The purpose of this newsletter is to keep Seattle Area Narcotics Anonymous members informed of the events and happenings of our fellowship. Every at-tempt is made to adhere to NAWS guidelines and SASC guidelines for news-letters. The content contained herein ex-presses the views and knowledge of it's con-tributors, not N.A. as a whole.
We Need your
submissions!
The Seattle Area News-
letter is in need of sub-missions.
It can be a personal story of how you the Fellow-ship or your Higher Power helped to get you through a tough time, your views on a particular quote from the Narcotics Anonymous literature that you happen to like, or a simple expression of gratitude.
You do not have to be a professional writer and
please don't worry if you think you can’t write well enough, we will be happy to make any spelling or punctuation corrections for you. The important thing is that you will be sharing your recovery with another addict. After all, we can only keep what we have by giving it away.
The length of your article isn’t important either. The only real criteria for submissions are that they reflect the message of Narcotics Anonymous and stick to the identifica-tion of ourselves as ad-dicts suffering from the disease of addiction.
Submissions can be Emailed to [email protected].
My name is Nikki and I am an
addict. I have been serving as
the Newsletter Coordinator for
just about one year now and I
would like to say it has been an
amazing experience.
First I would like to thank all of
my predecessors that started
and contributed to the Newslet-
ter over the many years it has
been in print. I would not have
had the opportunity to carry
the message this last year with-
out your experience, strength
and hope hand delivered in
each Newsletter. I would also
like to thank each and every
one of you for reading the
Newsletter and supporting the
changes we have made.
When I chose to become part of
the Newsletter committee I had
become complacent in my pro-
gram and was caught up in
what I thought was my
“normal” life. I was trying to
convince myself that I got clean
to live a “normal” life and what
I soon realized (like my hus-
band says) “normal is a setting
on a washing machine”. I will
NEVER be normal. What I
needed to focus on again was
my recovery and what better
way to do that…SERVICE
WORK!
What I got from being involved
with the Newsletter was fellow-
ship, friendship, and the thing I
least expected was self-esteem.
I came here broken and feeling
that I had nothing to offer and
nothing to contribute. And
what I have come to find out is
that I have a lot to offer.
I have many gifts that my
Higher Power has yet to unfold
to me. The longer I stay clean,
the more things are revealed to
me. Service work can do for me
what I cannot do for myself,
that is get connected.
My term has come to an end at
the end of December and we
are looking for a new Newslet-
ter Coordinator. I am here to
tell you from my own experi-
ence that this is a wonderful
way to share YOUR experience,
strength and hope with YOUR
Seattle Area Narcotics Anony-
mous family and a wonderful
way to give back what was so
freely given to you!
If you are interested please
show up at the Newsletter
Meeting December 19, 2010 at
2pm, Ballard Swedish Hospi-
tal, Conference Room C., or by
calling me at 425-772-0707. I
will be here every step of the
way to mentor anyone into the
position for as long as it takes.
Thank you for allowing me to
be of Service. It has truly been
an amazing and humbling jour-
ney!
Nikki S.

Thoughts From a Fellow Addict… Shanna M.
Holding onto the oars
floating down this river
with many dreams in mind,
just looking at the scenery going by.
My entire soul shinning once again
through recovery I have found my friend.
Through my recovery I have found myself again.
Slave
Whips cracking in my ears lash's stinging with your tears Blood running down my skin
not consciously thinking of my sins continuing my entrapment within my mind
becoming a slave one more time Clouding my visions, shooting my pain
wishing everything could change too afraid to walk away
just becoming more of a slave Bond and gagged with overwhelming shame My master creating weakness inside my brain
myself, too afraid to step up to the pain myself, making me a slave.
In the eyes off a recovering addict,
I see the truth they seek,
a desperation to be in remission
from a relentless disease.
The yearning to reveal the lies and pain
that they have caused, to right their wrongs.
Gaining courage to step up and say,
hello I am a person today,
and I no longer have to be afraid.
Together we can make this change,
and make our lives into something,
that is nothing short of a miracle in another's eyes,
who has lived the same.
