What to do before Scholarships

O Take the ACT and/or SAT – no later than October of your senior year

O Apply to college – the fall of your senior year

O Check college application deadlines – some are as early as October 15

O If you qualify for ACT fee waivers, you qualify for college application fee waivers (up to 4)

O Make sure your community service hours are documented

O Senior essay (personal statement) – instructions are on the school share drive in a “Class of 2014” folder – the instructions are also posted outside Ms. Moss’ office

O Resume – any format can be used as long as it is written for scholarships, not a job O EducationO Work ExperienceO Awards or AchievementsO School ActivitiesO Community Service

O English, math, or science teacher: addresses ability in the classroom and the potential for success in college

O Specialty area (coach, club sponsor, or elective teacher): addresses contribution to the specific area and about the student’s character

O A fourth letter is good to have in case you need it and it needs to be from a second teacher
