I am more excited about the upcoming sermon series than any other I've ever preached! The ser-

mon series teaches us about everyone's predicament of sin, God's responses of grace and the church's call and life as "The Grace Place." The messages could be life-transforming and church

awakening, not because I wrote them but because they are God's eternal truths. If you as an individual or we as a church embrace these truths by living them, then God will be glorified and we will be blessed.

I ask you to preview the sermon series below and pray for our worship for the next three months. I pray you will invite and challenge your friends and family to come worship with us for this series. They will be inspired

by testimonies, music, and His life teaching.

God our Father, help each of us to understand our predicament of sin and what that does to us. We are right with you as we confess our sin before Your holiness. Would You help us to be true recipients of Your grace,

reflecting the change of our becoming more like Jesus? Because of Your grace, will You cause us to be a people of grace? Would You change our collective hearts to become a "Grace Place?"

Pictorial Directories Update

We have had some challenges

managing the new software in

regards to the pictorial directories.

Although it has been a learning

process we are ready to print the

directories. A few things to note:

As part of the church family you can

print your own directory through the

CCB site.

Directories will be given first to those

who do not have access to a computer.

Directories will be printed quarterly to

allow new guests and attenders to be

added.

You can add or change your photo at

any time through the CCB site.

Pictorial directories will include

personal contact information at the

end. Both directories are based on the

church family who currently worship

with us. This is not a church

membership directory and will not

include absentee or inactive members.

We congratulate the Mike Moore family on the successful adoption of Robbie & Josh!!! “… and anyone who welcomes a little child like this on my behalf is welcoming me.”

We had a wonderful Christmas season in 2012, beginning with Dinner Theater which had an impressive number of chil-dren and adults involved this year. It was a wonderful experience overall, with a large number of guests coming to have a good time, eat some great food, and hear the gospel. We also had the largest choir that I’ve seen since I’ve been here, filled with wonderful people! It was incredible! Many thanks to all of those people who helped put it together and serve!

The choir took a break for a while after the heavy commitment of dinner theater, but we resumed this month and are getting ready to usher in the Easter season with a Palm Sunday musical called “Grace: More Than We Deserve, Greater Than We Imagine.” I pray that grace permeates this place and us as His church.

The Missions Leadership Team has been working to discern where we, as a church, should focus our missions efforts in 2013, and now that the holidays are behind us, we will be meeting again to secure dates that we can release to the church. We know that our Student Minister Jon and the student ministry will be taking a group to Tegucigalpa, Hondu-ras in the summer, and we will be doing some work in eastern Kentucky as well as locally in the Shelby county area.

More details about international trips will be forthcoming.

We also want to increase our involvement with Disaster Relief with the KBC. Ken Hyde and others have had a huge presence with this group over the years and as we continue to have disasters all over the country in one way or another, we would love to have people trained to go and be agents of love and assistance wherever needed. You’ll see more in-formation about this as we finalize training dates.

With Phil and Darlene Noble onboard with our local missions leadership, we are hoping to see SBC reach out in 2013 in ways we have not before. We plan to meet with the leadership of local ministries as well as leadership from other churches in our area to discern how we can better work together to minister to people and get the gospel out there. There are many people in our area who need the gospel and a touch of grace, and we’ve been commissioned to be the takers

and the goers. Let’s make 2013 a year to remember and celebrate! Matt Garner

Adult Choir We are preparing for our Palm Sunday presentation with the

Max Lucado-inspired musical Grace, More Than We Deserve, Greater Than We Imagine. If you enjoy making a joyful noise, please consider

joining us! We meet every Wednesday at 6:15pm in the Fellowship Hall.

CARE & INVOLVEMENT MINISTRY How does our Care & Involvement Ministry work to close the “back door” of the church? By getting people involved in the life and ministry of the church family. We have seen that happen with the huge success of the Ladies Night Out ministry. As of January 21 we had 33 women signed up to simply enjoy a meal together. What’s important is that these women are a mix of regular members, new guests, new members and some who have never participated in any other church event. Just one hour spent in fellowship with one another could open the doors to many new strong relationships. Carrie Vail leads this ministry. Current plans are to meet quarterly so keep you eyes open for our April outing!

Our Discipleship classes this year have been the best attended ever in the life of the church! Why? Because people invited their friends to learn with them!! Studying together and sharing what God has done and is doing in your lives breaks down the walls we put up to make us look better than we actually are. Discipleship brings an openness and honesty to these small group classes because participants begin to feel a closeness to one another.

You are doing a great job ministering to one another in these avenues! The challenge now is to do the same in our Sunday School classes. I invite you to share the praise that we have a total of 82 people enrolled in this semester’s classes.

MISSIONS

I want to share with my church family how God has been working in my life and ask for your prayers con-cerning His call on my life. I am sure many of you know about my great love for missions and my heart for the people of Honduras. During a mission trip in April last year working for World Gospel Outreach, I was offered a position working as a counselor at the orphanage.

This would be a full-time permanent position. It would entail me giving up my home, my car, my job and life as I know it to serve the Lord in a position that is not paid but is supported by a stipend from sponsors who share in your vision to serve the Lord. I have been praying for several months and in the last month it seems that God is indeed opening doors for me in this direction. My first interview with the Director of the orphanage by phone went very well; she feels I am an excellent candidate and is recommending me for the position. If all goes well with the application process, I will go to Honduras for a second interview and to see what the job entails in a hands-on setting. The final step upon returning home is to pray for one week. Since this decision is life-altering this could be the most important week of my life thus far.

Lots of people, including my family, can't understand why I would be willing to give up everything I have worked for to go serve at an orphanage on a remote mountain in Honduras. My answer is simple: because Christ said so! He teaches to let go of self, that it is not about you, your family or your possessions but about serving Him. It is the duty of every follower to be the hands and feet of Christ on the mission field but some just feel it more than others. I am one of those. I would rather have nothing and have Jesus and serve Him in a mighty way than any of the comforts or possessions of this life. He is not asking of me any more than that of the original 12 disciples and it is His command for all followers to share the gospel. Rejoice with me, pray with me and I pray for your support. In Christ, Melissa Brendemuehl

DID YOU KNOW? Our Serve 60 Mission Team is now led by Phil & Darlene Noble. The Nobles recently returned to Simpsonville following Phil’s retirement in the Secret Service. One of their first goals is to help create a website that can be used by all Shelby County ministries and churches to monitor the many requests made by those in need. This site will enable all ministries to work together to meet those needs rather than each one providing help separately. We will be working with a variety of agencies: OPERATION CARE—This ministry provides a clothing closet, food pantry, women’s shelter, and emergency funds for Shelby County residents facing difficult times. OPEN DOOR OF HOPE—This ministry provides emergency shelter to men. It also offer programs to help men return to work, find housing and begin to support themselves once more. THE HAVEN— This is a new ministry to Shelby County women entrapped in the sex-slave industry. Is is sur-prising to know that Shelby County has hundreds of women who are being forced into prostitution? In the early stages this ministry is providing love, care and support to these women through meals and small gifts of flowers. Long-range goals include purchasing a home to provide emergency care for those who make the final step and overcome the fear that prevents them from escaping from this enforced life-style. Please be in prayer for founder and director, Angela Wisley, as she works to develop support from the community. Please also pray for Jo Baker and Melissa Brendemuehl who have joined the ministry team.

Does it seem possible that

entire Shelby County

families are living in their

vehicles?

It’s real.

AND you can help.

When disaster strikes, some of the first

to respond to help are Southern Baptist

disaster relief volunteers. Kentucky vol-

unteers can staff feeding units designed

helping families remove mud from

flooded homes and provide many other

disaster relief services.

DID YOU KNOW?

Bob Perkins is representing the Kentucky Baptist Convention Disaster Relief in a vision and prayer mis-

sion trip to Sub-Saharan Africa. The team of five men will meet with Southern Baptist missionaries and

national leaders in four or five countries to plan for ministry and relief when "secondary level" natural

disasters occur, such as earthquakes, floods, famines etc. A strong facet of this ministry plan would be

to train Christian nationals to respond and minister to their own countrymen. Please pray for Bob and

the team as they provide vision, leadership, and training to involve Kentucky Baptists in missions.

Attention High School Seniors: College Ready Retreat We will be taking our high school seniors on a retreat to Wooded Glen, in Henryville, IN. This weekend will be focused on making you, “College Ready!” We will have small group Bible study, awesome food, and some team building games. This retreat will cost $50. The date of the trip is March 1-2. You will need to sign up and pay by February 10. You can go to Woodedglen.com to see the facilities.

True Love Waits: Over the next five weeks, our student ministry will be focusing on teaching our students

how to live a life of purity. We will use a True Love Waits curriculum that will help us tackle this pressing topic in the lives of our students. On February 24, we will end this study with a commitment time in the morning service. This will be a special time where our students can make a public commitment to live a life of purity before their friends, parents, and church family. We will also have a time for the parents and church to com-mit to supporting them. Please pray for our students as they take this Biblical journey over the next five weeks, and for the rest of their lives.

A HUGE D-Now Thank you! We had a very successful weekend thanks to some awesome parents, college students, and other volunteers. This weekend consisted of over 140 people being involved. We had seven host homes that housed the 77 students involved in the week-end. We fed people pulled pork, baked spaghetti, hamburgers and hot dogs, sausage biscuits, sticky biscuits, and countless desserts provided by many people throughout the church. We took 97 people to Perfect North on two school buses and

our church van. Our students spent over ten hours of this weekend in worship and small group Bible study. This weekend was so much more than some teenagers coming together to have fun and hang out. It was about seeking the Lord and ask-ing him for the boldness to “Follow Him.” The weekend would not have been possible without the help of countless adults who drove, took pictures, fed, brought desserts, served food, laughed, set up tables and chairs, decorated, cried, worshipped, painted, bought snacks, cooked, washed dishes, hung out, played games, printed things, registered kids, sorted t-shirts, printed checks, let people invade their home, vacuumed, took out trash, and so much more. I am so thank-ful to serve with adults that “get it.” They understand what it takes to see teenagers come to Christ. They understand that it takes a tribe to raise these children, not just one or two people. So if you helped out in any way this weekend, I want to say THANK YOU! Thank you for serving these students and investing in the Kingdom. God is up to something BIG! Jon Caranna
