Marsh Harriers bred successfully once again, with at least two, possibly three nests on the reserve. Two lots of five young were ringed, seven males and three females. The Hawk and Owl Trust are trying to lo-cate as many Marsh Harrier nests along the River Wensum as part of a population and site fidelity record. If any one knows of the whereabouts of any nests, can they contact the reserve please. All records will be treated in the strictest confidence.

We thought that the barn owls had failed to breed, but the nest that had been predated was re-used, and three young - two females and one male, were ringed on August 16th. Tawny Owls bred in at least two of our purpose made boxes, and these young were joined by ‘orphaned’ tawnies ‘rescued’ by well mean-ing people. Please, if you find young tawny owls on the ground, leave well alone unless they are in imme-diate danger on a road or path in which case move them to a safe spot nearby. This is part of their natu-

ral behaviour and their parents will be close by to feed them.

Another bird which bred was the Golden Pheasant. A female was seen on a nest very close to the board-

walk, but we are not sure of the outcome. Spotted Flycatcher, Bullfinch, Reed Bunting and Little Grebe

were again all confirmed as breeding.
