    Dear Neighbor,

I want to wish all of the citizens of the 33 rd district

a Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays! The holi-day season is the part of the year to spend as much

time as possible with our friends and loved ones.

It also a time to reflect on the many great things

that we have all been blessed with.

Through the many obstacles we have faced this

year, Ohio is continuing to make progress. I

know times have been difficult and there are many

people that are still struggling. We must all con-

tinue to work together and help our neighbors. If

you can spare something that may positively af-

fect the life of another, then I ask you to please

give. Something that seems so small to you could make your neighbors holiday.

I have been truly blessed to serve you all as State Senator for the last two years, and I am

very excited to continue to do so for the next four. Every day I meet more and more con-

stituents in our district, and I appreciate the feedback and support that I receive. If I can

ever be of assistance to you, please do not hesitate to contact me.

There are many improvements that need to be made in our communities, state and country. If we can all continue to work together as a team, I know that we will be successful in over-

coming these challenges. Again, have a very Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays!!

    Sincerely,

Senator Schiavoni Spends Day in Alliance Touring Local FoodPantry and Speaking to Members of Rotary & Kiwanis ClubALLIANCE Senator Schiavoni recently toured the Alli-

ance Community Food Pantry. The pantry is designed to

help families and citizens in a time of need. It provides food

for people who are struggling and in need of a helping hand.

The Alliance Food Pantry is a great way to assist commu-

nity members and I was extremely impressed with the estab-

lishment after I was given the tour, Schiavoni said.

After touring the Pantry, the Senator was a guest speaker at

an annual Alliance Kiwanis and Rotary Club meeting. At-

tendees took part in a luncheon that was held in the Hoover-

Price Campus Center, at the University of Mount Union.

Following the luncheon, Senator Schiavoni spoke at the

meeting and answered questions for those who attended.

I was honored to speak at this yearly event and was pre-

sented with some great questions from the audience, said

Schiavoni. Listening to peoples questions and concerns

really motivates me to work hard everyday and do all that I

can to help the citizens of my district.

Parishioners and Volunteers Deliver Thanksgiving Meals to Area SeniorsNORTH JACKSON On November24th Senator Schiavoni and volunteers

    helped deliver Thanksgiving meals to

senior citizens in the Mahoning Valley.

This effort was part of the fourth an-

    nual Thanksgiving for Seniors pro-

gram, which is sponsored by the Ma-

    honing County Sheriffs Departments

    Senior Services unit.

    Parishioners of the First Federated

Church of North Jackson helped pre-

pare the meals that included all of the

    traditional fixings: turkey, stuffing,

    green beans, mashed potatoes, and

    pumpkin pie for dessert.

    The volunteers delivered over 250

meals to seniors, and most importantly

spent time visiting with each of the re-

    cipients, many whom spend Thanks-

    giving alone.

Everyone who I visited in Austintown

was really excited and welcomed me in

to their home. Thanksgiving isnt justabout eating turkey; its about spending

the day with family and friends, said

    Senator Schiavoni.

    Local business and organization dona-

tions made this event possible, and left-

overs were sent to the Rescue Mission

    of the Mahoning Valley.

Downtown Youngstownholds 2010 Holiday ParadeYOUNGSTOWN On December 4th, Youngstown held

its annual Holiday Parade and Tree Lighting Ceremony at

Central Square on East Federal Street. Despite the chilly

climate, many citizens of Youngstown attended the event.

Children of all ages were in attendance, enjoying Christmas

    music and the parade.

It was great to see all the kids enjoying themselves and

having a wonderful time during the parade, said Schiavoni.

Even though it was pretty cold, I had a great time and the

parade brought back many childhood memories.

Featured in the parade were: Mayor Jay Williams, Youngs-

town Police and Fire Department, Mahoning County Sher-

iffs Department, Youngstown State University President

Cynthia Anderson, members of the YSU football team and

cheerleaders, members of the media, local politicians and

    officials, and many more.

Senator Schiavoni AttendsPolands Annual VillageLighting CelebrationPOLAND Poland held their 2nd Annual Lighting of the

Village Christmas Celebration on December 4th at the Vil-

lage Hall. Hundreds of citizens gathered to hear the Poland

Seminary High School Choir sing, enjoy cookies and hot

chocolate, and watch as the Christmas Tree was lit.

The event was organized by the Poland Junior WomensClub, a non-profit group that hosts events year long such as

an Easter Egg Hunt in April and a parade for Halloween in

October. The club also provides local students with schol-

arship opportunities and collects items for the local Poland

    Village Food Pantry.

This year was the second year that Poland has put on the

event, and if attendance is any indicator, it is growing to

become a village tradition. Poland Mayor Tim Sicafuse in-

troduced some members in attendance, including State

    Senator Joe Schiavoni.

The Junior Womens Club did a tremendous job putting

this together, and the village really looks great, said Sena-

tor Schiavoni. I look forward to attending the event next

year; its becoming a tradition the residents of Poland

    should be proud of.

BOARDMAN Senator Schiavoni spent a Monday in

December helping out the Salvation Army by ringing the

bell and manning the traditional red kettle in front of

Barnes and Noble bookstore at the Shops at Boardman

    Park.

Senator Schiavoni, a strong supporter of the Salvation

Army, said that the frigid conditions and long hours

standing were well worth it for the cause.

The Salvation Army supports so many people here in the

Valley, said the Senator. Raising money to help out

those in need, especially during the Holidays, is worth doing

no matter what the weather is like. Im glad I was able to

    help.

The Red Kettle Kick-Off Campaign began in early Novem-

ber, and officials say that money raised at the kettles this

season provides assistance for not only the holidays but also

for next year. During the official Kick-Off Event back in,

Senator Schiavoni and Youngstown State University Presi-

dent Dr. Cynthia Anderson made a friendly wager to seewho could raise the most money.

and his elves could be seen from the window greeting the

    passengers joyously.

Also during the trip, passengers played Christmas games,

sang songs with elves, visited with Santa, and got their veryown bell just like the character in the book.

Senator Schiavoni had a great time on the Polar Express say-

ing, It was probably the neatest Christmas experience Ive

ever had. The people at the Depot do a fantastic job of mak-
