DELHI, BANGALORE & MUMBAI: The Business Climate Survey 2015/16
report is out and during January and February, we presented it in Del-
hi, Bangalore and Mumbai. Sweden is next and Stockholm, Gothen-
burg and Malmo are on between April 4-6. These are great opportuni-
ties for your colleagues and business partners in Sweden to attend to
hear more about making business in India!
During all three events in India, we
have had great participation from Swe-
dish companies, representatives from
other countries and from central and
state governments. Ambitabh Kant,
since March 1 the new CEO of NITI
Aayog, participated in the launch
event on Jan 29 in Delhi and urged the
company leaders present to “…stay
ahead of the curve and invest now, as
in a few years the ground will already
be muted in…”. The panel discussion,
moderated by CNBC-TV18’s Rituparna
Bhuyan, and with Kandarp Singh, MD Tetra Pak South Asia and also
Chairman of the Board of the Chamber, Juvencio Maeztu, CEO IKEA
India, Kamal Bali, MD Volvo Group and PKSV Sagar, MD Camfil Air
filtration concluded that GST is the key awaited reform and with 2-3%
direct impact on the bottom line it will make a big difference. Watch
the panel discussion on CNBC-TV18. Check out photos from the
launch events on our Facebook page.
In Bangalore, during Invest Karnataka on Feb 3-4, Anjum Parvez, for-
mer MD of BMTC and Ekroop Caur, current MD of the same organiza-
tion joined us and appreciated what they heard about opportunities
and challenges companies perceive to be present. Kamal Bali along
with Stefan Palskog, new MD for Scania, Juvencio and Paval Siddique,
Indpro talked about the support received from the Karnataka govt.
during their course of setting up business but also how important it is
that the state increase their focus in areas such as infrastructure and
gender equality to become first choice for new investments.
As a prelude to the “Make in India” week in Mumbai, the BCS was
presented to a full house on Feb 12. Bhushan Gagrani, MD MIDC
joined us along with State Secretary for the Ministry of Enterprise and
Innovation, Govt. of Sweden, Oscar Stenstrom and the incoming Swe-
dish business delegation. Oscar’s words capture the current sentiment
expressed between Sweden and India quite to the point: “This survey
truly illustrates that the potential for India and Sweden to collaborate
are unlimited. It is great to see that these Swedish companies are opti-
mistic. Going forward I hope we will see the footprint of the Swedish
business community increase further in India”. The following days,
Prime Minister Stefan Löfven discussed several issues with his counter-
part Prime Minister Narendra Modi- including echoing the Swedish
companies’ stand on the issue of women empowerment and safety.
Crucial for the development of India!
Team Sweden; the Embassy in Delhi, Consulate General in Mumbai,
the Chamber and Business Sweden are now taking the BCS results
further by pinpointing some of the issues especially high-lighted by
companies as challenges while doing business in India. Our focus are-
as are Labour Laws and the work around these started already last
year, including mapping of specific issues, interaction with govern-
ment and knowledge sessions to bring light to areas of ambiguous
legislation. On March 11 we gather companies in Delhi for a discussion
on Financial Operations: Banking/Financial flows, Taxation and Cus-
toms and this will soon be repeated in Pune and Bangalore as well. If
your company experiences some difficulties in any of these areas,
make sure you are present in these events.
