Prayer of the Day: Heavenly Father, we thank you for al-
lowing us to be your instruments of grace and mercy. We’re humbled that you would choose us, sinners in a fallen world,
to be your disciples who go out into our community to share your Good News of salvation with others. Give us the strength
to follow wherever you may lead us. Help us to let go of the
things that get in the way of being the people you’ve called us to be. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
As We Gather to Grow in God’s Word Does God call on
us to only be members of a congregation or to be disciples? Far too often, Christians assume that their identity as people
of faith is something that they can switch on or off on a whim. They try to compartmentalize their lives, so that there
is a part for God, a part for work or family or friends, and a
part for just them. But God doesn’t call on us to be part-time Christians. He calls on us to be disciples who follows where
He leads, 24/7.
Bible Studies
FIRST READING: 1 Peter 2:9-12 9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of dark-ness into his wonderful light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. 11 Dear friends, I urge you, as foreigners and exiles, to abstain from sinful desires, which wage war against your soul. 12 Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us. GOSPEL READING: Luke 9:57-62 57 As they were walking along the road, a man said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.” 58 Jesus re-plied, “Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.” 59 He said to another man, “Follow me.” But he replied, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.” 60 Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God.” 61 Still another said, “I will follow you, Lord; but first let me go back and say goodbye to my family.” 62 Jesus replied, “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for ser-vice in the kingdom of God.”
