Physical DesCription! Condition!
lntegrity
An intact example of a modernist design of the Bank’s later styles. The bank relates well in scale to the streetscape and has an awning over the footpath. The use of high quality materials and the lack of intrusive aHerations make it a significant contributor to this period of building in the area.
Local
I
The building is a single storey bank in the modernist style. It has a cantilevered awning using a reinforced steel joist with a low concrete parapet. The large windows are framed in steel. A simple steel fence and matching security grills are the only decorative features used. The street front includes a walkway set under the main roof that leads to the rear carpark. The masonry section is constructed of pale brick. The building appears to maintain its original interior layout and furnishings.

Arcllaeloglcal pnlll
The Sawtell Hotel was originally erected as a two storey hotel, probably with a single storey extension. It has been subject to much aReration and additions over the years, including an almost complete alteration of the ground floor interiors. The original staircase remains. The first floor original elevation and detail remains, however the verandah has been filled in on the returns. A later single storey extension was erected on the Second Avenue elevation with aluminium windows and a two storey brick addition was added across the rear of the
hotel. A drive - in bottle shop was added to the western side of the later, rear additions. A TAB of unsympathetic style and proportion has been added to the southern elevation. The integrity of the hotel has been compromised, notwithstanding the front verandah and fa ade giving the building a prominent period appearance. The Sawtell Hotel has the potential to be not only a significant local landmark but a site of
good design and amenity. A smail cream brick shop to the south of the TAB is also included on the title. It has a cantilevered awnin and aluminium sho front.
