G. Miter bends may be used when provided in the relevant piping classes or with the COMPANY
approval. Miter segments and thickness shall be suitable to satisfy the calculation rules
provided by ASME B31.3.
H. Up to NPS 1½ (DN 40), elbows according to ASME B16.11 shall be used.
I. Butt-welded elbows shall be long radius type (1½ D), wherever possible. Exceptions shall be
noted on the piping drawings.
J. Integrally reinforced forged branch outlet fittings Design, dimensions and tolerances shall
conform to MSS SP-97.
7.4 Figure 8 Blinds, Paddle Blanks and Spacers
A. Paddle blank and spacer shall be used for NPS 14 (DN 350) and above for CL150, NPS 12
(DN 300) and above for CL300, NPS 10 (DN 250) and above for CL600, NPS 6 (DN 150) and
above for CL900 and above, and where the weight of a figure 8 blind would make its operation
impractical.
B. Figure 8 blinds shall be used for piping NPS 1 (DN 25) through NPS 12 (DN 300) for CL150,
NPS 1 (DN 25) through NPS 10 (DN 250) for CL300, NPS 1 (DN 25) through NPS 8 (DN 200)
of CL600, NPS 1 (DN 25) through NPS 4 (DN 100) of CL900 and above.
C. Figure 8 blinds, Paddle blanks and spacer material shall be in accordance with line piping
class. Blanks and spacers shall have separate handle configuration for identification.
D. Figure 8 blinds, Paddle blanks and spacer dimensions shall be according to ASME 16.48 up to
NPS 24 (DN 600) .
7.5 Branch connections
A. General
(1) The type of branch connection to be used is shown on Attachment 3.
(2) When the type is not defined the branch connection shall be calculated in
accordance with ASME B31.3.
(3) The branch connection should not intersect the longitudinal weld of the run(if
seamed pipe), so coefficient 1 shall be used for calculation.
(4) In all cases, and mainly when strong loads and moments may be applied to thebranch connections, the MANUFACTURER (or the designer) must verify that
stresses are lower than the allowable stress levels defined by the relevant
code.
(5) All branch connections shall be of the "set-in" type.
(6) Branch reinforcing pad dimensions shall be defined according to Project
Standards and ASME B31.3
B. Branch Connections below NPS 2 (DN 50)
