“Educating and caring for the whole child”

What a wonderful fortnight we have had at Guise Public

School celebrating the fantastic achievements of

students in various school areas.

Presentation Days Our annual Presentation Day and Sports and Arts

Presentation Day assemblies were held on Tuesday and

Friday last week. These days are to celebrate and

acknowledge outstanding achievements of individual

children who have worked extremely hard this year in

their classrooms and in various other areas of school

life. Thank you to the parents/carers and community

members who were able to join us in celebrating and

recognising students at these events.

Afterwards, a special morning tea was held to

recognise and thank the many parent/carer volunteers

who have assisted the school in various ways

throughout the year. We really appreciate your ongoing

support and contribution at school.

Year 6 Farewell It was a memorable and very special night for our Year 6

students at their Farewell on Thursday last week at Wests

Leagues Club. Today we say good luck and goodbye to these

students. This time of the year is one of mixed emotions

for Year 6 students, parents and staff. Hopefully students

will look back fondly on the memories they have made of

their primary school years at Guise Public School and look

forward to the next exciting chapter in their lives of high

school. We wish all Year 6 students the best of luck for

next year and beyond.

End of Year Concert An End of Year Concert was held yesterday and what a

great morning of excellent performances were

showcased from all of our classes. Both staff and

students were excited to show off their talents to the

huge number of parents and families that joined us to

celebrate what has been an outstanding year at Guise

Public School. We definitely have many children and staff

who have a talent for the performing arts at our school.

YCDI Keys Recently we had some You Can Do It Keys sculptures

installed in our new grass and garden area near our school

hall. These monuments not only remind our students of

the Five Keys to Success, but also add some extra colour

and fun to our playground.

School Canteen in 2019 In 2019, the Guise Public School Canteen will reduce its

operating hours, as per the note sent out earlier this

term to all families. The Canteen will operate on

Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

On Mondays and Fridays, when the canteen is NOT open,

parents/carers will need to ensure children have a packed

lunch and recess. There will be no orders or over the

counter purchases available on these days.

Uniforms As the end of year approaches and with the expectation

that all students come each day in full school uniform, I

ask all parents/carers to take stock and check that they

have enough items to start the new 2019 school year.

Uniforms are available for purchase from the school

office upon request. Payment can be made by cash,

EFTPOS or online payment on our school website.

There will also be 2 days in the school holidays that

parents may come into the school office to purchase

uniforms. These dates are as listed below:

Wednesday 23rd January 2019

Thursday 24th January 2019

Uniforms will be available for purchase from 12:00pm –

2:00pm on each of these days.

Mr Neilson We were excited to hear the news last week that Mr

Neilson was successful in gaining a principal position at

Picton PS and will start there next year. He has been an

instrumental member of our staff and has contributed

significantly as Deputy Principal at Guise PS over the last

three years. We wish him every success as he embarks in

his new role.

A letter from Mr Neilson to our school community is

included in this newsletter.

As this is the last newsletter for the 2018 school year, I

would like to take this opportunity to wish all children and

their families a safe, relaxing and wonderful Christmas

and holiday break. We look forward to welcoming students

back for the 2019 school year on Wednesday 30 January.

Have a wonderful week and lovely holiday!!

Farewell from Mr Neilson

It is with mixed emotions that I farewell the Guise Public School community. I have been the Deputy Principal

since 2015 and it is hard to believe my time has come to an end. Words cannot sum up how proud I am to have

held this position and the work we have done together to make Guise Public School the absolutely outstanding

school it is. My time at Guise has been the most rewarding experience of my life. I am so proud of the

achievements we, as a whole school community, have made together to improve the educational lives of the

students.

To our parent and carer community, thank you so much for your continued support of both myself and the

school. It has been wonderful getting to know you all and I will truly miss the partnerships we have formed.

To the incredibly talented, hard-working and dedicated staff at Guise, you have all become more than

colleagues, you have become friends. I can honestly say I have never had the pleasure of working with a school

staff that is as committed as the staff at Guise. Each and every day they go above and beyond to ensure every

single student in this school is known, valued, cared for and achieves their personal best. I will miss the work

we do daily together, overcoming challenges and being there in support of one another. Thank you for all you

do and I look forward to remaining connected for years to come.

Lastly and most importantly, to the students of Guise Public School. You are the reason that we are here. No

teacher in this school has to be here, they are here because they want to be at this school and that is because

of you. In schools, it’s usually the teachers who teach, and the students who learn. I would argue that at Guise

Public School, the teachers learn as much, if not more, from the students. At Guise we have students who are

kind, caring, quirky, articulate, motivated, supportive of one another and committed to improving. Thank you

to the students for making Guise Public School such an amazing place to be.

Although I move on to the next stage in my career with some sadness, I am looking forward positively to the

experiences that await. Thank you once again for a fantastic three-year journey. I wish all families a happy

and safe holiday and all the best for 2019 and beyond.

Mr Nathan Neilson

Deputy Principal
