ScaledBoundaryFiniteElementMethod...........................................................................................................................................OverviewThe coursewill present anoverviewof theprinciples andprocedures that lead to thedevelopmentof the scaledboundaryfinite elementmethod (SBFEM). The SBFEM shares the advantages of the boundary elementmethod (BEM) and the finiteelementmethod(FEM).LiketheFEM,itdoesnotrequirethefundamentalsolutionandliketheBEM,onlytheboundaryofthedomain is discretized. This makes the method an ideal numerical tool especially to solve problems in fracture mechanics,unboundeddomainproblems,wavepropagationtonameafew.Furthermore,thismethodprovidesahighdegreeofflexibilityinautomaticmeshgeneration. In this short course, theessentialsof themethodwillbeprovided toenable the students toappreciatetheadvantagesofthemethodanditspotentialintermsoffurtherresearch,developmentandapplications.
