Thursday Tour Winery Details: Visit Intrigue Wines, the newest winery on the bench. When deciding what to name their winery they wondered "What is it about wine that captivates us, that keeps us coming back for more, and that still interests us after all these years?" Some people like to know where the wine comes from. Others like to know who made it or how it will change with time. The foodies want to know what flavours they will find in their glass and how it will pair with a certain dish. We're all intrigued about wine so they named their new boutique estate winery Intrigue. At the 2012 Fall Wine Festival Awards Intrigue Wines won Sliver for their 2011 Gewurztraimner and Bronze for their 2011 Riesling. Enjoy Gray Monk Estate Winery, the oldest family owned and operated estate winery in B.C. and winner of the “Generations Award for the Family Winery of Distinction” for North America. Gray Monk is the Okanagan Valley's only original winery that is still operated by its founders. Taste their flavourful wines and take time to shop in the new and spectacular wine boutique. Visit Ex Nihilo Vineyards, where the owners have succeeded in fulfilling their dream on a steep 10‐acre property. The name, Ex Nihilo, means “out of nothing”, and the owners truly have a story to tell about how the soil, climate and steep slopes of this beautiful property has created their gold awarded wines. The Tasting Room was designed by the owner Jeff Harder. In designing the modern Mediterranean style winery, Jeff focused on creating a winery that not only would reflect the meaning of Ex Nihilo, but also a destination where their guests can enjoy a truly unique Okanagan Valley wine experience. Visit the delightful family owned Arrowleaf Cellars for a tasting of their clean, crisp, cool climate whites and barrel aged reds. The winery is named after the beautiful Arrowleaf Balsamroot wildflower which adorns Okanagan hillsides in the spring. Their 2011 First Crush Rose won several awards in 2012 and their 2011 Bacchus just won a bronze metal at the 2012 BC Wine Awards.
Sunday Tour Winery Details: At Volcanic Hills Estate Winery the Gidda Family has crafted wines with layers of complexity. Enjoy the tastings of wines made from 100% B.C. grapes from the family’s own vineyard. Their diverse portfolio of wines offers quality, selection, great value and affordability. There's a wonderful selection of unique gift ideas, specialty food items, local art and books, as well as non‐alcoholic beverages. In 2012 Volcanic Hills won several awards including “best in their class” for their Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer at the 2012 Fall Okanagan Wine Festival’s People’s Choice Awards and was also named Best New Winery of the Year in a competition sponsored by the Fall Okanagan Wine Festival. The informative tour of Quail's Gate begins at the original wine shop, situated in a historic log cabin built in 1873 for John and Susan Allison. This home was the first permanent structure on the west side of Okanagan Lake. The next item on the agenda is a stroll through the vineyard. Quails’ Gate is known for its ideal site for growing varietal grapes, especially Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The tour guide will take you through the entire growing season, explaining what activities take place at various times of the year. From the vineyard, head to the state‐of‐the‐art production facility to learn about crushing and de‐stemming, pressing and fermentation, and the aging and bottling processes. No tour is complete without the opportunity to try the finished product. Quails’ Gate Estate Winery has won numerous international awards. You will be offered a selection of wines to sample, all made with BC‐grown grapes and approved by the Vintners Quality Alliance (VQA). Enjoy the unique red and white wines at family owned Little Straw Vineyards, located at the foot of Mt. Boucherie. Winemaker Peter Slamka is known for his exceptional Pinot Noirs and for producing the only Auxerrois Icewine in Canada. They produce a complete range of wines with something to suit most every taste. Little Straw always features breathtaking art by local artists in their beautifully spacious tasting room. Kalala Organic Estate Winery is located on the Upper Bench of beautiful West Kelowna. Overlooking the Okanagan Lake, the winery has a breathtaking view and an old‐world charm. At the 2012 Canadian Wine Awards, Kalala took home a Silver Medal for their 2010 Kalala Harmony Red, and Bronze Medals for their 2010 Kalala Harmony White and 2012 3 Cru Nomad. At the 2012 Intervin Awards they also won Medals for their 2009 3 Cru Traveller and their 2008 Dostana Merlot. With complex flavours combined with the organic practice of their wines, Kalala provides a truly unique experience.
