The weather is looking good and the children are prepared for the events. My thanks in advance to everyone who has come along to support today and for your understanding over the changes of dates. My feet haven't touched the ground this week and I think I've managed to clock up at least 50 working hours in 4 days alone and there's still today and Saturday to go! Again our sporting teams have been busy out and about over the last week. Our swimmers were in a gala last weekend and came third overall which is a great achievement. Our Y3/4 District sports team came 3rd overall too and our Y5/6 team did incredibly well considering we didn't have any Y6 participants as they were away on residential. This bodes really well for next year. Also our cricketers have been out this week, enjoying some great cricket in the good weather. Please see overleaf for the sporting reports and photos. Our Year 6 teachers and senior leaders undertook moderation of standards this week. This is a process where exam moderators visit the school and randomly select pupils’ names from the year group list and their work is scrutinised to ensure that the teachers are making correct judgements on pupils’ attainment. I am thrilled to say that this was a very positive experience and the school had a completely clean sheet! The moderators were looking specifically at children's writing. The comments included the facts that 'teachers have planned plentiful opportunities for a range of independent writing, teachers have been well supported by the school's Senior Leadership team to ensure that they had sufficient time and expertise to accurately assess writing. There were plentiful supplies of accurately assessed independent writing which ensured the moderators were able to easily confirm judgements.' Well done to all of the teaching team in school who work together to ensure children get the best opportunities and outcomes! It is the Summer Fayre tomorrow and the weather looks like it will be a scorcher. I look forward to seeing you there; make sure you bring some sun cream and hats and hopefully we will all have a great time. The PTA and class reps have been working relentlessly getting this huge event organised so I am sure it will be well supported by the school community. The funds raised will make a huge difference to what we are able to provide for our children. A couple of gripes now I’m afraid; this week we organised the cleaning of the lunch box trollies which were in a disgusting, unhygienic state. This is due to the number of lunch boxes which get left in school on a daily basis with rotting food, etc. There were over 30 unnamed lunch boxes. We clear the trollies on a regular basis but as you would expect, the warmer weather does not keep leftover food fresh for very long. We will be clearing the trollies on a Friday evening and any leftover boxes will be put in the bins. Please help us by reminding your child to throw away leftover food and rubbish (there are plenty of food waste and recycling bins in the dining hall). Please also label your child’s lunch box (a reusable lunch box is so much better for the environment than a disposable carrier bag) and remind them every day to check whether they have brought their lunch box home. Another issue which I have been asked to write to you about is driving, parking and associated behaviour. Church staff have been particularly offended by the abusive behaviour demonstrated by some (a few) parents of the school. The church community are very important to us and as such we are able to share parking facilities as good neighbours. Please set a good example to our children by being considerate, upstanding citizens. This comment is also for those of you who persistently park your cars on the pavement/grassed areas outside the school. We all have a duty of care to look after the children. The message about careful driving and parking is also extended to parents of Treetops children. We allow the use of the staff car park for pick up so that it is easier for you, however staff have reported that their cars have been damaged during the later pick up times, so please try to be careful opening doors etc. 28 June 2019 Pyrford Church of England Primary School

Please could we remind you that children must be

supervised before and after school and please not

to touch anything belonging to Reception.

A reminder that the class photos will be taken on Monday, so please

make sure your child is looking super-smart in the correct uniform!

Thank you.

Harry Potter!

On the 17th of June year 5 went on a school trip to

Harry Potter World near London. We had a

stunning view of all the sets and we even got to go

on one of the broomsticks.

One of my favourite parts of the trip was in

Gringotts; there was a dragon stomping towards

us and when it got to a certain point it would start

breathing fire and the whole place would smoke

up.

Our day at Harry Potter Studios, London!

On Monday the 17th of June both of the year five classes went to Harry Potter Studio in London!!

This was by far the best school trip I have ever been on, it was really nice going with all of my friends and teachers.

It was very exciting entering the tour; the first room we went into was the lobby and then we entered the tour, the

second was the cupboard under the stairs. Then we had to wait for a bit because there were too many of us to get

in on the same tour. After about a 10 minute wait we waited some more and then went into the real tour, then we

heard some instructions and they told us a bit about Warner Brothers Studios. Then we went into the next room, it

was a cinema room.

After looking at many of the really exciting things on display, and having our photos taken riding broomsticks, we

made our way into Diagon Alley, the floor was like an optical illusion. It looked like it was wet, then we went to our

last room where there was a GIANT model of Hogwarts castle, it was soooo amazing.

Then in front of us was the wonderful shop. I managed to get three things two things for my mum and a lolly for

me!

In total it took us 4 hours to complete the whole tour!! By Millie

Year 1 Solve CSI Mystery!

Last week, in drizzly weather, the super sleuths from Year 1 solved the

mystery of which naughty animal had stolen the food from the Oryx. We had to

look carefully at all the clues and use our super science skills and knowledge to see

which animal was the culprit. It was a fabulous way of consolidating the learning

that we have been enjoying in school.

We had a great day and were extremely well behaved. We would like to say a HUGE

thank you to all the adults who helped us on our trip.

On Tuesday our choir enjoyed some singing games and a picnic

in Woking Park. They joined 175 children from 6 other local

schools. Each school performed a song they had prepared and

they all sang together a song they learned on the day. A lovely

end to a good year for our choir. Well done to everyone who

has taken part. Choir will resume in September.

WASPS SWIMMING GALA – PYRFORD WIN BRONZE!!!

The WASPS swimming gala took place on Saturday 22nd June. There were ten

schools taking part this year and some fearsome competition!

The Squad consisted of Jessica Zone, Lilly Staton, Stephanie Curtis, Oliver Johnson,

Srinath Nair, Benjamin Broadhead, Sarah Devapragasam, Hannah Giddings, Eleanor

Alderman, Mia Darling, Sam Mullally, Joshua Johnson, Leo Snelgrove, Sam Platts,

Dylan James, Eleanor James and Jack Hannon.

We started well but with such strong competition Pyrford were joint 7th at the

halfway point! We then had some wonderful individual swims and then it was time

for the relays. The team had

worked hard on their

handovers and ensuring that

there were no

disqualifications. In the

freestyle relay Pyrford came

first, then in the float relay

second and finally second

place in the boy’s medley.

The team were a credit to the

school with their dedication

and team spirit!

DISTRICT SPORTS UPDATE

I am pleased to report that Years 3 & 4 came 3rd

overall in district sports out of 25 schools. Year 5

(year 6 were on residential) came 15th in the year

5/6 event out of 25 schools.

There were outstanding performances from all the athletes who

represented the school and we had one overall individual medal winner -

Amelia Theodorou won overall bronze in the girls’ 400 metres. Well done

everyone! Mrs Cockle
