Maria Isa Pérez-Hedges is a Boricua (BO-REE-KWA) singer, songwriter, actress, rapper, activist, youth worker and international recording artist born in Minnesota and raised on St. Paul’s West Side barrio. She was raised with the influences of many different rhythms of Afro-Latino-Indigenous culture and channeled it into performing arts and activism at a very early age.

Since 2009 Isa serves as CEO for her independent label SotaRico, distributing over 13 of her projects bridging her music mix and upbringing of Minnesota and Puerto Rican culture into a fusion of sound. Isa received the National Hispana Leadership Institute’s “Rising Latina Star” award for her outstanding work with Youthrive Live! on behalf of working with and educating incarcerated youth throughout the state of Minnesota while hosting several Nobel Peace Prize laureates. Maria Isa has performed alongside and opened for artists such as The Roots, Bad Bunny, Common, Moby, Bomba Estereo, Sheila E, Kendrick Lamar, Las Cafeteras, Ana Tijoux, La India, Wu Tang Clan and many more. Her upcoming album “Sasa” is set to be released this fall as a project influenced and dedicated to her mother, women of color in politics and the future leaders of the world.

Maria Isa Pérez-Hedges es una cantante, compositora, actriz, rapera, activista, trabajadora juvenil y artista de grabación internacional boricua nacida en Minnesota y criada en el barrio West Side de St. Paul. Fue criada con las influencias de muchos ritmos diferentes de la cultura afro-latina-indígena y la canalizó en artes escénicas y activismo desde una edad muy temprana. Maintaining a healthy balance while parenting can be very difficult. In this session you will learn strategies to maintain your “sanity” during parenthood. Participants will learn about how to focus on real self-care and healthy boundaries when time and resources are limited.

Our experiences during childhood can impact how we parent our own children. Stressful and traumatic situations can increase the difficulty of navigating the many daily challenges we face as parents. Join us as we reflect on how our past experiences can impact our relationships with our children and explore how we can make steps to move ourselves and our families forward.

Being a parent is extremely rewarding, but also challenging. As caregivers it is important to understand that it is okay to feel tired, overwhelmed and stressed. Come learn new techniques for how to manage your time and keep yourself prepared in an interactive environment. In this workshop you will learn about time management, organization and prioritizing a healthy schedule.

This workshop will give parents the tools and resources to support their children’s education and help them work toward building their future. Participants will also gain new insight on how they can utilize existing programs to find and support their children’s real interests.

Ser padre es extremadamente gratificante, pero también muy difícil. Como cuidadores es importante saber que está bien sentirse cansado, agobiado y estresado. We will also discuss how parents can help and support this process: from the application process to completing their degree.

Did you know your child’s grade point average (GPA) will partially determine what colleges they are eligible to apply for? This session will focus on understanding GPAs, why they are so important and how they work. We will review average GPAs for various colleges, so you can assist your child in setting GPA goals.

In this workshop participants will learn how to better navigate the realities of the educational system in this country, how it impacts their children at any age, and how their deeper understanding can help make their voices louder and clearer. Come join the conversation as we learn how to become better advocates for our children’s future.
