the ingredients, I almost forgot the cinnamon, a most essential spice for a good apple crisp. That made my brain go automatically to our essential workers, who I have been much in prayer for because I have family members very close to my heart who are essential workers. It also brought to my mind all of our church family and how essential we are to each other. Colossians 2:2 reminds us that our hearts are encouraged because we are knit together in love. Lets continue to pray for and encourage each other and look forward to the time we can all be together again. I do have some plans on paper, written in pencil, for our Sunshine Fellowships. When it is safe to get it done in ink, I will be sharing with all of you. Be safe!! I love y’all !! Dianne

Thank You Notes

Second Baptist Church Family, We want to thank you all for your prayers, thoughts, kind words, cards, and monetary donations that we received throughout Lawson’s cancer journey. While we faced one of the scariest times of our lives, you gave us hope and love. We are humbled and thankful for your generosity. We are blessed to be a part of this amazing body of believers. Thank you for being in our corner and supporting our family. With love, Ben, Michelle, Jackson Hudson and Lawson
