kidszone

It wouldn’t be a festival without something special for our young visitors, and Summer Shade has got that covered. In the Kids Zone, presented by Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta- Hughes Spalding, kids can roll up their sleeves to complete a art print with Atlanta Printmakers Studio, learn about flight with Southern Area Rocketry, and participate in plenty of hands-on cra activities, all of which are completely free!

Even our littlest festival-goers can experience the sensory tables and make spin art creations at the Grant Park Parents Network tent. Families are also able to purchase tickets or a wristband to catch air on the Monkey Motion Jump, zoom down the giant slide or play in the Topplin' Tots activity zone. Everyone should try to catch the aerial dance performance by Earth to Sky on Sunday aernoon.

food vendorsThis year we've yet again stepped up our food game and are oering quite an expansive variety of cuisine. Don't worry, we aren't getting rid of traditional festival fare like corn dogs and funnel cakes, but we are excited to oer healthier options like veggie paninis and superfood smoothies. You will be able to choose from a multitude of food vendors serving up everything from hawaiian noodles and liquid nitrogen ice cream to Cajun chicken eggrolls and French crêpes. Whatever you’re craving and whatever your budget, you’ll be able to find something to satisfy your hunger.

We’re thrilled that the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition will host a bike valet during the festival again this year. This means you can go green, ride to the festival and easily park for free at the Bike Valet. NEW LOCATION THIS YEAR! You’ll find it just inside the park next to the Milledge Fountain at the intersection of Milledge Ave and Cherokee Ave.

Grant Park is not just a neighborhood surrounding a park of the same name; it is a community. As such, the Summer Shade Festival welcomes numerous Community Partners to exhibit at the festival. We hope that in between listening to some live music, grabbing a beer, and perusing our Artist Market you will take the opportunity to talk with our community partners and learn how they are helping to make Grant Park such a wonderful place.

Parking is complimentary, but donations to the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition will be accepted to support the organization’s mission to create a healthier, more sustainable Atlanta by making it safer, easier and more attractive to bicycle for fun, fitness and transportation.

The Grant Park Conservancy (GPC) is a non-profit, membership-based organization. We are committed to the restoration, beautification and maintenance of historic Grant Park, Atlanta’s fourth largest park. GPC is funded entirely by donations. As such, we cannot make an impact in the park without your help! There are several ways you can get involved: Find us online at www.gpconservancy.org and click on “Donate.” Become a member at any level, purchase a commemorative brick for a loved one, or simply donate to the Conservancy. Visit our Farmers Market every Sunday from 9:00am until 1:00pm from April through December at Milledge Fountain and support local farmers and craspeople. While membership is key to our success, we also need volunteers to help us with projects throughout the year. You can help by volunteering for projects such as mulching, planting, woodland restoration, trash removal and more. If you are interested in volunteering with the GPC, send an email to [email protected]. Our current projects include the Milledge Triangle Initiative, upgrading the picnic areas throughout the park, focusing on woodland restoration and the park’s special tree canopy, and installing new trash cans to help fight litter. The Milledge Triangle Initiative is our most ambitious project to date, with a project budget of over $550,000. The Milledge Triangle is the area of Grant Park surrounding the Milledge Fountain at the intersection of Milledge Street and Cherokee Avenue. The Milledge Triangle is one of the most visited points in Grant Park. However, due to long-term neglect and lack of funds, the Milledge Fountain, as well as its surrounding features and greenspace, have fallen into significant disrepair. The Milledge Triangle Initiative will rejuvenate this key historic gateway – preserving and restoring its historic origins while simultaneously creating a beautiful place where park visitors can gather. But, we cannot make this project happen without the support of the community and our members! The Conservancy relies on your memberships, donations and participation to continue our mission. Visit our booth, and we’ll sign you up as a member today. You can purchase Summer Shade and GPC T- shirts, with all proceeds going to the Conservancy for park improvements. Please consider becoming a member and supporting the Conservancy today!
