Introduction

Tower Project JET Services hotel @ home Programme will support JET students to increase their independent living and employment skills by supporting students to learn at home key work tasks required in the hospitality sector.

By working to maintain a five-star hotel standard at home, individual students will develop key vocational skills that have enabled past students to gain employment in the hospitality sector with leading companies including Intercontinental Hotel Group, The Marriot and Novotel.

The programme has also supported students to gain the transferable skills to progress into work in other employment sectors including Sport and Leisure, Facilities Management, Catering and Retail.

The hotel @ home programme will not only support students to be more work ready but will aim to transform students who may have a more relaxed view regarding housework, to play a more active role in daily household tasks that build up when everyone’s at home.

This programme is targeted at students on JET’s Supported Internship Programmes and will support students to build upon their existing independent living and employment skills gained on work placements that have been curtailed by recent events.

Each week the students will be sent workbooks based on an area of employment in a hotel. The workbooks require the students to undertake and evidence activities throughout the working week and every student on the programme will receive ongoing telephone and online support from their JET Job Coach, who with the assistance of parents / carers will ensure that the tasks are completed along with the workbook by the end of the week.

By completing the workbooks each week, students will be developing their work readiness and maintaining their employment fitness to ensure smooth progression into employment at the end of the academic year or back into their work placements if events end sooner.

Like real employment, the hotel @ home programme will reward students for their work in completing programme activities and hotel stars which will be awarded every two weeks for students that complete their workbooks in full.

Students achieving a Five Star status for their hotel @ home will earn £50 in Amazon Vouchers and there will also be additional tests and competitions throughout the duration of the programme for students to earn additional rewards.

Rewards for the programme have been kindly sponsored by Haggerston Perk and Ocean View Café’s whose staff have been involved in the development of the programme workbooks.

Number of sessions: 50 sessions (10 x 5 sessions p/w)

Module Learning Objectives: To sustain and further develop the vocational and independent living skills of JET Supported Internship students and support either progression into sustained paid employment at the end of the Programme or a smooth transition back into their work placements if current Government guidance changes before the end of term.Module Learning Aims:The aim of the programme is to support students to sustain and develop the employment skills they gained undertaking supported work placements in the hospitality sector through undertaking supported work activities in the hospitality sector in their hotel @ home.

Staff Support:To ease the transition from supported work placement to social distancing at home, all students will receive dedicated support from the same award winning TSI Trained Job Coaches that supported each student on their work placement. Staff will provide support remotely via telephone / online and resources will be sent to students in hard copy and for those who prefer electronically.

Students on the hotel @ home programme will also have access to support from JET Tutors and in the last third of the programme from JET’s award-winning Disability Employment Advisor Team.

hotel @ home Housekeeping Students develop work skills essential to gaining employment in a Hotel Housekeeping Department and for living independently in the home.

Students will learn to undertake activities including bedmaking, bed stripping, laundry, vacuuming and wet and dry floor and surface cleaning.

hotel @ home Restaurant and Cafe Students will develop key skills for employment in Hotel Catering and for living independently in the home.

Students will undertake activities including understanding food safety and storage, preparing hot

hotel @ home Cashier Desk

Students will develop key work skills essential for employment as a Hotel Cashier Desk and for the development of their own independent living skills.

Students will undertake money management and budgeting activities and will be supported to understand everyday financial documents such as payslips and receipts.

hotel @ home Health and Wellbeing Floor

Students will learn basic skills for employment in Health and Fitness through undertaking activities that foster the importance of living a healthy lifestyle at home including health diet and exercise.

hotel @ home Concierge Desk A Hotel Concierge is key member of staff in a hotel and organises activities and entertainment for hotel guests e.g. getting concert tickets.

Students will learn the skills required to be a Hotel Concierge by researching and planning a programme

of free indoor activities and entertainment for a tourist of a similar age staying at the hotel @ home during half term week.

Half Term Week

Students will become a hotel guest for the week and undertake the activities that they designed in their role as a concierge. To judge their success, students will be asked to send holiday snaps of their activities for JET’s hotel @ home holiday photo album.

1st June 2020

hotel @ home Spa and Salon Students will develop key skills for working in a Hotel Spa by learning how to maintain good standards of personal appearance and personal hygiene that are required to work in the hospitality sector.

These skills will also support students with their independent living and will be vital when students gain interviews for employment.

Wk 7

8th June 2020

hotel @ home Marketing and Advertising Students will develop an understanding of marketing by designing a logo and advert for their hotel @ home.

The marketing skills learnt in this activity, can also be used in the development of their CV’s and how they present and market themselves at interview.

Wk hotel @ home Human Resources Dept – Job Searching

15th June

Students will be supported by their Job Coach and JET Disability Employment Advisers to review their vocational profiles and begin searching for employment opportunities in their chosen area of work.

22nd June

hotel @ home Human Resources Dept – Applying for Jobs

Students will be supported by their Job Coach and JET Disability Employment Advisers to update and review their CV’s and begin applying for jobs.

Wk 10

29th June

hotel @ home Human Resources Dept - Interview Students will be supported by their Job Coach to undertake a range of mock interviews and interview training over the telephone and online. The week will culminate with each student undertaking a telephone interview test by a HR Professional (tbc)

Online Tests

As part of the hotel @ home programme The Tower Project will be delivering weekly online tests using the QUIZIZZ app which students have been previously supported to use. Each week a test based on that week’s workbook will be published online for learners to take part in.

Using Quizizz for regular testing is a fun way for students, parents and Job Coaches to monitor student’s progression whilst they are learning at home.

Learners can access the weekly tests from a home computer using the quizizz website or download the free Quizizz app to their smartphone or tablet through their app store.
