BRIEF

Create a design for a young, profess ional, marr ied couple who purchased a large ground f loor property within a mult i -story bui lding in Is l ington, London. Create an apartment for the cl ients to l ive, an addit ional studio space and one bedroom ful ly access ible apartment which can be rented out.

DESCRIPTION

Extensive research into the cl ients and location led to the concept of ‘Cur ios i ty in Progress’. The f inal design is a mix of modern and class ic - a contemporary design, respecting the character and history of the bui lding, al lowing the bui lding to tel l i t ’s story. An environment has been created that enables the cl ients to pursue their own cur ios i ty. Framed views, sequence of space, permeable boundaries and subtle layers have been used to present chal lenges and contr ibute to a sense of wonder, provoking cur ios i ty to explore what might l ie beyond. Sustainable design was a key element used to reduce negative impacts on the environment and the health of the cl ients. With that in mind sustainable and environmental ly f r iendly mater ials have been used throughout the design.

BRIEF

Working with a smal l group to propose a creative but budget-conscious design for the lower ground f loor for Body & Soul, a char ity located in Clerkenwel l , London. The design needed to respond to the needs of the char ity, i ts members and other users, and creatively represent and communicate the values and aspirat ions of Body & Soul. DESCRIPTION

Collaborat ing as a group we came to a concept comprised of two words, ‘Tangram’, and ‘Nest’ . Both elements were essent ial and intr ins ic to Body & Soul and the design of the space. The merging of these two words created an ent i rely new and abstract idea. We used the concept Tangram to guide us in creating a functional, versat i le, v isual ly interest ing space, with direct references to the Tangram geometr ic shapes. We ut i l i sed the word Nest to guide us in sett ing the mood for the areas we were designing.

Create a space that al lows both f lexible working and permanent members of staff , incorporat ing amenit ies and contemporary ways of working, maximis ing the functional i ty of the overal l design.

DESCRIPTION

The f inal concept for this project is ‘Continuous Movement’. The idea or iginated from the need for people to move regular ly throughout the day to enable them to focus and be productive. Movement encourages community and conversat ion, sparking creativ i ty and col laborat ive working. This l inks to the location of Br ixton, a cultural and creative hub f i l led with a sense of community.
