Digital Learning Across the school, students have continued to learn with and about new technologies and how they

support learning.

Activities such as digital artworks, photography, writing computer code using LOGO, have been done

with older students sharing learning with younger ones. This has enabled a consolidation of learning

for older students as they take on the role of ‘tutor’, and enabled some new ‘adventures’ in learning for

the younger ones.

Here are some samples of the learning which has been completed so far.

Dear Parents and Caregivers, This term is flying by…. So much

still to come and so many great moments to celebrate...

Diwali Celebrations - Thankyou

to Indian Temptations Restaurant

and all those who helped out last

Thursday in celebrating Diwali.

Students engaged in learning,

praying and celebrating this festi-

val and our own Catholic Faith

Story of light.

Returning in 2015 and class requests—We have

begun as a staff and School Board to look at the

structures and staffing for next year. A

number of important factors contribute to

these decisions. The learning of students always remains at the

core. A further request is extended to those families who are leav-

ing St Gabriel’s School at the end of this year to ensure they have

advised us, so we can plan accurately.

Coming home with students is a page inviting you to make any

recommendations and requests about the placement of your

children. This opportunity is an important one if you wish to put

forward information that will benefit the placement of your child

for next year.

In the next couple of weeks class teachers will be beginning class

groupings for next year. So I invite you to talk to your children

about who the people who help them learn. One of the processes

that will be undertaken is inviting students to name those people

they would like to be in class with and that help them learn the

best.

Official School Hats are now

required for all outside play and

activities. In line with our Sun

Smart Policy, students should be

arriving at school with sunblock on.

All classes have the standard Cancer

Council sun block for students to

use, which is reapplied prior to lunch time play. If your child

suffers any allergies to this brand we ask that you provide your

child with another brand of sun block.

Saturday is the Feast of All Saints. This feast

is an important celebration in the life of our

Catholic Tradition. On this feast we celebrate

all those men and women who have been holy

in their lives and all those who are to come. In

a way the feast is a celebration of us and a

reminder that we are called to be people of

love, compassion and service like the many

saints we honour and remember.

God of Holiness and Love.

We pray in thanksgiving for the lives and service of all Holy Men

and Women of every time and place. May their prayers bring us

peace and love. Inspire us to follow in their examples of their love.

Reconciliat ion Message St ick —Next

Wednesday 5th November, an Indigenous

Message stick will be visiting our school as it

travels around the schools of the Enfield and

Port Adelaide Council area. This activity

is a way for our local council to continue to raise

the awareness and importance of Indige-

nous Reconciliation. During the afternoon of

the visit classes will be participating in activi-

ties and prayer centred on the message of reconciliation and peace.

We continue to pray for and

learning about the work of

Catholic Mission. More infor-

mation can be found on their

website—http://

www.catholicmission.org.au/

Look forward to seeing you at our Cultural Community Night

next Friday (7th November). Thank you to all those families who

have so generously continued to be able to make our Community

Night such a great celebration.

Looking forward to next week

From Stuart

CRIBS MASS Over the coming weeks your child’s class will be involved in mak-

ing Christmas cribs to take home to prepare for and celebrate the

feast of Christmas.

This year St Gabriel’s have been invited to gather with our families

and other families from around the Archdiocese in the Cathedral

dents will be making sock puppets and creating

We ask that you send in a sock with your child so

they are able to make their puppet. If you have more

extra odds socks that you wish to donate they will be

greatly appreciated.

Information and Communication Technologies

supports and enhances student learning across all

areas of the curriculum. Students develop and apply

ICT knowledge, skills and values through use of

iPad, computer, photography, audio and visual

mediums.

During their learning students:

Apply appropriate social and ethical protocols

and practices (learning about the impact of ICT,

developing safe practices and cyber safety

knowledge)

Investigate (developing the skills to search using

the internet, gather knowledge from different digital

sources and evaluate credibility of in-

formation)

Create (planning and designing digital tasks, se-

lecting and using various programs and apps and

then evaluating completed tasks.)

Communicate (presenting and sharing information

and products to particular audiences, having con-

nections with students across the school and world

using ICT tools)

Manage and operate ICT (select and use ICT

hardware in a safe manner, develop an

understanding of ICT resources)

There is an imperative to use ICT to teach

young people to “learn how to function

well in the world of cyberspace, make

discerning judgements according to sound

moral criteria about what they find there,

and use the new technology for their

integral development and the benefit of

others” (The Church and the Internet, 2002).
