‘Beep-Beep’ Look out for me!

Reception classes enjoyed their 'Beep-Beep' day where they learnt about road safety. They brought their bikes and scooters into school and practised how to cross the road safely. They asked for dona-tions to go to the charity ‘Brake’ who tell children about keeping safe on the road and raised £40. They also made traffic light biscuits.

Toys Old and

Practical advice to keep your children safe online

Why is internet safety important?

Barely a day goes by when we don’t hear about a child being harmed through their use of the internet. But, the risks posed to children can be greatly reduced if parents, carers and children are equipped with information and knowledge about the dangers and how to tackle them. Many parents may feel out of their depth when it comes to the internet or they may look to technical safeguards such as filters and blocking software to help protect their children. But these solutions can only ever deal with part of the problem and parents, whatever their technical ability, need to make time to understand the risks and get practical non-technical advice on steps they can take to keep their children safe.

Who we are

The Lucy Faithfull Foundation is a child protection charity which manages the Stop it Now! UK and Ireland campaign. We are passionate about working to protect children. One of our aims is to encourage safer online activity by delivering internet safety presentations to parents, carers and children.

What will the seminar cover?

The presentation will highlight your children’s vulnerabilities when using the internet. Don’t worry – this is not a technical seminar, instead we provide practical advice and offer solutions that parents can implement in the home immediately. It will cover areas such as grooming and cyberbullying. We will discuss: The benefits of using the internet Raise awareness about inappropriate (sexual)

content and contacts that children might come across online and ways it might happen

Provide advice and strategies about keeping children safe online, with details of where to go for further information, advice and support.

raise awareness about cyberbullying ;- how to prevent and respond to it.

Presentations have been well-received with 99% of parents stating they felt more confident about keeping their children safe online as a result of attending.

“I have become more knowledgeable about chat rooms and social networking sites and will educate my children before they start accessing these sites.” “A brilliant evening, very

well organised with a lot of thought and effort put into it.”

“The cyberbullying DVD was extremely powerful and useful.”

“This has really opened my eyes.”

Did you know……..

Around a third of children have received an unwanted or ‘nasty’ message via the internet and a quarter have received an unwanted or ‘nasty’ image of a sexual nature?*

Around one in five 10-11 year olds and 12-17 year olds have been cyberbullied in the last year?*

You do not need to have technical knowledge of computers to protect your children online
