School Planning

Our school is commencing work on the development of the 2018-2020 School Plan. The School Plan will articulate the directions LPS will take over the next three years. than Tuesday, 14th November 2017. The note can be found on the school’s website.

I will also be meeting with a student focus group and the LPS staff as part of the development of our School Plan.

Exciting News…Earn & Learn Success!

Thank you to the entire LPS school community for supporting this year’s Earn & Learn program. We had an

outstanding result, earning a grand total of just over 35,000 points. The points have gone towards expanding

our robotics resources in the school. We currently have Beebots which are utilised by our K-2 students and

we have been able to purchase six LEGO Education WeDO 2.0 sets which can be utilised by our 3-6 students.

Professional learning for staff in using the WeDO 2.0 resources will also be a focus over the next 6 months. A

huge thank you to Belinda Hopkins for your hard work in coordinating our 2017 Earn & Learn program.

Leadership Day

Our Year 5 students are participating in a leadership day today. Students will engage in activities in which

they will explore the qualities and traits of effective leaders and develop practical skills they can take away

as they prepare to be our leaders of tomorrow. The leadership day also prepares students with the

knowledge needed for the important job of nominating students for our 2018 student leadership team

(prefect speeches and voting will take place next Wednesday). Thank you to Ms Collins and Mrs Harris for

facilitating this valuable opportunity and instilling in all of our students the belief that they are all leaders.

Cut-off Date for 2017 Golden Medallions

Please be advised that the cut-off date for submitting five Principal’s Awards for a Golden Medallion is next

Friday, 17th November (Week 6).

Next Assembly

Our next assembly will be held this Friday, 10th November commencing at 12.15pm in the Hall. This assembly

will be led by class 3/4B. This is the final assembly for 2017 with the exception of our Annual Presentation

Day Assembly on Wednesday, 13th December.

Remembrance Day 2017

This Saturday, 11th November is Remembrance Day and our School Captains and Junior Choir have been

invited to represent Lugarno PS at a special Remembrance Day service at Club Rivers (at the memorial outside

Riverwood Legion and Community Club in Littleton Street, Riverwood). The service will commence at

10.30am.

Old Forest Road Lugarno NSW 2210

Phone 02 9153 9843 Email [email protected] www.lugarno.nsw.edu.au

A Remembrance Assembly for students and staff will be held at school on Monday, commencing at 10.40am

at the front of the Memorial Garden. Students are invited to bring a small posy of cut flowers to lay during

the assembly.

Wonderful Writers in 5/6E

Congratulations to students in 5/6E who have done a wonderful job exploring the complex themes and issues

raised in the novel, Parvana. Jonathan, Jayden, Tahlia and Emma wrote some outstanding responses which

demonstrated maturity and empathy with the central character. Well done!

Drum Donation

Thank you to local resident, David Clarke and his son, Jordan, a former LPS student, for their kind donation

of a drum kit to our school.

Year 7 entry to Selective High Schools in 2019: Intention to Apply

Government schools use a range of strategies to meet the educational needs of gifted and talented students.

One strategy is selective high school placement which provides intellectual stimulation and an educationally

enriched environment for gifted and talented students. Selective high schools cater for the specific needs of

high achieving gifted students who may otherwise be without sufficient classmates at their own academic

and social level. Selective schools help gifted and talent students to learn by grouping them with other gifted

and talented students, teaching them in specialised ways and providing educational materials at the

appropriate level.

For information about applying and the placement process go to https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-

schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-7. If you would like your child to apply for

Old Forest Road Lugarno NSW 2210

Phone 02 9153 9843 Email [email protected] www.lugarno.nsw.edu.au

selective high school placement for Year 7 2019, you may do so by applying online. Applications close on 13th

November 2017.

Offers for selective high school placement will be made on the basis of the Selective High School Test results

and school assessment. The Selective High School Test will be held on 15th March 2018.

In Week 1, an ‘Intention to Apply’ Form was sent home to all students in Year 5. It should be returned to the

school if you are intending to make an application to a selective high school. This form does not constitute

as an application but notifies our school of your intention to apply.

2018 Organisation

During the coming weeks, we will begin the planning process for 2018 including classes and organisation. To

enable us to make accurate plans, we kindly ask that you inform the school in writing as soon as possible if

your child/ren will not be returning to LPS in 2018. Thank you.

Major Changes to Train, Bus and Ferry Network

Please be advised that from 26 November 2017 there will be substantial changes to bus, train and ferry

timetables that may impact on your children’s journey to and from school.

With over 8,600 changes taking place Transport NSW advises you to check the timetable for possible

alterations to services which may also include faster trains, departure and arrival times, different stops or

platforms and, on some occasions, complete changes of train lines.

17th October 2017

Dear Sir/Madam

Re: Lugarno Public School Community Fair - Sponsorship

As part of our fundraising in 2018, Lugarno Public School will be hosting a Community Fair on Sunday 4th

March 2018. This event will help raise funds for a variety of equipment and resources for our students and

school.

The 2018 Lugarno Public School Community Fair & Open Day will be held in our school grounds operating

from 10am until 4pm. We will have live entertainment, school tours, stalls, amusement rides, raffles, and

much more to make our event a wonderful family day out for Lugarno and its surrounding communities. In

addition a percentage of the funds raised from our event will be donated to our chosen charity.

To ensure the success of our event, we would like to invite you to take part in our Community Fair as a sponsor. While direct funding is our preferred means of contribution, we would also welcome offers of products that can be used or sold on the day (food for our BBQ’s, drinks, printing, voucher for raffle prizes etc.). Sponsors will be given exclusivity in their market sector by sponsorship level (Platinum and Gold only) as well as positive exposure and the goodwill of the community. We would also endeavor to utilise your business wherever possible for other P&C activities moving forward. If you are interested in taking part in our Community Fair, please contact the people outlined below to

discuss further. Our sponsorship options are attached for your consideration.

Yours faithfully
