for his debut race at Florida’s Winter Olympics at Gatorback Cycle Park outside of Gainesville.

“American racing is so much more advanced than back in England so my family packed up and headed to America for me to follow my dream,” Coates said.

He started riding a CFR150 and used the Millsaps Training Facility in Georgia as his base. Two years later, Coates had a breakthrough in the Schoolboy Class by winning two titles at the Mini O’s and a motto at the top amateur race at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch in Tennessee.

From that first national race, at a time when he knew no one in America, Coates has built his resume.

“I always dreamed of racing in America. I always wanted to be where the competition was.”

Since turning professional for the 2014 season Coates has been a world traveler.

He’s raced the GP series, competed in Germany, and now competes in the Monster Energy Series on Triggr Racing, #65, competing in the 250cc class.

Coates recently competed last Saturday in Toronto as the series headed north of the boarder and this weekend the series revs up at Daytona International Speedway for it’s annual stop in Florida.

Last week Coates was involved in a frightening crash where he launched off his bike and hit the dirt from about 20 feet. Coates is still sore and bruised but hopes he’s ready to line up on the starting gate Saturday as the race will be televised on Fox Sports.

“Racing is my life and this is my full time job” Coats said.

He is sponsored by Yamaha, FXR Racing, Shoei Helmets, 100% Googles, Seatconcepts, Dunlop tires and Mika metals.

“Hopefully I will be ready to go for Daytona,” Coates said.

Pasco Park. “We are so interested in getting more

children involved and that’s why we opened the boundary to Wiregrass,” said Lions’ director Luis Rivera. “We wanted to get our name out and let the kids meet the coaches. The coaches wanted to get going.”

More than 60 players turned out for the conditioning drills with coaches from the Lions and from Wiregrass Ranch High School.

Cheerleaders received technique instruction from the Pasco High School cheerleaders.

“It’s all about doing great things for the kids,” Rivera said. “That’s who we do it for. It gives them something to do. It’s better to have them here doing sports than out on the streets doing nothing.”

Rivera said the organization would host a few more combines before official 2017 practices begin.
