The Dress Of
Scotland
Since spinning
wheels had not yetbeen invented,
women used
spindle whorls to
make wool material
for clothing.
Flax plants were
used to make
linen, and were
fairly common in
the Scottish
climate.
Sheep providedthe wool for
clothing.

Scottish women usually wore
dresses. Some wore bonnets or head
cloths, but most were bare headed.

The MenofScotland
Men of this time wore kilts (very
dignifying in my opinion). They
also wore tunics with belts. Most
men at this time covered theirheads with hats and hoods.

Shoes of Medieval Scotland
Shoes of medieval Scotland
look a lot like our modern day
slippers.
Made of leather, these shoes
were turned inside out after
stitching so the seams would
be inside (this was called the
turn shoe method).
Cold feet were very common.

Heart, was eventually killed by
Edward l (1303), his body was
divided and sent out to various
parts of the land, but his influence
led to victory in the end.
Mel Gibson is known for
the motion picture Brave

Scotland is well known for her churches
and the unique building style that changed
over time.
During the first half of the medieval times
churches were valued for what they stood
for and their roles, but as time progressed,
people focused on the architectural style.
The building style changed over time
during the medieval age, going from Anglo-
Scottish Romanesque to Late Gothic.

Scottish Farms
At this time in Scotland the economy
was dominated by agriculture.
Since the lowlands were best forfarming, most agricultural wealth came
pastorally.
Most food resources came from
sheep, fish, rye, barley, and even
bees wax and honey.
There was much agricultural tradebetween Ireland and Scandinavia.
Most Scottish farm buildings were made
from stone.Agricultural notes

The Axe Hammer
The use of stone axes is a common thing
for many cultures since way back when.
The Scots (being very practical) not only
used them as weapons, but for hunting and
tree felling. A hammer such as this would take days to
craft. The stone would have to be as close
together as possible, and the hole would
have to be drilled without modern day,
convenient power tools.

BRONZE AXE
This tin and copper alloy weapons
design could be cast from a mold of
sand or stone.
The head would be attached toeither a bone or wood handle using
sinews and pitch.
Bronze could be easily beaten into
different shapes, and when hardened
was fairly sturdy but wore out quickly.
