Since 1994, the LS-SCAMP program has welcomed minority freshmen into it’s Summer Bridge Program. This program provides an academic and transi-tion experience for underrepresented minority high school graduates who have been accepted to the College and are enrolling for the fall semester. This summer, SCAMP welcomed thirteen new students who successfully completed SPECTRA/SCAMP Bridge Program. Pictured below are two SCAMP LEADers Briana Pope and James George with new SCAMPers: Pat-rick Daniels, Eternity Hunter, Ana Jaramillo, Joseph Kahoe, Tamir Walker, Coralys Rios, Toni Allison, Faith Emetu, Tariq Walker, Olivia Suarez-Cudd, Morgan Brown-Walker, Maya Wright and Jada Young.

The 2018-2019 Academic year kicked off with the Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities program (URCA) holding a 2018 Celebration of Schol-ars: Exposition of Faculty and Student Research, Scholarship and Creativity poster session for students that conducted research over the summer. Students representing SCAMP were: Amanda Anyim, Monique Sparkman, Donzelle Benton and Keyaira Morgan presenting research they conducted in various areas of science.

On October 9, 2018 SCAMP held its an-nual Undergraduate Research Banquet to commemorate those students who undertook research over the summer. This banquet is a chance to showcase the knowledge and abilities of the SCAMP students to their families, other faculty and staff and College of Charles-ton’s Board of Trustee members. LS-SCAMP Undergraduate Research Symposium, Orangeburg SC

SC Alliance for Minority Participation (SCAMP) hosted their annual Undergraduate Showcase and Research Symposium on Friday, November 9, 2018 at SC State University to celebrate 25th anni-versary of the SCAMP program in South Carolina. In the poster presentations, the competition was among 7 institutions: University of South Carolina, South Carolina State University, Allen University, Claflin University, Benedict College, Voorhees College and College of Charleston. Forty five students from those institutions presented their posters. A group of five College of Charleston Students attended and all placed in their respective categories.

Our members participated in many community activities in the fall.

The Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry is a non-profit organization whose mission is to engage young children’s potential by inviting families of all backgrounds to explore environments and experi-ences that spark imagination and stimulate curiosity through the power of PLAY. SCAMPERs were able to interact with the younger generation and encourage STEM related activities.

The MUSC Urban Farm provides a place where students, faculty, staff, and the Charleston community can come together to learn about the connection between land and food. Our SCAMPers were able to learn about way they can incorporate healthy eating into their lifestyle in an affordable way. They also helped to harvest the produce in the garden all of which is given to local community members to en-courage healthy diets. Students were able to interact with other locals, which is very important to our volunteering values. As always, "it is all about forming a community, not just helping one".
