We have been on a journey to understand the doctrine of grace. What would we look like if we treated sin and the sinner like Jesus did? What would we

look like if our church became a “Grace Place?” The first two months we looked at the themes of Sin: Everyone’s Predicament and God’s Response of Grace.

In the month of April, we will focus our attention on “The Church as The Grace Place.” We will hear from God’s word on the following themes:

April 7 A One and Done Church: Judgment versus Discernment

April 14 The Christ-like Principle of Accountability April 21 Forgiving like Jesus

April 28 The Grace Place Church

Can you fathom the way that God would use us if we were transformed

into a “Grace Place?” We would understand better what He calls us to be as His church! It is important that we practice grace toward sin and the sinner.

Many have commented that we are receiving a special visitation of the Spirit during our worship. The Spirit is

willing to work in our worship, but too often we are not ready to receive His work. We must come ready to

worship with hearts open to His leading and teaching. Ultimately we must respond to His teaching and conviction. The Spirit testifies to Jesus and the Word. The Spirit is not with us and in us to inform us but to

transform us.

Please join me in praying for the last month of this sermon series. The message of God’s grace is good news for

you and for us! Bring someone that needs peace, hope, and comfort so they can hear God speak through His Word, prayer, people and circumstances.

Care and Involvement Ministry

What are your expectations for care for your extended family? We have a longstanding principle that we pro-

vide care and support during death, hospital and crisis for the following family members: husband/wife, son/daughter, and mother/father.

We have not provided care “as a church” for brother/sister or grandfather/grandmother. Individual small groups and friends can choose to do that on their own. It would be practically impossible to provide care for

the hundreds of brothers and sisters.

I say this for you to know and understand the logistics of our care ministry. We desire to provide care for ALL

of our church family. However, we can only provide extended care ministry for your husband/wife, son/daughter and mother/father. Generally, these are the expectations by which we plan care ministry.

I’m A Christian Now! Discipleship Class

Begins Sunday, April 14 at 5:30pm

Did you know that research underscores the importance of families, not churches, taking the lead in the spiritual development of children? In situations where children became mature Christians there is usually found a beneficial partnership between their parents and their church. The goal of the Kid Connection ministry is to encourage you as parents to prioritize the spiritual develop-ment of your children and to equip you for that challenge. Successful parents raise their children in the context of a faith-based community that provides security, belonging, spiritual and moral education, and accountability. Neither the parents nor the church can do it alone. With that in mind, every opportunity mentioned here is designed to give you as a parent the opportunity to partici-pate with your child. These are chances to build a relationship between yourself and your child, your church and Jesus.

“I’m a Christian Now” is a four-week class to follow up with kids who have made a profession of faith in Christ. It is also avail-able for kids and their parents who have been asking questions about becoming a Christian. We will discuss such topics as:

How Is My Life Different Since Becoming a Christian?

How Do I Hear God Speak to Me?

How Do I Follow God’s Plan for My Life?

How Do I Use My Talents and Abilities to Serve God?

What Happens When I Sin Again?

What Is Worship? When and How Should I Worship?

What Is an Offering? Why Should I Tithe?

How Do I Stand Up for What I Believe?

What About People Who Believe Different Things?

How Do I Tell My Friends About Jesus? Please register at the Welcome Center by April 7th.

Parent Dedication

We are excited to partner with parents as you celebrate new life. We want to come alongside you with encouragement and partner with you as you begin the journey with your precious little one. Registration is at the Welcome Center.

Family Dedication is a four-step process: Step 1 Learn—Attend the orientation class April 21

st at 4:30pm to prepare for the ceremony. At this class you'll also connect with

other parents in our church who are beginning this journey with you. Dinner will be provided and childcare is available upon reservation.

Step 2 Prepare—We will begin preparing a special family memory book for your child’s faith journey. You may ask grandparents and other family members to give input for this book.

Step 3 Celebrate—Participate in the Family Dedication ceremony on Sunday May 12th. This is your opportunity to commit before God and the congregation that you will raise your children according to God's standards.

Step 4 Connect—Join a group with other parents in our church to give and get support. We'll discuss several options during the orientation class.

SUNDAY SCHOOL

You may be saying to yourself, if Sunday school is like regular school, then it is for kids and youth. It is not for me. You may think or say, “I don’t need that as an adult”. Sounds logical, but it is far from being true. Sunday school is designed to connect people through Bible study groups as they live and share the gospel. It is about opening your heart and life to the truth of God’s Word and dealing positively with all the pressure points of life. As someone has said…. Sunday School is “doing life together!” Sunday school at Simpsonville Baptist is designed to do just that. It is taking God’s Word, sharing it with one another and exploring how it meets all your needs in life. From the youngest preschooler to the most seasoned adult, there is a class where you can study God’s Word, learn to minister to others and develop friendships that can last a lifetime. These are some things to ponder. If you are not attending a Sunday School/Bible Study class, ask yourself: Would these benefit my life?

To study God’s word for understanding and personal growth (Discipleship)

To learn to apply Biblical principles for everyday living for myself and to extend these to family, friends and others.

To develop friendship with fellow believers for the purpose of support, ministry and evangelism.

A few reasons people do not attend a Bible study class are listed below. If you teach or attend a Sunday School/Bible Study class, ask yourself this question: How can I be used to overcome these excuses?

Scheduled time for Bible Study does not fit with personal schedule.

Do not know where to meet for Sunday School/Bible Study. Do not know anyone in the class. Fear of the unknown…… Expectation of participation. Will I

be accepted? Bad past experiences in a Sunday School/Bible Study class. Do not understand the purpose or benefit of attending a

Sunday School/Bible Study class. Never have been personally invited to a Sunday School/Bible

study class. A lack of understanding of the Bible… what it might say to

me? Sunday School……. Is it a big deal? The answer is YES! It is the Church organized to reach people for Christ. It is the Church organized for people to grow spiritually. It is the Church organized to minister to each other and to the world. Should you be involved? YES, you should. It is one of the best ways to grow in your relationship to Christ, which, by the way, is a very BIG DEAL! Eddie Clay

Sunday School-What’s the big deal? Sunday School/Bible Study/Life Group/Small Group, whatever it is that you may have heard it called, what is the big deal about having it anyway? Sunday School sounds like……..well, school.

Page 6: Saturday, April 13 - Clover Sitesstorage.cloversites.com/simpsonvillebaptistchurch...10 Ozzie Bradley, Ryan Marchessault, Angela French 11 Ryan Jones, Hannah Boyd, Martha Delarosa,

Thanks to everyone who participated with the Praise Choir’s presentation of the Palm Sunday Grace musical! We were able to

worship together as we thanked God for His amazing grace in our lives, and we were presented with the challenge to be grace-

ful people, a grace-filled church.

If you hear stories or have your own to share about receiving or giving grace, please share them with me or with a staff mem-

ber; those are the kinds of things that we need to spread around the family! The stories of grace are neverending and always

humbling.

One of our new choir members, Evan Boswell, has also joined Team C of our vocalists for Sunday

morning. If you were here on Palm Sunday, you heard him in the song “Redeemed.” He is a recent

graduate of Murray with a music degree, hoping to get a job teaching music at an elementary school. If

you see him and his wife Ashley, make sure you welcome them to SBC.

We have an incredible group of people singing in our praise choir, and many new people are joining us

all the time. We will be taking a short break after Easter and then beginning again this spring. Please

come and be a part of this group! You will not regret it!

As spring is now here (even with the snow!), we are seeing mission opportunities pop up in various ways and places.

The Missions Team has been working and praying about an international trip and you’ll be hearing more about that as the year

progresses. The student ministry will be heading to Tegucigalpa, Honduras, and also to Arlington, Texas during the summer. We

will have a church-wide mission trip to eastern Kentucky as we have done for several years and be working with ministries in

the Lynch/Cumberland area.

We’ll also have some church-wide Serve60 opportunities promoted in the spring, which is a wonderful continuing culmination

of how the church has carried on with serving in the community since we began these kinds of projects a few years ago. I’m

excited to think how we can make a difference in Shelby county and beyond as we look for ways to meet needs and share

Christ with the community around us.

The Touched Twice clinic is April 13th in Shelbyville at First Baptist, and I would love to see many in our church participate and

help through being there, donations, prayer, being a shepherd for the people coming, etc. They still need many volunteers for

the clinic. One option is to be a shepherd who would guide a person or a family around the clinic to the places they need to

visit. It’s an easy way to be a servant and it gives you a chance to be in someone’s life even for a short while. Contact

shelbytouchedtwice.com for more information.

I want to highlight something new that has come about in the life of our church and in Shelby

county. You may have met Phil and Darlene Noble who have recently taken leadership for our

local ministry focus, but if you have not, let me encourage you to seek them out and introduce

yourself. They were members here many years ago before work took them away from Kentucky,

but now that they are back, they have jumped in with passion and abandon. Working with our

Mission Leadership Team and with other leaders from Shelby county churches and ministries, they

have helped to create Shelby County Missions.

Shelby County Missions (SCM) is a partnership among Christians in Shelby county who represent area churches and agencies,

such as Operation Care and A Loving Choice. SCM will provide an online assistance for people wanting to know about local min-

istries, events that are going on in our county, where to find assistance for certain things, etc. Being connected and having

knowledge about what is available is one of the best ways for us to help each other show the Kingdom of God to the people in

Shelby county. The website is in its infant stages, but you can see more about it at www.shelbycountymissions.com. If you

would like to help with this ministry connection, you can contact Darlene at [email protected]. Matt Garner

Our Dinner for Six + 2 ministry had a successful start. We have three groups currently meeting and room for more. If you would like to be included in this ministry, please sign up at the Welcome Center.

What is the purpose? To encourage fellowship in our church family.

How does it work? The ministry brings three couples (church families) to-gether to create the “6.” Each month (within a quarter) a different couple will host the dinner. The host couple will invite another couple (church

guests) to establish the “+2”. The “+2” should be a different family each month. Each quarter the three couples will change to allow the opportunity to build relationships with more families. Each couple will only host one time each quarter.

How long does the ministry last? When you sign up, you are committing to one quarter (3 months). Once involved, at the end of each quarter, Denise Miller will contact you to see if you want to continue on with the ministry.

Do I have to prepare a meal or can we all go to a restaurant? The host home for the month makes the decision on where the meal will take place and who to invite as the extra couple.

Can we participate if we are a family with children? Yes, the host family decides if the fellowship will include children or just adults. Many of the host homes have children themselves and include the children to create friendships within their age group.

How are singles involved? 1) We encourage single families to become host homes and create a group of three other singles. The premise works the same, but the invitations would include 1-2 other singles.

2) Singles (with or without children) can also be invited as additional guests for the host couple.

If you would like to participate as a host home, please sign up at the Welcome Center. Please contact Denise Miller at 722-5246 ext 10 with questions.

FAMILY MINISTRY

BEGINS Wednesday, April 10

6:15pm

This 4 week workshop will be facilitated and led by our own Mike Waterman.

Mike is retired with a Masters Degree in Marriage & Family Counseling.

STEWARDSHIP

I am suggesting four more ways that might encourage us to do more

in the area of stewardship.

Last month, I suggested that people must see a need. Some people need a vision or actual perceived need to give. Most of us are motivated to give because a need is clearly presented. There are real needs at Simpsonville Baptist Church!

2. Members will sincerely believe in the VISION. People usually want to be a part of something bigger than themselves, and a well defined vision often inspires people to give. Moving testimonies of real life changes can make the need for giving obvious for an effective ministry. What is your vision?

3. Christians have a relationship with other Christians. Whether it's the pastor, a small group leader or a caring friend, effective relationships will help many people become a more active church member. Make that connection with a classmate or someone you meet in the service. We are all brothers and sisters in Christ's chosen family.

4. You have been taught how to do it. Everyone does not think the same thing about tithing or giving to the church. Culture, family habits, reading the old and new testament differences in giving all have an effect on what we believe. You've got to listen to the Word of God and educate yourself about what God's will is for our gifts back to Him.

5. We all should want to obey God's Word. Sermons on stewardship and telling stories are great, but don't forget to read the Scripture. Jesus had a lot to say on the subject of money. Read all you can about what Jesus, Paul and Proverbs say about money. Make sure that you use your gifts effectively for God's glory. Charlie Wallace

April Serve60 opportunities In April and October, we want to challenge our Sunday School classes, student ministry, children’s ministry and other small groups to plan a ministry event along Highway 60. We want to leave God’s fingerprints all over Shelby county. You have asked for local mission/ministry opportunities and we are glad to give the opportunity. If everyone participates, we should have 15-20 different ministry events in April.

Most of the county’s community ministry(s) are on-going and have a defined plan. Open Door of Hope, ALC Preg-nancy Center, Operation Care and Colonial Hall receive consistent help and support from our church. Please review the following ministry ideas and maybe they will prompt something for your small group or Sunday School class to do in April. The question we would like for you to entertain is “How can we do a ministry event that causes us to directly

interact with people?”

their life in moderation. (Vs. 9) Deacon possesses knowledge and practice of God’s word and faith. (Vs. 10) Deacon is proven in faith and service over time. (Vs. 11) Simpsonville Baptist Church has allowed for differences in translations in the Greek language of this passage

and the history of the Church to include women as deacons. Paul’s original word in the Greek is gunē, which has a

primary meaning of “woman.” Some translations, including the 2011 NIV use “women” here instead of “wives,” since the lat-ter is seen as interpretive.

(Vs. 12) An issue of multiple wives would be an issue of self-control. It was unheard of in their culture for a woman to have multiple husbands. Deacons must manage their marriage, children and home well.

(Vs. 13) Deacon is actively growing in faith and service for our Lord in church and community

Church Requirement: Regular Sunday School and Worship attendance Church member for one year Financial growth in giving

must have served one year as a yokefellow. Yokefellows can be nominated according to the above biblical and

church requirements. You will find below a list of ordained deacons within our church.

Because a person is on the list doesn’t mean they meet the biblical or church requirements.

You may not nominate your own family members. Turn in your nomination form to a staff member or in the offering plate. Nomination forms are available at the Welcome Center.

ment is for. In case you forgot, while in Texas, we will be doing the following: Backyard Bible clubs, work pro-jects, VIP tour of the Dallas cowboys stadium, Six Flags, Texas Rangers baseball game with an all-you-can-eat

buffet, and Babe’s Chicken Dinner House. The total cost for the Texas mission trip is $300. Fundraising oppor-

tunities will be coming soon, aside from the Kroger cards!

Spring Break Crazy Days Spring break is April 1 - 5, and we will take two of those days to have a crazy fun time with all of our students. On Tuesday, April 2, we will be hanging around Louisville; we will leave the church around 1 pm, go eat lunch,

and then go have some fun at SKYZONE. Everyone attending this event will need to fill out a release form which can be found on our website under SKYZONE release form. This day will only cost $10 plus your lunch.

On Thursday, April 4, we will go to a Cincinnati Reds baseball game. We will leave the church around 9 am

and return around 6 pm. Jon Caranna

College Ready Retreat We took 13 of our high school seniors and 4 adults on a retreat to Wooded Glen, in Henryville, IN. This weekend was focused on making them “College Ready!” We had small group Bible study, awesome food, and worship. Please pray for our seniors as they continue to prepare for their next step in life.
