GOD’S WATCHERS

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION

O n Good Friday, at the heart of the Triduum, the commemora-tion of the Lord’s Passion is colored by sobriety and decorum, but this Thursday the mystery comes in a lumi-

nous celebration of Christ’s victory. In its deepest ori-gins, the Exaltation of the Holy Cross is the feast of a dedication of a church, since in the year 335 the Church of the Holy Sepulchre was dedicated on Sep-tember 13, and on the following day the “true cross” discovered by St. Helena was brought outside to the faithful for vener-ation. DID YOU KNOW?

T eens and tweens typically like to push bounda-ries and test their limits, but the new trend of taking dangerous selfies has led to

several tragedies. There are far too many people who think that taking a pic-ture while driving, or standing out on a ledge, is more important than their own safety, and that getting “likes” on a pho-to makes the risks worth it. Talk to your kids about safety, smart choices, and being aware of their environment and surroundings, even when they’re using their smartphones. For a copy of the VIRTUS© online article “Selfies are More Dangerous than You Think,” email [email protected] or call (213) 637-7227.

Copy-right © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
