The tip of the
antler this month
goes to Michele
Moore, PER.
Michele made sure our visitation went
off without a hitch. She coached us
weekly, made sure the food was taken
care of, attended to all the little details
and then without blinking an eye,
organized all the last minute changes
that need to occur, including stepping
in as chaplain.
Michele also each year, co-chairs our
Elks Memorial Service and Charity
Dinner Auction, making sure all the
details, large or small, are attended to.
When she volunteers you know the
event will go off without a hitch!
Thank you Michele for all your hard
work. I truly appreciate your hard
work and dedication.

Exalted Ruler’s Message
The change of seasons is with us and
the cold, winter weather says winter is
on its way!
November brought the end of the
visitation season for the Northeast
District. Our visitation was on
November 14th. Unfortunately I had to back out of
performing the ER part at the absolute last minute due to my
sister's illness. I would like to thank PSVP Deb Kruk for
standing in as Exalted Ruler and PER Michele Moore as
Chaplain. Also to PER Tim MacFarlane for stepping in and
introducing our Past State President. I am proud to say the
Officers performed a great ritual, especially after all the last
minute changes that were made. Their hard work and
dedication certainly showed. I would also like to thank all the

Officers and Members who accompanied me to
all the visitations. Our attendance to each of
them was wonderful.
December will continue to be busy. The annual
Elks Memorial Service is held at every lodge in the
country on the first Sunday in December. This is
the time of year when the Elks remember their
members who are no longer with them. Our
lodge will be holding the service on December 1st
at 1:00 PM.
Our annual Charity Dinner Auction will be held on
Saturday December 7th at 5:00 PM. This auction
has been a tradition at our lodge for over 25
years. Please join us for an evening of fun. The
tickets can be purchased at the lodge.
This month also brings many other functions
including our youth hoop shoot, regional pantry
dinner, adopt a family gift tree, and gift
wrappings. Please check the calendar and articles
in the newsletter for details on these and other
events.
As the year comes to a close I'd like to wish
everyone a wonderful holiday season with family
and friends and a healthy and prosperous 2020.
Fraternally,
Maria Dickerson, PER
(ER’s Message, Continued from page 1)
This is one of the biggest events that we run in
the winter months. It is always a lot of fun. So get
your tickets now as we always expect to have a
sold out crowd.
So I am sure I missed a couple of things coming
up this month but let’s take a look at January. We
are working on a couple of new and fun events.
We have Trivia by Brad and we are going to add
a new game show or two on Friday Nights. Stay
tuned and get ready to mark your calendar.
I always remind everyone that this is your Lodge
and you should make a point to stop by and see
how much it has changed since the last time you
came in.
Fraternally,
Thomas R. Myslinski

Grants update: Reminder to all: Our Grants are provided by Elks
National Foundation and allows us to donate thou-
sands of dollars to our local community. Elks Na-
tional Foundation is supported by Elks all over the
country by lodge per capita amounts and member
donations. Grants require application with a plan
for membership to serve their communities. They
also require a detailed final report with receipts,
write ups and photos. Grants provide a means for
our Organization to be recognized as a community
leader and increase our visibility in the community.
Our grant projects must serve those in need, the
elderly, our youth or veterans. In order to receive
grants and be in compliance, the participation of
membership is also required. It is not hard work
and is very rewarding. Many hands make light
work. Consider participation in one of our grant
projects, especially if you have not previously par-
ticipated.
Duffel Bag Project
A huge THANK YOU to all of you who helped with
the duffel bag project in any way. Whether is was
your donation, your time or your support. We
were able to pack 30 duffels to donate to the
Schenectady County Social Services Foster Care
Unit. These bags will be used to provide children
going into foster care with a few essential items
they can call their own, including the duffel itself.
Many of them take a few belongings in a plastic
bag. This project gives them dignity and
ownership of something when the unthinkable has
to happen. Thank you for your generosity and
compassion. A special thank you to Laura Ziegler
for her insight and helping us to make a difference
by connecting our Lodge with the County Social
Service agency. Any leftover items will be donated
to our Adopt A Family, if needed, or other
community agency that provides items for
children.
City Mission Meal
Our next opportunity to serve a meal at The City
Mission is Saturday December 21 at 2:30. Please
go to our landing page to register for this event. It
(Continued on page 7)
https://www.elks.org/vets/
takes us about an hour and a half to serve about
150 people. We need at least 10 people to help
serve the meal. If you are unable to sign up, let
me (Deb Kruk) know and I will see that you are in-
cluded. Use the following link:
sgelks.citymissionofschenectady.volunteerhub.com
. If you are unable to help at the Mission, consider
donating a few dozen cookies as we bring these for
dessert. This is our Beacon Grant and a way to
serve and donate money to benefit our local
residents in need. If you have never been to the
Mission, take a trip over and see some of the great
things they do to assist people who are in need.
Christmas Toy Program at the City Mission
Included in our Gratitude Grant is $300 for toys to
donate to The Mission's Christmas Toy program. If
you would like to participate in the delivery or pur-
chase of the toys, let Deb Kruk know. This grant
item has been featured in the Elks National Maga-
zine in previous years.
Adopt A Family
Please see separate write up for this - This is also
part of our Gratitude Grant. Thank you Michele
Moore and Laura Zeigler for taking the lead. Please
support these two in this project.

Weekend Back Pack Program
Our lodge continues to deliver weekend back
packs to children in need at one of our local
schools. Each week 3 to 4 of us deliver them for 86
children - it takes about and hour and a half, 2
vehicles and 52 miles. If anyone would like to join
us, see Deb or Rich Kruk or Dan Moran. John Kruk
has also been helping but will soon be in sunny
Florida. While we don't have a grant for this any
longer, this is reportable on our lodge Charity
reports.
