Indonesia Study Tour and School Partnerships Programme 28 Sept- 10 0ct Miss Staffiero and Mrs Williams were fortunate to join educators from around Australia in the school holidays to participate in an in country study tour of Indonesia. The cultural programme provided numerous opportunities to build our understanding of Indonesia through a range of experiences that explored traditional and contemporary Indonesian culture. We particularly enjoyed spending time in a farming village, visiting an Art museum, playing the angklung, an Indonesian instrument and learning some conversational Indonesian language. As part of the school partnership component, we were blessed to be partnered with a Dominican school, Santa Maria School which is situated in Bandung, West Java. Our teaching experiences at the school were truly incredible and the Principal, staff and students at Santa Maria School warmly welcomed us into their community and enab led us to learn more about educat ion in Indonesia. We now look forward to the journey ahead of working with the staff and students of Santa Maria School to build strong and sustainable partnerships which will enable our students to increase their knowledge and understanding of Indonesia, form friendships with students living in Asia and provide our students with rich learning experiences to heighten their intercultural understandings.
This year as a school we are focusing on the Asia and Australia’s engagement with Asia priority. It provides a context for learning in all areas of the curriculum and reflects Australia’s extensive engagement with Asia in social, cultural, political, and economic spheres. An understanding of Asia underpins the capacity of Australian students to be active and informed citizens working together to build harmonious local, regional and global communities, and build Australia’s social, intellectual and creative capital. It also builds understanding of the diversity of cultures and peoples living in Australia, fosters social inclusion and cohesion and is vital to the prosperity of Australia. Lead by Miss Dina Staffiero and Mrs Sharon Williams engaging with this priority has included staff undertaking professional learning, developing learning opportunities for students to engage with Asia and integrating aspects of Intercultural Understanding.
Dear Parents and Caregivers, I hope you were blessed with a great holiday. It was so exciting to
see everyone return. It seems that most of our early years students
lost a tooth, went to the circus or movies. Our older students
talked about movies, sleepovers and big sleep ins. I enjoyed a very
relaxing holiday with family and am looking forward to all that is
in store for this term.
Staffing Term 4 - This term we welcome Ms Boccaccio in Year 3
who will be taking Ms Milic’s class while she is away on long
service leave. We welcome back Maestro Dina for a couple of
weeks and wish her well as she returns to Our Lady of Hope as
Acting Deputy for 4 weeks. We welcome back Ms Rosa Angelino
who will be one of our Key Literacy Teachers for this term. We
also welcome back Mrs Kath Moody as EAL Teacher after her
term of leave.
Staff Professional Learning—Technologies and Health. On
Monday our staff undertook some professional learning on the
new Technologies and Health curriculums. Some classes are al-
ready using elements of these curriculums and teachers explored
more ways of enhancing student learning in these areas.
After many repeated requests through the school newsletter and
invoices we will be starting to speak personally to families who
have not completed payment of Fees and OSHC Accounts. This
will not include families on direct debits. I ask that you please
ensure accounts are finalised for the year as soon as possible or if
you have any questions or worries you come and chat to Damian
Emery or myself.
Moving to email , text messaging and the school app- We will be
no longer printing the school newsletter and over the coming
weeks will be increasing our use of the school app, emails and text
messaging. We ask that you provide the office with a current
email address and ensure your contact details are current.
Catholic Missions - On Monday
20th October, we will be cele-
brating World Mission Month
with a ‘come dressed as what you
want to be when you grow up’.
This is a way of us connecting to
the theme of Catholic Missions for this year - All I want to be is
alive. The theme challenges us to remember and try to address the
reality that throughout our work many children do not have the
hopes, resources and opportunities that we are blessed to have in
Australia. Students are asked to bring in a gold coin donation.
Catholic Mission is the international mission aid agency of the
Catholic Church in Australia. Locally and globally: they
answer the call to love God and to love our neighbour.
They work to establish the Reign of God.
They build communities of missionary disciples of Jesus
who share their faith by proclaiming the Word, serving people in
need, and acting for justice and creation.
More information can be found at the Catholic Missions Website.

vited to come and have a chat with him in the community room.
