History & Overvie
In 2010, the Georgetown community passed a bond to renovate and expand the existing Georgetown High School campus to accommodate an increase in cam-pus population, make the campus more user-friendly and to update the interior spaces of the building. In 2015, the Georgetown community passed another bond to renovate the remaining interior spaces that did not receive work as part of the 2010 bond. These classroom spaces, consisting of mainly academic classrooms, will also be renovated to give GHS staff and teachers the appropriate, fl exible teaching spaces needed to fi t Georgetown ISD’s vision for modern instructional delivery. The bulk of the work at this campus will be concentrated on updating and modernizing the old Vocational Wing to become a state-of-the-art Career and Technical Education facility.
Design
The existing South Academic Wing will be renovated with new wall, fl oor and ceiling fi nishes matching the renovations completed as part of the 2010 bond. The classroom teaching spaces will be modifi ed to house the English and Social Studies houses. Each house will have its own fl exible learning environment that can be used as regular classrooms or expanded for collaborative learning.
The existing Fine Arts Wing will be renovated with new wall, fl oor and ceiling fi n-ishes matching the rest of the building.
The science labs that were not renovated in the 2010 bond will be renovated to have fi nishes consistent with the rest of the campus. The 2010 bond gave GHS 8 new fully-loaded science labs. These newer science labs will remain. The older, existing science labs will be renovated to have minimal fi xed equipment – giving the Science house more fl exible learning environments.
The existing Vocational Wing, currently houses agricultural and welding programs, hasn’t been renovated since it was built in the late 1970s. It is dark and can be diffi cult to navigate. The renovations to this space will give this wing a complete transformation on the inside. The goal is to give Georgetown students and the community state of the art engineering, fabrication and agricultural labs that have appropriate utilities, daylighting and fl exible learning environments. Glass will be added to bring in daylight, walls will be removed to open up spaces and move-able partitions will be installed to bring collaboration spaces to the CTE house. All of this wing will be renovated to have fi nishes consistent with the rest of the campus.
In an eff ort to bring the GHS to the target goal of 2,300 students, the GHS Annex which shares space with Richarte HS will have some minor renovation work done to accommodate future campus growth.
Overall the scope of work in this bond will give GHS the fl exibility and environ-ment it will need to meet the demands of a growing population and to meet the district’s vision for modern instructional delivery .
