In the late 1920’s, Mrs. MollieSchlesinger’s great passionswere taking care of herdaughter Betty and her sonJules, as well as serving herhusband, Mr. Joseph

Schlesinger a delicious hot meal when hegot home from work.

One night Mr. Schlesinger said if heopened a restaurant that served Mrs.Schlesinger’s chicken in the pot, peoplewould flock there.

Mrs. Schlesinger said, “Then do it, be-cause if you don’t, you’ll always regret it.I’ll help you with the cooking.”

So in 1930, with modest savings and asmall loan from Mrs. Schlesinger’s father,Schlesinger’s Luncheonette in West NewYork, New Jersey was born.

Schlesinger’s opened at 5AM to servethe workers on the first shift at the nearbyIdeal Laundry plant. He stayed opened tillmidnight to accomodate workers on thelate shift.

Having a father with his own sodafountain made Betty popular with herclassmates. They would go there forSchlesinger’s famed egg creams.

In June,1950, Betty Schlesinger mar-ried Edward Domb and had two sons, Peterand Allan. In 2010 Allan openedSchlesinger’s Restaurant and Delicatessen.

We hope you try our Mrs. Schlesinger-inspired chicken in the pot.

And, as Mr. Schlesinger used to say,“What’s a fine dinner without schnapps?”

You’re welcomed to bring your favoritewine and spirits.
