We take our share of the respon-sibility for safety on the roads in winter very seriously.Operators need to concentrate on driving in diffi cult conditions, and so a user-friendly control box is a safety measure in itself.Multi-functional buttons make it simple to operate. Our ratched knobs allow the operator to make adjustments whilst keeping an eye on the road at all times.Other operational needs are equal-ly user-friendly, such as access to the rear compartment, opening up the hopper cover or raising the chute. All these can be comfor-tably done from ground level.

Control systems

Specially designed for winter maintenance, the display icons on our control boxes are simp-le, logical and can be read at a glance.At your disposal are three types of control box (CL, CX and CB) – one will be suitable for your operations.All control boxes carry the “e-mark” = EMC (electro-magnetic compatibility)All components have the high-est IP- protection rate possible (Control panel IP54, job control-ler IP66) for the toughest winter conditions and will keep out water/humidity, dirt and salt. This is another example of STRATOS’ built-in reliability.

Modular designThe modular construction of the STRATOS spreader is comprised of the following:

Hoppers, auger/conveyor belt systems, pre-wet fi ttings incl brine tanks, choice of drive systems, control systems, distribution systems, and de-mount systems

Our modular build system – with infi nite combinations – allows a cost-effective design, tailored to your operations. Using innovative production methods, the simple yet extreme-ly robust spreader build provides a saving in weight of up to 30% for the same payload, giving the potential to increase capacity.

Distribution systemSmooth salt delivery is guaranteed with our stainless steel enclosed chute with its polished surface and Tefl on-coated tail feed.Both dry and wet spreading materials are directed from the chutes onto the mixing cone of the 5 zone spinner and continue down the fl ights, right to the edge of the spinner disc. When pre-wet spreading, this system produ-ces a thoroughly mixed solution of brine and salt which is highly resistant to the effects of wind turbulence whilst spreading at speed. Setting a consistent spread pattern for both symmetrical and assymetrical spreading is as-sured by the swivel motion of the spinner disc assembly which is controlled either manually or electronically from the control box.

STRATOS’ 5 zone spinner brings the dry and wet materials together for a perfect mix as follows:

1 – Salt and brine feed chutes

2 – First mix on leaving chutes

3 – At the cone, where thedesign provides axial mixing

4 – Radial mixing in the openspace between cone and fl ights

5 – Solution leaves spinner instraight, highly defi ned lines

Materials/Dosage/Pre-wet spreading

Conveyor belt systemThe low maintenance V-profi le conveyor belt is made from elastomer which is reinforced inter-nally with non-stretch webbing. This belt provi-des smooth and even transport of the de-icing medium from the hopper. The conveyor belt is fully supported throughout its length by a low friction stainless steel skid plate. Above the belt is a pressure distributor which relieves the weight of the salt on the conveyor belt. Precision control of the belt speed from the control box allows operators to set dosages down to single gram increments.

The dosage door with integrated lump crusher gives the operator an undisturbed spreading operation! Under constant pressure, the crusher reduces lumps in the spreading material. Stones and other debris will not block or damage the system.

Auger systemThe hydraulic drive on the auger system starts up immediately on ignition, ensuring that the feed auger begins to rotate instantly and consistently. The design of the special Flex auger consists of cold moulded double spiral coils with open structure. It requires less power as well as lower torque.Consistent dosage is assured by a closed control circuit with continuous programmed versus actual comparison of the auger revolutions.

Pre-wet operationPre-wet spreading is integrated within the spreader design. The shock and frost resistant side tanks are made of PE-material. The capacity of the brine tanks is based on a 70:30 mix ratio. The liquid level can be checked easily and is positioned within eyes reach of the fi lling connection. The high ca-pacity (100 l/min) hydraulic brine pump effectively prevented for empty-running. Feedback from the integrated rev sensor guarantees a high degree of accuracy for pre-wet spreading.

Job controllerThe controller is located in a closed compartment at the rear of the spreader. It’s easily accessible and provides excellent protection from salt ingress. Its design keeps the control box in the cab compact and user-friendly.

The future of spreading is already here with:

Thermologic – for live temperature-controlled spreading, and programmable to anticipate changes in temperatu-re. For use with the CL control box.Autologic – Is a GPS-based spreading control system combined with a route navigation program. Together, they direct the operator along a pre-programmed spreading route, whilst adjusting the spreader settings automatically.Datalogging – Storage of spreading route data as well as data transmission using:memory card – GSM/GPRS – Winterlogic management program – any other datalogging systems.More datalogging options available on request.
