    esign objective

To check the stability of scaffolding prop and wooden plank member provided for

supporting steel beam 357x171x67. In the present site, steel member resting on wooden

plank 38 mm thicknesses. Wooden plank is resting on scaffolding prop which is placed ed

in 1.2 m c/c in both sides. There are no intermediate props.

    Load Details

    Total dead load of member (356 x 171x67) = 67 kg /m

    Total live load = 1 KN/m

    Total load on member = 0.67 + 1 =1.67 Kn/m

    esign of wooden plank

Density of wooden plank = 600 kg /m3 refer BS 2482:2009

    Self weight of wooden plank = 0.038 x 0.6 = 22.8 kg/m2

    Total load on wooden plank = 1.67 + 0.228 = 1.9 KN/m

    Span of wooden plank = 1.2 m

    Max moment = (1.9 x 1.2^2)/8 =0.342 KNm

Max working moment of resistance of single board = 0.5 KNm refer BS 2482:2009

Max moment 0.342 KNm < allowable moment 0.5 KNm Hence ok.

    esign of scaffolding Prop

    Dia of Pipe =48.9 mm

Total load on scaffolding prop = 1.9 KN/m

    Scaffolding Prop are 1.2 m c/c

    Load on one scaffolding prop = (1.9 x 1.2) /2 = 1.14 KN

Actual leg load = 1.14 KN

As per attached catalog allowable leg load for 2.5 m lift height = 20 KN

Structure is stable .the applied load is less than the leg capacity.

    Technical Specification - Scaffold Boards

    Scaffold Boards

We can manufacture three categories of Scaffold Board:

38x225 BSI 1.2m support centres - these boards are either visually

    or machine graded.

38x225 BSI 1.5m support centres - these boards are only machine graded.

63x225 BSI 2.5m support centres - these boards are either visually

    or machine graded.

    Dimension

When measured at a reference moisture content of 20%:

    38mm thick boards: +/-2mm in thickness and/or

    +/-5mm in width. Length +/- 25mm. 63mm thick boards: +/-3mm in thickness and/or

+/-5mm in width. Length to the system manufacturer

tolerances. Generally 63mm boards need to be

precision end trimmed to suit the system they are to

    be used in.

NOTE: Crosscutting does not affect the structural integrity of the board and

the board will still comply with BS 2482. Visually graded boards all defects

will have already been visually assessed. Machine graded boards the board

will have been mechanically assessed along its length.

Table of Strength Properties from BS 2482:2009

    * i.e. via a r igid building pack. If greater loads, e.g. for loading bays, are required these should be calculated and the suppor t spans reduced.

An applied load acts only on an

    individual board kNm

An applied load is spread uniformly*

across a minimum of 4 boards kNm
