    What is Financial Aid?It is nancial help i you are enrolled in an

    eligible program and meet all other eligibilitycriteria. Financial aid is money provided toyou to assist you to meet college costs. It canbe git aid (grants and scholarships) or sel helpaid (loans and part-time work). Federal, state

    and institutional unding are three sources onancial aid. Grants are ree awards that arebased on nancial need. Grants dont have tobe repaid unless, or example, you are awardedunds incorrectly or you withdraw rom schooland owe a reund. Scholarships are non-repay-able awards based either on merit or specialtalent alone or on merit and nancial need.Student loans are available to students or theirparents at low interest rates with repaymentusually deerred until ater graduation. Work-study employment allows students to earnmoney while attending school.

    within the rst 60 percent o the paymentperiod measured in calendar days, youll owea portion o unearned aid back to the ed-eral government. The college will also owe apercent o the reund o the institutional costs,and any amount that the college repays will bebilled to you.*

    Who Should Apply?

    U.S. citizens, nationals or eligible non-citi-zens can apply or nancial aid. Many actorsare considered when awarding aid. You do nothave to be poor to qualiy, but you must provenancial need. You must have a high schooldiploma or GED beore nancial aid can beawarded.

    EFFECTIVE NOWThe U.S. Department o Education will be

    eliminating mass distribution o paper FAFSAsto schools and libraries with the 2008-09 FAF-SA. This change will save money and reduce

    waste. We encourage you to submit your FreeApplication or Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)online at www.asa.ed.gov/. I you need apaper FAFSA, you can print out a 2008-09PDF version at our Web site http://admin.scc.edu/~nancialaid/or call 1-800-4-FED-AID(1-800-433-3243) to obtain a copy by mail.

    I you preer to write your answers beorecompleting the online application, downloadthe FAFSA on the Web Worksheet at http://www.asa.ed.gov/. This orm allows you to readand complete the questions beore enteringyour inormation online. The questions arelisted in the same order as they appear on the

    Web site. The orm is also available at our o-ce R-122.

    within the maximum time rame? AS and AA degree maximum o 90

    attempted credit hours. Vocational and certicate programs

    maximum o 45 attempted credithours.

    I you have previously attended a postsecondaryinstitution, you must also answer yes to the ol-lowing questions:

    1. Have your academic transcripts romprior institutions been received andevaluated by SFCC ?

    2. Do you have a 2.0 cumulative GPA?

    All transer credits as well as all SFCC attemptedcourse work will be included as attempted credithours.

    August 8, 2009

    SFCC must receive your Student Aid Report(SAR, the results o your processed FAFSA); (or

    Audit to make sure you are signing upor classes needed or your degree, orsee an academic advisor or a programadvisor beore you register. You mustbe enrolled in an eligible degree orcerticate program. Some ineligible pro-grams are: 6907 Emergency MedicalTechnician and 7334 Home Health

    5. Check your nancial aid status byclicking on My Financial AidateSantaFe. Respond promptly to ourrequests i additional inormation is

    needed. I you have already beenawarded nancial aid, your awardsby term are shown. Clicking on theaward amount will show the detail othe award (amount, deductions, andcheck amount - i applicable).

    Transfer StudentsAll transer credits as well as all SFCC

    attempted course work will be included as at-tempted credit hours.

    You must have at least a 2.0 minimumGPA ater transer credits are evaluated to be

    eligible or nancial aid. I you plan to transerto SFCC during the year (i.e. spring 2009 orsummer 2009) you must:

    1. Contact your current school and tellthem o your plans to transer.

    2. Make sure the SFCC Federal schoolcode--001519--is listed in Step Six onyour Federal Student Aid Report.

    3. I you are receiving a Federal DirectStudent Loan or a Federal Family Educa-tion Loan, you must cancel the loan

    with the school you are now attendingand reapply or loan eligibility at SFCC.

    I you are a transer student with a GPAless than 2.0 and you are attempting to qualiyor aid in subsequent terms, you must either:

    1. Raise your cumulative GPA to at least a2.0, or

    2. Earn a minimum term GPA o 2.5 orenrollment o at least hal-time status.This must occur in your rst term atSFCC.

    Critical Enrollment InformationMaximum eligibility or unding is based

    on a ull-time enrollment status; however,part-time students may be eligible or nancial

    aid. Per ederal regulations, a students nancialaid must be calculated by determining the

    students enrollment status based only oncourse work applicable to the students degree

    or certicate at SFCC.Enrollment status categories or unding

    are as ollows: Full-time status is 12 credit hours or

    more

    Three-quarter time status is 9 to 11credit hours

    Hal-time status is 6 to 8 credit hours Less than hal-time status is 1-5 credit

    hoursStudents who plan to register or less than

    ull-time enrollment status should pay close at-tention to the eligibility requirements listed or

    each nancial aid program (see page 5).The ollowing are examples o enrollment

    status and nancial aid eligibility:A. Melissas program o study is Associate

    o Arts (AA) 1133 and she has com-

    pleted all o her SFCC degree require-ments (60 credits).     The Academic Competitiveness Grant requires

    ull-time enrollment o 12 hours or more.

    A standard term is 16 weeks in length and

    Flexterm Enrollment

    What is a standard term?What is a flexterm?

    A standard term is 16 weeks in length. Thestandard all term runs rom August to De-cember and the fexterm session occurs within

    the standard term at an accelerated pace. Forexample, the all A fexterm runs rom Augustto the middle o October, approximately eight

    weeks.Your all nancial aid will be based on your

    projected enrollment in ALL sessions as o theend o the regular drop/add period, August29, 2008, OR the date the ederal govern-ment processes your nancial aid application,

    whichever is later.This is reerred to as your lock-in date

    or determining all o your nancial aid orthe standard all term, all A fexterm, or all Bfexterm. The lock-in date or students whoonly attend the B fexterm will be the end othe regular drop/add period or the B fextermor their processed date, whichever is later.

    I your application is processed by theederal government ater the lock-in date orthe standard all term, August 29, 2008, thenyour registration will be locked- in at theprocessed date.

    This same nancial aid awarding processwill also apply to the spring and summer termso 2009. Please plan accordingly in schedul-ing your courses or uture terms, and or anyfexterms within the terms.

    click on My nancial aid. You will be re-

    sponsible or paying ees or all classes deerred

    regardless o your nancial aid eligibility.

    I or any reason you do not receive nan-

    cial aid, you will still be responsible or paying

    your deerred ees. You will be notied in writ-

    ing o the ee deerment deadline. I you do

    not pay your deerred ees on time, you will befagged or a nancial obligation to the college

    with a hold on all records and will be turned

    over to collections.

    I you drop a class ater the drop with a

    reund date (e.g. during the period that you

    would receive a W), you will be responsible

    or paying any deerred ees.

    Students With DisabilitiesThe Financial Aid Oce and the Disabili-

    ties Resource Center (S-229) work together to

    assist students with disabilities. Contact the

    center or any special needs assistance at (352)

    395-4400 voice/TTY. On request, the center

    will arrange a meeting with a nancial aid

    specialist.

    Veterans AffairsVeterans assistance programs at SFCC

    are coordinated by the Veterans Aairs Oce

    (R-101), (352) 395-5505. Veterans applying

    or nancial aid must report all educational

    benets and provide written verication o

    same to the Financial Aid Oce. Veterans may

    also be requested to submit a valid DD214discharge orm.

    VerificationThe U. S. Department o Education

    chooses about 30% o applicants or verica-tion. Verication may occur any time duringthe application or awarding process. Thecollege may also select a student or verica-tion. This is a review process to make sure theinormation submitted is correct. I selected orverication, you will be notied by the ederalprocessor and/or SFCC. You may be asked toprovide the ollowing additional documents:

I the college hasreason to believe that an applicant has appliedor Federal Student Aid under alse pretense,the case may be reerred to the Oce o theInspector General, or resolution. A case mayalso be reerred i the student reuses to provide

    Financial Aid Programs

    Federal Pell GrantFederal grant program awarded to un-

    dergraduates. Eligibility is determined by theederal processor. Award amounts are proratedaccording to the students enrollment status

    (e.g. ull time, three-quarter time, hal time,less than hal time). Fees may be deerred andbooks may be charged to accepted awards.

    Award amounts range rom $400-$4310; how-ever, these amounts may change.

    Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG)This is a ederal program awarded to rst

    and second year undergraduates. The eligibil-ity requirements are: rst academic year (0-23credit hours earned towards degree) studentsmust be U.S. citizens, eligible or a Pell Grant,enrolled ull time and have completed a rigor-ous* secondary school program ater January 1,

    2006. Second academic year (24 credit hoursearned towards degree to graduation) studentsmust be U.S. citizens, eligible or a Pell Grant,enrolled ull time, have completed a rigorous*secondary school program ater January 1,2005* and have a cumulative GPA o at least3.0 at the conclusion o the rst year o educa-tion. Award limits per academic year: rst yearstudent a maximum o $750.00; second yearstudent a maximum o $1300.00.

    Federal Supplemental Educational Op-portunity Grant (FSEOG)

    Federal grant program awarded to un-dergraduates with exceptional need. Priorityis given to Federal Pell Grant recipients withapplications completed by the March 15 dead-line. Fees may be deerred to accepted awards.

    Award amounts range rom $100-$600. Aminimum o hal-time enrollment status (6-8hours) per standard term is required or con-sideration.

    Florida Student Assistance Grant (FSAG)

    A state grant program awarded to under-graduates. To be considered, students musthave one-year prior Florida residency and beenrolled in AA, AS, or AAS degree programs.Priority is given to students with applica-tions completed by the March 15 deadline.For renewal eligibility, i enrolled ull time,students must earn 24 credit hours in previoussummer, all and spring semesters. I enrolledhal time (6-8 hours) students must earn 12credit hours; i enrolled three-quarter time(9-11 hours) students must complete 18 credithours. I the award is a combination ull-timeand part-time FSAG, the student must success-ully complete the applicable credit hours oreach term. The amounts o the awards range

    Florida Student Assistance Grant for Stu-dents in Certificate Programs (FSAG-CE)

    FSAGCE is a state grant created to assistFlorida students enrolled in certicate pro-grams. To be eligible the student must be aFlorida resident and U.S. citizen or eligiblenon-citizen and be enrolled at least hal-timein a certicate program. Priority is given tostudents with applications completed by theMarch 15 deadline. Award amounts rangerom $200-$1,808 per year. The student doesnot have to receive the Pell Grant to receive anFSAG-CE program grant.

    Florida Work Experience Program (FWEP)Florida Work Experience Program is a

    need-based state unded program providing

    eligible Florida students work experience tocomplement and reinorce their educationalcareer goals. To be eligible the student must bea Florida resident and U.S. citizen or eligiblenon-citizen; enroll in a certicate program;be enrolled at least hal-time. Awards rangerom 10-15 hours per week. Students are paidminimum wage bi-monthly. Students who areawarded will contact the Financial Aid WorkStudy oce in R-132 or job placement.

    Santa Fe ScholarshipInstitutional scholarships awarded to

    out-o-district students with exceptional need.

    Awards will be on a rst-come, rst-servedbasis to students who completed all SFCCadmission requirements and the FAFSA. Aminimum o less than hal-time enrollmentstatus (1-5 hours) per standard term is requiredor consideration.

    Federal Work Study (FWS)Federal Work Study is a need-based stu-

    dent work program. Awards range rom 10-15hours per week. Students are paid minimum

    wage bi-monthly. Students who are awardedwill contact the Financial Aid Work Studyoce in R-132 or job placement. Community

    Service work-study positions are available; iinterested, advise the work study placementspecialist. A minimum o hal-time enrollmentstatus (6-8 hours) per standard term is requiredor consideration.

    William D. Ford Federal DirectLoan (Direct Loan Program)

    Subsidized Federal Direct Stafford LoanThis is a ederal student loan program

    where the ederal government is the lender.Loans disbursed ater July, 2006 will havea xed interest rate o 6.8 percent which ispaid by the government while the studentis in school and during the grace period. A

    2.0. percent origination ee is charged at eachdisbursement; however, the student receivesa 1.5 percent rebate on each disbursement.

    Award limits per academic year: rst yearstudent $3500; second year student $4500.The amount o tuition and ees deerred toloans will be limited to the amount to net loan

    disbursed. A minimum hal-time enrollmentstatus (6-8 hours) per standard term is requiredor consideration.

    Unsubsidized Federal Direct StaffordLoan

    Same as Subsidized Federal Direct StaordLoan, except that the borrower is responsibleor the interest while in school, during thegrace period, and while in repayment. Awardlimits per academic year are: an indepen-dent student receives up to $4000 above theSubsidized Federal Direct Staord Loan limit;a dependent student receives the dierence

    between the Subsidized Federal Direct Sta-ord Loan amount and the Subsidized FederalDirect Staord Loan yearly limit. A minimumhal-time enrollment status (6-8 hours) perstandard term is required or consideration.

    Federal Parent Loans to UndergraduateStudents (FPLUS)

    SFCC requires students to complete theFAFSA and have a valid SAR on le to processa Parent PLUS Loan. For lender inormationyou may search Google or Federal PLUSLoans. This ederal student loan program orparents o dependent students enables parents

    to borrow rom a lending institution or thestudents education. Students will not be ableto charge tuition or books against the PLUSloan. Award limit is the cost o education lessother nancial aid. A minimum hal-timeenrollment status (6-8 hours) per standardterm is required or consideration For lenderinormation you may search Google or Fed-eral PLUS Loans.

    Satisfactory Academic Progressfor Financial Aid RecipientsMini-

    mum StandardsFederal and state regulations require thatstudents meet minimum standards in order tobe eligible to receive nancial aid unds. Theminimum standards at SFCC are dened be-low and are applied to all Title IV nancial aidprograms administered by the college, exceptthose programs whose eligibility requirementsare restricted to institutional unds or outsidedonor restrictions:

    1. Students must meet an academic pero-mance requirement o at least a 2.0cumulative GPA.

    2. Students must make progress towardtheir degree. Minimum progress towarda degree requires initial year nancial aid

    3. Minimum progress toward a degreerequires continuing nancial aid recipi-ents to earn 67 percent o credit hoursattempted during the current academic

    year or renewal eligibility. I a continu-ing nancial aid recipient completes zerocredits/hours or any unded term dur-ing the academic year, then he or she

    will lose all subsequent nancial aidawarded or that academic year.

    4. Students must complete their educa-tional objective within a given timerame. This limit is eective whether ornot nancial aid has ever been appliedor or received.a. All transer credits as well as all

    SFCC attempted course work will be

    included as attempted credit hours.b. All AA, AS and AAS degree-seekingstudents have a maximum o 90 attempted credit hours.

    Effect of Incomplete Grades, Withdraw-als, Remedial Course Work, and CourseRepeats

    A student who has completed no credithours in a term and has incompletes in thatterm has 20 school days rom the rst day oclasses o the ollowing term to make up in-complete grades in order to continue receivingunds. Reinstatement o awards is contingenton a unds-available basis and it is the studentsresponsibility to notiy the Financial Aid O-ce within the time rame provided.

    I grade changes or incomplete gradesmade up ater the time rame should aectsubsequent terms or academic year eligibility,students must provide transcripts refecting

    such changes.Withdrawals rom any course(s) will becounted in the total hours attempted and mayresult in ailure to meet the standards o prog-ress. Students must ollow the ocial with-drawal procedures established by the college.

    Course repeats will be counted in the totalattempted credits. See SFCCs policy or GPAconguration in the Academic Aairs sec-tion o the college catalog under Grades andReports or go to www.scc.edu and click onAcademic Aairs.

    Funding or students assigned or remedialcourse work will be limited to 30 credit hours

    regardless o whether or not the student receivedany nancial aid or these remedial (College

    Prep) credit hours. For students receiving nan-cial aid, ederal regulations place no limit on thenumber o ESL (English as a Second Language)credit hours a student may take. Remedialcourse work and ESL credits are treated thesame as other courses or satisactory academicprogress purposes. Grades received in these

    courses will be used in calculating a grade pointaverage and hours attempted will be used todetermine the completion ratio. Remedial/ ESLcourses will be counted when determining themaximum time rame requirement rule.

    ReinstatementI a student is denied/suspended rom -

    nancial aid, the student must attend a semesteror semesters on unaided status until minimumstandards are met.

    Probation/SuspensionStudents will be monitored or a cumula-

    tive 2.0 GPA, completed credits/hours, andtime rame at the end o every term. Failureto maintain a cumulative 2.0 GPA or ailureto earn 67 percent completion will result in aprobationary status that remains until the nalreview is perormed. Students who completezero credits/hours or reach the maximum timerame will be denied urther aid.

    Determination of Continued EligibilityA nal review o satisactory progress will

    occur at the end o the students academic year.Students who do not meet the above statedminimum requirement will be suspended rom

    receipt o urther nancial aid.A student will not be eligible or renewalo nancial aid i minimum standards were notmet or the prior year on aid even i the cu-mulative hours earned (entire SFCC academicrecord) is 67 percent o all attempted hours.

    A student who is suspended or deniedbecause o this must attend, unaided, until thedecit points are made up or the prior year,and the students cumulative academic recordully complies with the standards policy.

    I the student makes up the decit pointsbut the overall record ails to meet the stan-dards policy, no nancial aid will be oered.

    Students have the right o appeal i cir-cumstances warrant urther review.

    AppealStudents whose eligibility has been termi-

    nated (because o ailure to meet the standardso satisactory progress) may in certain cases re-quest a ormal review o the decision to revokenancial aid eligibility. Circumstances thatmay be considered or this special review (ap-peal) include: death in the students immediateamily, medical emergencies, accidents, divorceor separation o parents, personal tragedy, orother documented circumstances beyond thestudents control that prevented him or herrom meeting the minimum standards.

    Procedure for ReviewIn order to appeal the decision on this

    basis; the ollowing procedures must be used:1. A request must be submitted by the

    student in writing to the Financial AidOce.

    2. The circumstances which prevented

    satisactory progress must be clearlystated.

    3. The request must include documenta-tion to support the exceptional circum-stance, such as death certicate, state-ment rom physician, or other veriableinormation. All documentation is sub-ject to verication by the Financial AidOce.

    4. Once the review has been made the stu-dent will be notied o the result o thereview.

    Transfer Student Evaluation

    All transer credits as well as all SFCCattempted course work will be included as at-tempted credit hours.

    Transer students applying or nancialaid must have at least a 2.0 GPA ater transercredits are evaluated to be eligible to receivenancial aid unding. Transer students withless than a 2.0 GPA and attempting to qualiyor aid in subsequent terms must either:

    1. Raise the cumulative GPA to at least a2.0, or

    2. Earn a minimum term GPA o 2.5 orenrollment o at east hal time status.

    (This must be perormed the rst termenrolled at SFCC.)

    Postsecondary Adult Programs (PSA) PSA programs greater than or equal to

    900 clock hours: Course work in thesePSA programs will be converted to credithours or nancial aid payment and willollow the same satisactory academicstandards as noted above or other creditprograms.

    PSA programs 600 to 899 clock hours:Course work in these PSA programs isbased on clock hour attendance. Stu-

    dents receiving nancial aid must suc-cessully complete the clock hour course

    work with a 2.0 GPA or each classunded beore additional payment canbe made. Duration o eligibility will belimited to the length o the program.

    The Checks in the Mailor Is It?Your high school transcript or your GED

    certicate must be received by SFCCs Admis-sions Oce or your nancial aid check(s) toprint and your instructor(s) must veriy classattendance electronically each term. Financialaid checks are mailed to the students mail-ing address on le with the Registrars Oce.Please keep your mailing address up to date

    to prevent your check(s) rom being lost orreturned in the mail.

    Policies That Affect You

    Anti Drug Abuse ActStudents should be aware that, i convicted

    o a drug elony, they may lose eligibility orederal nancial aid programs.

    DefaultStudents are not eligible or ederal or state

    student aid i they are in deault on a ederalloan or owe a repayment on a student grant.

    A student who has a nancial obligationor is in deault on a student loan shall not bepermitted to graduate, register, receive an aca-demic transcript or benet rom other regularcollege services.

    Federal Repayment Policy

    As a result o the Higher Education Acto 1998, a student who completely withdrawsrom classes may be required to repay a per-centage o nancial aid unds received.

    The Registrars Oce, located in R-101, isthe designated oce to contact about with-drawing rom the college. Oce hours are: 8a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Forocial withdrawal procedures, please see thecollege catalog.

    College reund policy dictates that ees willbe reunded in ull or course work droppedduring the drop/add period or canceled bythe college. However, the ederal repayment

    policy supersedes the college reund policy orstudents receiving ederal nancial aid andcompletely withdrawing rom the college.

    In general, a portion o ederal studentnancial aid (Title IV) grant or loan unds,but not ederal college work study unds, mustbe returned to the Title IV programs upon arecipients withdrawal rom school. Simplyput, any Title IV nancial aid recipient who

    withdraws within the rst 60 percent o thepayment period measured in calendar daysowes a portion o unearned aid back to theederal government. The college will also owe

    a percentage o the reund o the institutionalcosts. Any amount that the college repays willbe billed to the student.

    All students receiving Title IV assistancewho completely withdraw are subject to theederal repayment law. This law uses the termsearned and unearned Title IV unds whenrelating the amount o assistance applicableto the percentage o time enrolled. It is theunearned portion that becomes the ocus o theReturn o Title IV Funds ormula.

    The school must rst determine thepercentage o Title IV assistance the studentearned. Up through the 60 percent point intime, the percentage o assistance earned isequal to the percentage o the payment period

    IMPORTANT NOTEChecks rom the ollowing programs

    will be mailed (disbursed) approximatelythree working days ater the last day todrop and receive a reund or as avail-able or the Federal Pell Grant, Aca-demic Competitiveness Grant, processed

    William D. Ford Federal Direct Loanand Federal Supplemental EducationalOpportunity Grant. The ederal govern-ment must accept Pell origination anddisbursement records beore checks willprint; or loan checks to print, origina-tion and promissory notes must be ac-cepted by the ederal government. FloridaStudent Assistance Grant, Bright Futuresand other state scholarship checks willbe mailed as unds become available andinternal reporting is completed. This usu-ally occurs within the rst six weeks o

    the semester. SFCC Endowment Scholar-ship checks will be released within therst sixty days into the semester.

    Financial aid checks will not bemailed to students owing an obligation tothe college. I you owe an obligation, you

    will be notied in writing and should re-solve these concerns at the Cashiers O-ce. You are responsible or any debt oroverpayment occurring as a result o yourerror or institutional error. The cashier islocated in the Alan J. Robertson Admin-istration Building (F-52) and is open orbusiness Monday through Friday 8:15a.m. to 4 p.m.

    ATTENTIONLOAN RECIPIENTS

    You must complete a loan ori-entation online at http://admin.scc.edu/~nancialaid/orient.htm beore loancheck(s) will print. You must score 100percent on the quiz and transmit theresults to Financial Aid. Federal regula-tions require a 30-day delay rom thebeginning o term beore disbursingunds to new borrowers in the rst yearo their program. The ederal government

    must accept loan origination and promis-sory notes beore checks will print. Youmust be enrolled at least hal time to beeligible to receive a Federal Direct Loan.To be considered enrolled hal time, youmust enroll or a minimum o at least sixcredit hours. I you are awarded a loan orone semester only, you will receive twochecks; the rst will be mailed approxi-mately three days ater the last day todrop and receive a reund or as available,the second will be mailed midpoint othe semester. Future disbursement o

    loans will be canceled i enrollment dropsbelow six credit hours.

    completed as o the day the student withdrew.I the withdrawal occurs ater the 60 percentpoint, then the percentage earned is 100percent, and no reund/repayment is required.The dierence between the earned Title IV as-sistance and 100 percent equals the percentageo unearned Title IV unds that are thereore

    subject to repayment by the school and/or thestudent. Any required repayment is allocatedback to the Title IV programs in order speciedby law.* A student must repay the portion othe original grant overpayment that is in excesso hal o the total Title IV grant unds that heor she received or could have received. The stu-dent does not have to repay grant overpaymentso $50.00 or less per program. Any repaymento Title IV loans is to be repaid under the con-ditions o the existing promissory note.

    A student who owes a grant repaymentremains ineligible or urther Title IV assistance

    until the grant is repaid, unless the student andthe U.S. Department o Education agree on asatisactory repayment arrangement. The U.S.Department o Education allows a student toretain eligibility or 45 days rom the date thatthe institution sends the repayment notica-tion to the student. To continue eligibility past45 days, the student will have to either paythe overpayment in ull or make satisactoryarrangement with the U.S. Department oEducation to repay.

    Loan RepaymentRepayment o principal or Subsidized

    Federal Direct Staord Loan and Unsubsi-dized Federal Direct Staord Loan begins sixmonths ater you graduate, withdraw, or enrollless than hal time. For Unsubsidized FederalDirect Staord Loan, interest begins to ac-crue and payment o interest begins at date odisbursement.

She has no additional sub-sidized loan eligibility or all 2009because her summer 2009 subsidizedloan or $3500 was the maximum sheis entitled to borrow per academicyear. For all 2009 the maximumamount o her unsubsidized loaneligibility is $2500. This amount is thedierence between her unsubsidized

    Scholarships are git aid based on scholas-tic achievement or special talent; some con-sider nancial need. Scholarships designatedor Santa Fe Community College students are

    described below. Many outside organizationsoer awards based on place o residence, back-ground, proessional aliations and/or eldo study. Free computerized scholarship searchservices are available in the Career ResourceCenter in S-242, and you can nd books onthe subject there, as well as in libraries andbookstores. You may research and apply orassistance on your own, corresponding withpotential donors and assuming responsibilityor nancial commitments you make. Outsideaid is considered in your aid package and mustbe reported to the Financial Aid Oce.

    SFCC Board of TrusteesScholarships

    By legislation, the ollowing nine scholar-ships are unded in part by a portion o everytuition dollar. SFCC students are proud tohelp those who might otherwise be denied theopportunity to pursue educational goals. These

    scholarships oer tuition up to 76 credit hoursor program length plus a $700 books/suppliesallowance or a maximum o two years. In-statetuition and ees are charged to these awards.

    Board of Trustees ScholarshipsThis one-year need-based award is oered

    on a rst-come, rst-served basis to in-districtstudents who have completed all SFCC admis-sion requirements and the Federal Applicationor Student Financial Aid. Students must meetminimum standards o academic progress asdened on page 7.

    AthleticsThis one-year renewable award is oered

    through the SFCC Athletics Department tostudents who excel in baseball, basketball orsotball. Students selected by the SFCC Athlet-ics Department must meet state athletic schol-arship guidelines or eligibility and renewal.Full-time enrollment is required.

    Florida Bright Futures ScholarshipProgram

    This is a state scholarship awarded to

    Florida high school graduates who demonstratehigh academic achievement. Awards are issuedby the State o Florida directly to the eligiblestudent. The program has three levels. You mayreceive only one o these:

    1. Florida Academic Scholars Award (pays100% o collegelevel tuition plus abook allowance), requires 3.0 cumulativeGPA to renew; or

    2. Florida Medallion Scholarship (pays100% o college-level tuition or associ-ate degree programs or 75% o college-level tuition or certicate programs),

    requires 2.75 cumulative GPA to renew;or

    3. Florida Gold Seal Vocational ScholarsAward (pays 75% o vocational programtuition), requires 2.75 cumulative GPAto renew

    Renewal also requires completion o atleast 6 credit hours o collegelevel courseworkeach term. Each award level has dierent aca-demic criteria or eligibility. The toprankedscholar rom each county will receive an addi-tional award o up to $1,500. Applications andeligibility criteria are available rom your highschools guidance oce or rom the FloridaDepartment o Education web site: foridastu-dentnancialaid.org. SFCC receives electronicinormation about eligible scholars rom theFlorida Department o Education. You mustenroll or at least 6 hours o collegelevelcoursework each term. Initial award amountsare estimated or purposes o SFCCs nancialaid award planning.

    Actual payment depends upon the pro-gram regulations and the amount o tuitionand ees assessed or the term. The scholarships

    will cover the designated percentage o instatecollegelevel tuition and ees or up to 45

    credit hours o coursework each year. Paymentwill be based on your actual tuition charges.

    Books cannot be charged against FloridaBright Future Scholarships. Students eligibleor a book allowance rom Bright Futures willbe disbursed a check when unds are receivedrom the State o Florida.
