  • Introduction:Scholarships are awarded on the basis of various criteria established by donors and policies of the Scholarship Program to current Santa Ana College students. Please refer to the specific description for each scholarship. Scholarships are available to graduating sophomores transferring as a junior to a four-year college or university and to Santa Ana College students who are continuing their education in academic programs here. Individual donors, national associations, local clubs, societies, and businesses provide scholarship assistance. All awards are based on the receipt of funding from donors. Additional scholarships may become available after the publication of this book. Those scholarships will also be awarded.

    Scholarship monies are usually awarded in two increments, half in the fall semester, and half in the spring semester. Scholarship recipients will receive a detailed instruction letter by July 1. To receive scholarship awards recipients must show proof of their enrollment status, verification of units and grade point average requirements where applicable. A thank you note to the donor is also required. Students returning to SAC must bring picture identification to pick up your scholarship. Students are responsible for contacting the Scholarship Program office and submitting registration information. Transfer student upon receipt of registration information and a thank you note to the donor, the awarding process will begin. Scholarship awards may be fulfilled by checks, books, and /or fee payments, as determined by institutional policy.

    General Requirements:Applicants must be registered for classes at Santa Ana College in college credit classes. You must be enrolled in a minimum of six (6) units for the fall 2011 at Santa Ana College and six (6) units in the spring 2012 semester and have a total of twelve (12) completed college units by the end of the fall 2011 semester. For the purposes of this application process, all academic information must show on your Santa Ana College transcript by February 16, 2012. Students enrolled in the Nursing Program are considered full time students. To be considered for scholarships awarded to full time students, the students must show college enrollment at Santa Ana College in twelve (12) units in the fall 2011 and twelve (12) units in the spring 2012 semester. A three (3) unit exception may be made if a class is not offered at SAC.

    As each scholarship has its own criteria in addition to the General Requirements, read carefully through this book to determine if your qualifications match those listed. You may apply for any scholarships for which you meet the criteria. If you have questions regarding your qualifications, please ask a representative in the Scholarship Program office, room S-201. If you have any questions regarding any part of this competition, contact the Scholarship Program. Students who need assistance in how to represent problem enrollment, missing financial information or questionable transfer status, along with any other issue may find it advantageous to contact Scholarships for advice.

    Fill out the entire application. List all scholarships for which you meet the criteria on the “Applications Cover Page”. It is the applicant’s responsibility to have all items submitted together in one package to the scholarship office on or before the deadline. Please submit an original signed application and two copies of your original application. This is a total of three applications. Students who fail to turn in the required number of copies may not be eligible for full consideration. It is the applicant’s responsibility to have all items to the scholarship office on or before the deadline.

    Deadline:Return completed application packets to the Scholarship Program office at Santa Ana College by February 16, 2012. The office is located on the second floor in the Administration building, room S-201.

    Letters of Recommendation:One letter of recommendation is required with your application. Recommendations are requested to be from Santa Ana College faculty, which include teaching faculty, librarians, coaches, and counselors. Students must turn in a minimum of one letter of recommendation with the application.

  • Transcript:An unofficial copy of your SAC Transcript is required. It must show your cumulative grade point average including the fall 2011 as well as your spring 2012 enrollment in classes. The transcript information should be printed after the beginning of the spring 2012 semester, January 23, 2012. Please note that your transcript should be legible. Check printing setting to ensure a readable transcript. Most transcripts should be one to two pages; if your transcript is beyond four pages, you may need to changes the settings on your printer.

    Scholarship Interviews:Time is limited to contact student candidates regarding appointments for scholarship interviews. Students applying for scholarships that list “interview” as the selection process should keep in touch with the Scholarship Program beginning March 15. Lists of students invited to interview for scholarships will be posted in the Scholarship Program (S-201).

    Important:Keep this book. The overall guidelines and rules of competition are listed here for your reference. You may need to refer to them after the February 16, 2012 deadline. Be sure to sign your application package. The Scholarship Program is unable to share application information if your application package is unsigned.

    Preparation:The Scholarship Program offers information on application preparation, presentation, essay style, and recommendation letters. Appointments are available to review student applications and autobiographical statements. Contact the Scholarship Program at [email protected] to schedule an appointment. These services are not available on February 16, 2012.

    Awards Ceremony:Recipients will be invited to attend the Scholarship & Awards Ceremony, held May 7, 2012. As a condition of receiving a scholarship, named recipients are required to attend the Ceremony. Invited students who are unable to attend the Ceremony may contact the Scholarship Program if this condition cannot be met. We wish to apologize, that due to time limitations, the official notification “List of Recipients” will be posted in the Scholarship office (S-201). We thank you for your understanding.

    Requirements: This section refers to the criteria you must satisfy in order to qualify for this scholarship. For this particular scholarship you may be majoring in any subject, you must be a student of Asian ancestry and enrolled in 12 units for each semester. As a full time student with 12 units, 9 units of the 12 each semester, must be at SAC.

    * GRACE ALBERTS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP The name of the scholarship may refer to the donor, the

    category, etc. This particular scholarship was established as a memorial tribute to Grace Alberts.

    * GPA: 3.5 GPA (Grade Point Average): This is the cumulative grade

    point average you must have in order to apply. This scholar-ship requires that your GPA is at least 3.5.

    * INCOME: Financial information required Income: This informs you whether or not you are required

    to provide proof of financial need (either your or parent’s/guardian’s 1040 Federal Income Tax form). For this scholar-ship, your financial information IS required.

    * STATUS: Transferring sophomore with full-time junior status to a four-year college or university

    Status: Refers to YOUR status as a student in the fall 2012.

    If you are going to complete your education at Santa Ana College in the spring 2012 and continue to a four-year college or university in the fall 2012, you are a “transferring student”. Otherwise, you are a “continuing student”.

  • Outside Organization Scholarships

    JACK KENT COOKE FOUNDATION: www.jackkentcookefoundation.orgThe Undergraduate Transfer Jack Kent Cooke Scholars are currently attending or have recently completed course work at two-year institutions. The awards will provide scholarships for 50 students to transfer to four-year colleges and universities to complete their bachelors’ degree. Award amounts are available up to $30,000. Santa Ana College will select two candidates for competition. Applications are obtained on-line and should be submitted to the Scholarship Program, in room S-201, by the campus deadline date of January 6, 2010.

    HISPANIC SCHOLARSHIP FUND: www.hsf.netVarious scholarships up to $5,000 are offered to students of Latin decent who are continuing at SAC and to those students transferring to a four-year university. There are different deadline dates for each scholarship. Please go on-line for the details of each award. Students submit their applications directly to the Hispanic Scholarship Fund.

    Hispanic Education Endowment Fund –HEEF of the Orange County Community Foundation: www.oc-cf.org.HEEF strives to respond to the educational needs of Hispanic youth, thereby improving opportunities for all Hispanic students. This scholarship is a Community College Transfer Scholarship Program: These scholarships provide support for Orange County Hispanic students who are currently enrolled at a community college and plan to transfer to a 4-year college or university. Awards may be applied to any accredited college or university. Applications are available in late October. Please visit the web site for current application information.

    KIWANIS CLUB OF SANTA ANA: The Kiwanis Club of Santa Ana is a community partner of Santa Ana College. They offer various scholarships with award amounts up to $5,000 to students who live in the City of Santa Ana. Eligible students may be continuing their education at SAC, or they may be students transferring to a four-year university. Use this application process to apply.

    The Scholarship Program offers scholarships to students who are transferring to a four-year university, continuing their education at Santa Ana College (SAC) and to high school seniors who will be entering Santa Ana College. In addition to institutional scholarships, we offer information on outside organization scholarships.

    Universal Rolling Scholarship

    Rolling Scholarship: The Universal Rolling Scholarship Application allows Santa Ana College students to apply for scholarships that do not match the profile of a traditional scholarship competition program. Scholarships are limited and available to students in good academic standing who have extreme financial need. The use of the scholarship funds are limited to cover unpaid registration fees and/or books needed. Funding is limited and applicable to semester selected. Applications are available in the Scholarship Program, S-201.

    ROLLING SCHOLARSHIP BOOK AWARD: Rolling Scholarship Book Awards are $100 towards the purchase of a textbook in the Don Bookstore. Students must have extreme financial need and have not received financial assistance from any other federal, state or college program. Scholarships are awarded on first-come first-served basis until funds are exhausted. Applications are available in the Scholarship Program, S-201 when funds are available.

    Your statement is very important. The Scholarship Committee uses the statement to learn more about you as an individual and to understand your experiences, accomplishments and points of view. This statement gives you an opportunity to discuss attributes and experiences that may not be evident through a review of your academic records.
