Matthew 2:1-2 1“When Jesus was born in the village of Bethlehem in Judea, Herod was king. During this time some wise men from the east came to Jerusalem 2and said, “Where is the Child born to be King of the Jews? We saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him.” (CEV) Matthew 2:10-11a 10“When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. 11On coming to the house, they saw the Child with His mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped Him.” (NIV)
1. You Can Bow Before Him In Desperation |
Psalm 95:6-7 6Come, let us worship and bow down. Let us kneel before the Lord our maker, 7for He is our God. We are the people He watches over, the flock under His care. If only you would listen to His voice today!” (NLT) Mark 1:40-42 40“A man with leprosy came and knelt in front of Jesus, begging to be healed. ‘If you are willing, you can heal me and make me clean,’ he said. 41Moved with compassion, Jesus reached out and touched him. ‘I am willing,’ he said. ‘Be healed!’ 42Instantly the leprosy disappeared, and the man was healed.” (NLT) Mark 10:17 “As Jesus was starting out on His way to Jerusalem, a man came running up to Him, knelt down, and asked, ‘Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?’” (NLT)
2. You Can Bow Before Him In Prayer |
1 Kings 8:54 “When Solomon finished making these prayers and petitions to the Lord, he stood up in front of the altar of the Lord, where he had been kneeling with his hands raised toward heaven.” (NLT)
1 Kings 18:42b “Elijah climbed to the top of Mount Carmel and bowed low to the ground and prayed with his face between his knees.” (NLT) Luke 5;8 “When Simon Peter realized what had happened, he fell to his knees before Jesus and said, ‘Oh, Lord, please leave me - I’m too much of a sinner to be around you.’” (NLT) Luke 22:39-42 39“Then, accompanied by the disciples, Jesus left the upstairs room and went as usual to the Mount of Olives. 40There He told them, ‘Pray that you will not give in to temptation.’ 41He walked away, about a stone’s throw, and knelt down and prayed, 42‘Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from Me. Yet I want Your will to be done, Not mine.’” (NLT)

You Can Bow Before Him In Worship | Matthew 2:10-11a 10“When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. 11On coming to the house, they saw the Child with His mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped Him.” (NIV) Leviticus 26:1 “Do not make idols or set up an image...and do not place a carved stone in your land to bow down before it. I am the Lord your God.” (NIV) Job 1:20 “At this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship...” (NIV) Philippians 2:9-11 9“God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (NLT)

Matthew 2:10-11a 10“When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. 11On coming to the house, they saw the Child with His mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped Him.” (NIV) One of the most humble and respectful ways that the wise men worshiped Jesus was when they, as grown men, bowed their knees before a two year old child.

If only you would listen to His voice today!” (NLT) Bowing can be a sign that we are pursuing the Lord for His direction for our lives.
Mark 1:40-42 40“A man with leprosy came and knelt in front of Jesus, begging to be healed. ‘If you are willing, you can heal me and make me clean,’ he said. 41Moved with compassion, Jesus reached out and touched him. ‘I am willing,’ he said. ‘Be healed!’ 42Instantly the leprosy disappeared, and the man was healed.” (NLT) Desperation can lead us to pursue Jesus after trying everything and everyone else.

Mark 10:17 “As Jesus was starting out on His way to Jerusalem, a man came running up to Him, knelt down, and asked, ‘Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?’” (NLT) Your pursuit of answers to life’s questions should lead you right to Jesus.
Shell Osbon: “When life gives you more than you can stand then that’s a great time to kneel.”

2. You Can Bow Before
Him In Prayer
1 Kings 8:54 “When Solomon finished making these prayers and petitions to the Lord, he stood up in front of the altar of the Lord, where he had been kneeling with his hands raised toward heaven.” (NLT) Solomon dedicated the Temple he built for the Lord as he bowed before Him in prayer.

1 Kings 18:42b “Elijah climbed to the top of Mount Carmel and bowed low to the ground and prayed with his face between his knees.” (NLT) Elijah bowed in prayer asking God to provide rain to end a three year drought.
Luke 5:8 “When Simon Peter realized what had happened, he fell to his knees before Jesus and said, ‘Oh, Lord, please leave me - I’m too much of a sinner to be around you.’” (NLT) Peter bowed in prayer after realizing that he was a sinner who needed forgiveness

Jesus bowed in prayer asking for God to help Him accept God’s will for His life.

Him In Worship
Matthew 2:10-11a 10“When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. 11On coming to the house, they saw the Child with His mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped Him.” (NIV) The wise men bowed as an outward sign of their heartfelt desire to worship the Lord.

Leviticus 26:1 “Do not make idols or set up an image...and do not place a carved stone in your land to bow down before it. I am the Lord your God.” (NIV) God never requires us to bow before Him but He does ask us not to bow before any other gods.
Job 1:20 “At this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship...” (NIV) Job was devastated and his first response was to bow before the Lord in worship.

One day everyone everywhere will bow before the Lord in worship confessing
that He is Lord!
