Well done to all our students and their exhibits for the Flower Show. There sure is a lot of talent here

at Norsewood & Districts’ School. I am always impressed with the exhibits. Certificates were handed

out at Merit Assembly. Thank you to Heather Cheer and the team that organise the Flower Show it is

Thank you to Charlie Menzies for judging the Science Project Fair. The feedback is great and will

support our students to progress further. Well done to all our students who participated in a Science

Project, you should be proud.

Remember it is School Athletics tomorrow starting at 9:00 a.m. students are to arrive at school in their

athletics gear. Students to wear house colours. Thank you to those who have already offered their

support, if you are still able to support and have forgot to let us know, please let Maxine in the office

know, I am sure there is still plenty to do. It is forecasted to be slightly cloudy with 10% precipitation.

Although there may be cloud, our students will still need their hats, plenty of water and to wear

sunscreen. Thank you for your support. If for any reason we have to cancel Athletics Day tomorrow,

postponement is on Monday 11 November, same time.

I want to take this time to say that I have resigned as Principal of Norsewood & Districts’ School. It

has been a sorrowing time in making this decision. I have enjoyed my time immensely and I have an

abundance of special memories to take with me. The team at Norsewood & Districts’ School are amazing

and I couldn’t ask to be part of a better team. The students here are incredible and have taught me

more than they could ever know. My heart will always be with the students and I am excited to here of

their continued great learning adventures.

There are so many in the community who have welcome me and supported me thoroughly. I cannot thank

them enough for the past 3 years. The past and current BoT have empowered me and guided me, thank

you. The school is well placed and I know that the BoT are proactive in finding a Principal who will live

and breathe the school vision ‘On a Great Learning Adventure and our School Values Give it a Go,

Respect, Empowered, Attitude and Thinking. I do not leave the position until the end of January next

year. I will be fully committed in the Principal role until then. Thank you and remember ko koe i runga i

te mōrearea akoranga nui. (you are on a great learning adventure)

Treasure the time you have with friends and family over the weekend. If you are attending a fireworks

display stay safe.

From the BoT Wednesday the 5th board members attended and excellent training session put on by the School Trustees

Association. The main topic was 'inclusiveness' however there were also valuable insights on planning and

relationship building. This will be helpful for the BoT as we plan for 2020 over the remainder of the year.

Odyssey Cave

Ma te Atua koutou e manaaki.

The children showed their creative flair during Pet and Craft Day last week. The classroom

smelt like a florist shop and the seaside all mixed together! The children especially enjoyed

designing their shoebox gardens, vaseline mosaic saucers and decorating biscuits. It was lovely

to see the children sharing their flowers and lending a hand where needed. What a fabulous day

it was. Roll on next year!

Our science investigation was based on our question, “Can children with longer legs jump further

than children with shorter legs?” We thought they could because their legs are longer so they

can jump a further distance. I wonder what you think?

On Monday, Sarena and her Firewise Team came to educate the children about fire safety and

the importance of fire alarms and safe meeting places. We were all shocked to see and hear

how quickly fires can take hold. We practised “get down, get low, get out - fast” and had some

fun trying on the firefighter’s safety gear. We were also challenged, by getting out of a dark

maze quickly. The final hose down was lots of fun after a very hot day!

We are gearing up for Athletics on Friday and our Merit Assembly in two weeks time. The

children have some special items planned already.

Hope you can come.

Ka kite, Jose

Another full on fortnight at Norsewood and Districts’ School

We were very fortunate to have Serena and Amy at school on

Monday teaching the children about Firewise. Serena told the

children about the need to check multi-boards regularly. If they

are hot on the back dispose of them and get a new one. These

multi boards have been the cause of house fires. If you do not

have smoke alarms in your house Amy Domper’s contact details

are at the school office and she is happy to help you install these

very important safety devices. The tamariki loved climbing

through the tunnel, squirting the big fire hose and examining the

fire engine.

The other highlight of this last fortnight was the Craft and Pet Day. The children

carefully prepared their exhibits. The pet rocks were carefully created over several

days and the children were proud of the end result. Thank you to the judges and

helpers who gave up their time to make the day a success. Thank you especially to

Michelle whose help, made preparing the exhibits enjoyable. The visit down to see the

Norsewood Flower Show to see their exhibits was an additional bonus.

We now have sunblock in the class and this is applied at morning tea and lunch time. Thank you for

everyone who has provided a school sunhat for their child. If these are left in the children’s lockers

they are always there.

Reports have been sent out if you have any queries please don’t hesitate to ask.
