Uralla Shire Community Grants Program - applications opening 1st March 2016

In July 2015, Council adopted a new Community Grants program that is available to community groups and organisations to apply for funding to undertake projects/events which benefit the wider Uralla community, depending upon availability of funds and the merit of project proposals - Non-recurrent grants of up to $3,000 and/or in-kind support are available.

In addition Individual Grants are also available to residents of Uralla Shire to pursue achievements in their chosen area of expertise; this may include, but is not limited to significant sports and recreation, arts and culture and academic endeavours - non-recurrent grants of up to $300.

For the 2015-16 financial year, Round 2 applications will open on 1 March 2016 and close 31 March 2016. Grant guidelines and application forms are available for download from Council’s website www.uralla.nsw.gov.au

Easter Parade of Things to See and Do Easter is fast approaching and it’s time to plan what to see and do in and around Uralla and the surrounding shire. With friends and relatives arriving, this is the time to explore nearby villages and locations such as Bundarra, Kentucky, Gostwyck Chapel, Deeargee Woolshed, Mt Yarrowyck, Invergowrie and Kingstown.

In Uralla there’s the popular Heritage Walk coupled with a handy guide booklet available from the Visitor Information Centre. Other mapped walks include Uralla Creek from Porter Park to Alma Park, and a walk around Mount Mutton. Marvel at Uralla’s history and Uralla’s gold rush in the 1850s along with tales of Australia’s last bushranger, Captain Thunderbolt, all at McCrossin’s Mill Museum, Salisbury Street. Open 10:00am-5:00pm daily.

Uralla Visitor Information Centre is open Mon-Fri (except Good Friday) 9:30am-4:30pm and Sat/Sun/public holidays 10:00am-3:00pm. Ph: 6778 6420.

Library activities - March

Which came first, the chicken or the egg? Visit Uralla Library throughout March to discover a variety of resources and information about chickens. We will be incubating eggs (due to hatch before Easter) and learning about the life cycle of a chicken.

3D Printer Are you curious about 3D printing? The CNRL 3D printer will visit Uralla Library from mid March until mid April. Come into the library and take advantage of this opportunity to see the printer in action and engage with technology.

Book Group – 15th March Do you enjoy reading, meeting people and sharing your ideas and opinions about books and authors? If so, join us at Uralla Library from 4:00pm on the third Tuesday of every month for a lively and inclusive discussion. New members are always welcome. The March book of the month is: Mr Wigg by Inga Simpson - copies available in the library.

Lego Club – 17th March Lego Club is a great place to be creative, have fun and meet other Lego fans aged between 5 – 12 years. Visit the Library on the third Thursday of the month from 4.00 – 5.00pm. The building theme for March is: EARTH. Lego Club is free – no bookings required.

Storytime Storytime offers singing, reading, and age related craft experiences for preschool aged children. Join us at the Library every Tuesday at 10.30am.

Easter The library will be closed over the Easter period and reopen 10:00am on Tuesday 29th March.

SES UNIT - Recruitment Drive

The Uralla S.E.S Unit are conducting a recruitment drive and invite members of the community to become a volunteer with the NSW S.E.S. Volunteers are accepted from 16 years of age and the Uralla Unit meet/train on alternate Wednesday evenings from 6.30pm to 9.00pm.

NSW S.E.S. provide RTO training for members including Senior First Aid, Operate Communications Equipment, Storm & Water Damage, Flood Rescue Awareness, Map Reading, Land Search, Chain Saw and Community Engagement.
