Scandinavian Fiddle Suite
Scandinavian Fiddle Suite illustrates the Scandinavian folk music and fiddlingtraditions that are part of the composer’s heritage and performing. The music is boundto the folk dance tradition of walking tunes and dances.
The first tune, “Äppelbo Gånglåt,” is a famous Swedish walking tune. The secondtune, “Lannavilles Schottis,” reflects an old-time dance form found throughout Swedenfor over 100 years. At a moderately slow tempo, the schottis is a 19th centuryballroom dance in duple meter, graceful and flowing, reflecting the legato character ofthe music. The Swedish polka and walking tune, “Gärdeby Låten,” is the third piecein the Suite. Imagine a parade of fiddlers walking between villages, gathering fiddlersas they go; feel the rhythm of the walking in the music!
