Introduction

Tower Project JET Services hotel @ home Programme will support JET students to increase their independent living and employment skills by learning to undertake key activities required in the hospitality sector in the home.

By working to maintain a five-star hotel standard at home, individual students will develop key vocational skills that have enabled past students to gain employment in the hospitality sector with leading companies including Intercontinental Hotel Group, The Marriot and Novotel.

The programme has also supported students to gain the transferable skills to progress into work in other employment sectors including Sport and Leisure, Facilities Management, Catering and Retail.

The hotel @ home programme will not only support students to be more work ready, but will aim to transform students who may have a more relaxed view regarding housework to play a more active role in daily household tasks that build up when everyone’s at home.

Like work, the hotel @ home programme will reward students for completing programme activities and hotel @ home stars which will be awarded every two weeks for students that complete their workbooks in full.

Students achieving a Five Stars for their hotel @ home can earn £50 in Amazon Vouchers (£10 per Star) and there will also be additional competitions throughout the duration of the programme for students to earn additional rewards.

These rewards have been kindly sponsored by the Tower Project’s Haggerston Perk and Ocean View Café’s whose staff have been involved in the development of the programme workbooks.

Using the Learning and Resource PackIn the workbook there are a number of daily tasks for students to undertake and evidence throughout the week and every student on the programme will receive ongoing telephone and online support from their allocated JET Job Coach who with the assistance of parents / carers will ensure that the tasks are completed along with the workbook by the end of the week.

By completing the workbooks each week students are developing their work readiness and maintaining their employment fitness to ensure smooth progression back onto their work placements when JET programmes return to normal.

SafetyPlease ensure that all equipment is always used appropriately. Ensure that an appropriate adult oversees the individual when using an electrical appliance, sharp object or hot surface until individual is competent at given task.

Support for students to complete the workbooks

This programme is targeted at students on JET’s Employment Training Programmes and will support students to build upon their existing independent living and employment skills by undertaking key work activities of the hospitality sector in the home

Starting with the Workbook enclosed with this letter, we will post out to you weekly workbooks which students will be tasked to complete with the telephone support of JET Job Coaches and Tutors and the assistance of parents and carers.

With your support the hotel @ home programme will develop the transferable skills and increase the work readiness of students for jobs in a wide range employment sectors including Hospitality, Catering, Retail, Sports and Leisure and Facilities Management.

The programme will also seek to transform students who may typically have a more relaxed approach to housework to play a more active role in household tasks that build up when everyone is at home.

Just like the world of work, the hotel @ home programme will reward students for completing programme activities at home and students achieving a Five Star status for their hotel @ home will receive £50 in Amazon Vouchers.

Staff are required to call their learners each day at a time arranged between the staff member, the learner and their parent or carer. The staff member can inform the learner and their parent or carer of the workbook activities and guide the learner to understand how to complete the activity set for that day. The staff member can also liaise with the learner’s parent or carer to ensure they are of the understanding and capability to support the learner to complete the set task for the day.

Learners can send evidence of the completion of the activity by email to the Job Coach. Alternatively, learners can return the completed workbook by using the return envelope provided for them or keep hold of the workbook and return to Tower Project once the programmes scheduled to operate again.

The Tower Project will be delivering weekly online quizzes as part of the continued employment training. Each week a weekly quiz based on that week’s workbook will be published for learners to take part in. This support parents, carers and Job Coaches to monitor the learner’s progression as well as, offer a chance for the learner to see their progression.
