Brian Robertson and Elizabeth Irving
September 2012
Have your say
At the conference we had in September, we did a workshop about how we would like staff to support us better
A booklet called ‘Have your say’ was made with our answers in it
We are now putting the booklet into an easy read format
Have your say
I did staff training on Prader-Willi Syndrome
With help from Aileen and one of my staff, I explained how
people with Prader-Willi Syndrome usually behave and the
best ways of supporting them
Feedback from staff about the training was very positive
The training will now be delivered across TPS services

On 1st August we did a presentation to all TPS learning
disability service managers about the evaluation of the
Charter for Involvement
We asked them 3 questions:
o What would make the charter better?
o How can we get more people involved?
o What can we do to represent TPS better within the NIN?
Charter evaluation presentation
We got some ideas from the managers
We met with Craig (one of the senior managers) to
discuss the suggestions made
We now have a plan of how to take some of the ideas
forward

We wrote the 1st TPS easy read policy
and launched it at the conference in
September 2011
Other groups have written another 3
policies. They did presentations for
service users and staff to tell them
about the policies and encourage
them to start using them
Easy read policy presentation
We made a DVD of the
presentations so that we could
show them to people across
Scotland
We will show you a short clip of
it at the end of this presentation

A roadshow was taken across Scotland to give people
supported by TPS, their staff, and their families the
chance to say what they think has changed for people
with learning disabilities in the last 10 years, and what
they think will happen in the next 10 years
I went to the event in Prestwick and will also take part in a
small group interview
The ‘Same as You’ consultation
The ‘Same as You’ consultation
I went to the event in
Paisley and also gave a
one to one interview
A new membership scheme is being
launched for people supported by
TPS
TPS Connects membership will give
people more opportunities to speak
up about the things that matter to
them
The future
The ideas we got from the managers about
the Charter will be taken to TPS Connects
membership meetings
This means that the work the NIN has done
in developing the Charter will benefit people
in other TPS services like homeless, mental
health, criminal justice and addiction
services
TPS Connects membership
Thanks for listening!
We will now play a short clip of the DVD
showing a presentation about easy read
policies
