Scottsdale$economic$development$chief$selected$from$a$fieldof$100

Scottsdale officials have selected Maricopa’s assistant city manager from a fieldof more than 100 candidates to become the new economic development director.

The city announced its selection of Danielle Casey on Monday. She will beginJune 10.

Paul Katsenes, Scottsdale’s community and economic development executivedirector, hired Casey. She replaces Jim Mullin, who Scottsdale leaders asked tovacate the position in March.

Acting City Manager Dan Worth said Mullin “was not the right guy” for the job.

“Danielle is an energetic and creative professional who will be a very positiveaddition to our economic development team,” Katsenes said. “We are in a veryexciting time as the character of Scottsdale’s economy evolves, and Danielle willplay a very important leadership role as we move forward.”

Casey will direct a nine-member staff whose responsibilities include businessretention, expansion and attraction; supporting downtown Scottsdale as adestination attraction for visitors and residents; and administering contracts forthe Scottsdale Convention and Visitors Bureau and Scottsdale Cultural Council.

Worth said he met the finalists and provided input on the final selection. Anationwide search prompted “a very positive response” from potentialcandidates, he said.

“We’re excited to have some somebody to be able to integrate economicdevelopment with the rest of our staff, with what our development people aredoing and our public works people are doing,” Worth said. “That’s really the wayit should work, everyone together with a common goal.”

Casey’s annual salary will be $140,004. The salary range for the position,according to an online posting of the position, was $108,285 to $157,000 peryear.

Casey has been with Maricopa for the past eight years, including two years aseconomic development director and the last year as assistant city manager.
