MISSION AND MINISTRY

You are a Member of the Foundation if you are a Member of Ascension Lutheran Church!

There were two Grant Requests approved at the November meeting for our Youth. One, up to $500 matching funds, to support the youth group’s Calendar Sale. The second was up to $1,000 matching funds for the youth Bake and Craft Sale that was held on December 11. All funds will support Youth Activities.

The Ascension Foundation ‘THANKS’ all of you that have supported our November fund raising request to date. Although our fund raising day was Sunday, November 13th we are keeping our request open through the month of December. Our hope is to have sufficient gifts from you our Ascension members to allow continuing support for our in-place missions and ministries both here at Ascension and over seas. We are also considering a few new missions! Please add gifting the Foundation to your year-end considerations. Remember these gifts are tax deductible and they keep growing with the Foundation. No gift is too small or too large!!

If you have questions about the Foundation and its mission please contact one of our Board Members: Jim Shelton, Larry Nisbet, Lynn Hendrickson, Jerry Gerdes, Dave Hitztaler, Tom Munson, Bill Thieme, Mike Price, Lisa Riebling and Joyce Wagner. We THANK YOU again for all your support!

To support Your Foundation with a gift or to submit a Grant Request, please contact Jim Shelton at 303-794-3504. For a timely response please have your Grant Requests in before the end of each month.

In the Narthex, you will find a Foundation Bulletin Board. There are envelopes for special gifts or memorials made to the Foundation. Grant applications and guidelines are available, as well. PLEASE SUBMIT GRANT APPLICATIONS BY THE END OF EACH MONTH. THANKS.

EVENTS COMING UP SOON! TODAY, Sunday, December 25: Christmas Morning Worship & Holy Communion at

9:30 a.m. (No Sunday School!)

Saturday, December 31: We will, once again, celebrate New Year's Eve with Worship followed by a catered meal...from Romano's! Worship will be at 3 p.m. on December 31 followed by the meal. This will still leave plenty of time for other activities! We do ask that you sign up if you plan to attend the meal so that we have an idea of how

much food we will need to order! If you could sign up (on the bulletin board...or call the office) no later than Wednesday, December 28, that would be wonderful! We are also

in need of help with the dinner that evening. We will need help setting up for the dinner, serving the meal, and help with the clean-up, after the meal. Adults, youth,

anyone with a heart to help is welcome. If you are able to help in one or more of these areas, please sign-up on the bulletin board.

Sunday, January 1: New Year’s Morning Worship & Holy Communion at 9:30 a.m. (No

Sunday School!)

MATTERS OF IMPORTANCE!

SEVERE WEATHER SHELTER NETWORK!

We are in need of a few things to ensure a successful season, first we are still in need of a Thursday night Team Lead and 2 Thursday night Overnight Hosts, please be prayerful about participating in this ministry. We are always welcoming additional evening hosts as well so do not be shy about wanting to participate. If you would like to provide part of a meal on sheltering nights please email [email protected]. We are also in need of cereal for breakfast along with snack bars, fruit cups, fig bars, individually wrapped crackers, etc. If you would like to donate any of these items please bring to the church marked with SWSN and leave in the entry way or place on the left side of the stage. Our next sheltering period will be the week of January 1-7.

THANKS FROM THE YOUTH!

THANK YOU!!! Thanks to all who donated and purchased craft and baked goods for the sale last Sunday. MANY thanks to Amy Boeding and Lisa Riebling for planning and leading the sale. We took in over $1200, thanks to those who purchased our variety of items. Many thanks to the Foundation, which provided matching funds of $1000 for the sale. This was a fundraiser, so the money raised will go toward the mission trip next summer.

Also, thanks to all who purchased the 2017 wall calendars that we sold as a youth fundraiser. We sold out, thanks to all of you, so we took in $500! Lisa Riebling was in charge of the sale, so we’re grateful to her. Thanks to the Foundation for providing matching funds of $500 for the sale. Those proceeds will also go toward the summer mission trip. Thanks for your faithful support!

LUTHERAN WITNESS SUBSCRIPTION

Join us for our meeting on January 5 at 7 p.m. The meeting will center around a talk by Rev Dr. Joel Heck, who is a professor of Theology at Concordia - Austin. He will be speaking on “Creation in the New Testament.” Please note that this meeting will be held at Hope Lutheran Church, 1345 Macon Street, Aurora, Colorado!

We have started a MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) group at Ascension! MOPS is an international organization which ministers to preschool moms and their kids. They meet at Ascension on the second Tuesday morning each month during the school year from 9:30—11:30 a.m. If this is something that interests you, and you'd like more details, please contact Christy Williams at [email protected] or at 303-660-5207.

The 2017 Flower weekly signup sheet is located on the bulletin board on the landing just down from the Narthex. Simply fill out your name, dedication for a special event, and write a check for the number of arrangements, each arrangement is $25.50, the cost for both arrangements is $51.

You are welcome to take your donated flowers home after the last service, or you can opt to give them another good deed. The Ladies of Circle IV will take the

flowers left to the homebound and hospitalized members of our church to brighten their day!

You may pay for your flowers using the envelopes located below the sign up sheet and place it in the weekly offering plate. It is very important to mark your check clearly “ALTAR FLOWERS” so the offering counters do not credit it to the General Fund, but to floral budget, the church does not have a floral budget, and all Altar Flowers are made possible by donations. Please remember to pay for your flowers by the Sunday you are dedicating them.

Thank you all for your flower donations and the beauty, which they bring to our Church.
