HOW TO REACH US:

On Sunday, March 12, a special Voters’ Meeting was called to decide the issues of the expansion of our parking lot and the offering of a contract for our Director of Music Ministry. 96 Voting Members were in attendance. The expansion of the parking lot, which is to cost no more than $470,000, was passed by a vote of 91 yes votes, 4 no votes and 1 abstention. A unanimous vote followed, agreeing to raise $70,000 by July 1 by pay the balance of the project. It is our hope that the 6-8 week project will begin in May or June. The second topic of the meeting was the offering of a one-year contract to Michael Zehnder as our Director of Music Ministry. By this time a few of the folks had to leave. Only 90 votes were cast. All the votes were "Yes". A contract was sent to Michael on Tuesday. If he accepts the position we hope that he is able to start in the early part of May. Words of thanks were shared with the Parking Lot Committee and the Music Committee for their dedicated work. Thanks were also shared with all the musicians and directors and other helpers who have assisted during this time of vacancy. The next quarterly meeting for the Voters’ will be at noon on Sunday, April 23 - the Sunday after Easter.

RESULTS FROM OUR SPECIAL VOTERS’ MEETING HELD MARCH 12

“On March 12, the voters approved a fund raising drive to help complete the Parking Lot Project. We are planning to raise $70,000 by July. Please mark your contribution envelopes or checks to designate your contributions for the Parking Lot Project. We will provide periodic reports in the Happenings of the progress of our contributions toward this goal. We urge everyone to continue to donate their regular contribution to the congregation.” Ascension Trustees

LUTHERAN FAMILY SERVICES

LOVE INC. CORNER: TO VOLUNTEER OR FOR ASSISTANCE CALL 303-794-LOVE (5683)

Love INC’s main purpose is to provide opportunities to our communities through over 45 churches that give Love INC. a volunteer base. Love INC leads our efforts to shelter the homeless. Love INC provides diapers, financial planning and rides for people that need help getting to the Doctor’s office, the grocery store or the bank. In other words, Love INC. with their Gap Ministries, provides help that is normally not performed by our churches.

Need help developing a budget? Managing our money without a budget is difficult. Love INC volunteers assist people who struggle with finances by identifying expenses and assets and exploring additional resources. The outcome is a manageable budget. Call Love INC at 303-794-LOVE (5683) to work with a counselor or any other need.

Ascension shelters March 26-April 1 and our final week will be April 23-April 29. As always, Colorado weather is unpredictable...probably more so in Springtime! Continue to pray for all of our guests and our volunteers and also pray for LOVE INC and our Partner Churches.

MISSION AND MINISTRY

Yes, you are a Member of the Foundation if you are a Member of Ascension Lutheran Church!!

The Foundation’s March 9th meeting was called to order by our new President Mike Price. Mike will be presenting our Officers and Board of Director to the congregation at the April 23rd Voters’ Meeting for approval. Mike became a member of Ascension April of 2016 and joined our board in September. That’s what I call ‘jumping right into service’ and we are grateful God has prepared him for our management team . If you don’t know Mike please introduce yourself to him at the Voters’ Meeting. Bill Thieme our director working with our youth with the Book Reimbursement Program will be meeting with the graduating High School Seniors and parents to introduce them to the program. The target date for the meeting is April 12. You will be receiving a letter from Bill so be looking forward to that.

The rest of the meeting were some housekeeping items on previous Grants; Lynn Hendrickson reported that the Certificate of Good Standing has been renewed for 2017 for the Foundation; Jim Shelton will continue to distribute mission newsletters to board members; Jerry Gerdes reported on progress on the Foundation’s publication of UPDATE newsletter to the congregation coming out the end of April; The possibilities of increasing the Foundation’s presence on the current church web. Best of all the increase market value of $8,605 in our February in our portfolio at Wells Fargo. VERY NICE!!

To support Your Foundation with a gift or to submit a Grant Request, please contact Mike Price. For a timely response please have your Grant Requests in before the end of each month.

In the Narthex, you will find a Foundation Bulletin Board. There are envelopes for special gifts or memorials made to the Foundation. Grant applications and guidelines are available, as well. PLEASE SUBMIT GRANT APPLICATIONS BY THE END OF EACH MONTH. THANKS.

Is your sewing machine gathering dust? Are your sewing skills getting rusty? Would you like to work on Ascension's "stash" of fabric? Would you like to get some ideas for your "stash"? If so, then the Quilters Circle is for you!! In 2016 we made lap blankets for our shut-ins, baby blankets for Baptisms and we donated numerous lap blankets to Orphan Grain Train. We meet Saturday afternoons from 2 until 4 p.m. under the leadership of Chris Peepgrass. Much of the actual sewing is done at home in your spare time - no pressure and no criticism - just lots of encouragement and new ideas. (In case you're wondering our lap blankets are tied - no hand quilting!!) Please call Chris Peepgrass at 303-798-4018 with any questions, or if you would like to join us.
