Policies and Procedures Inclement Weather Policy:

The YMCA will base its decision to cancel classes, programs and/or

close the facility based on the Erie County EMA advisement and

weather level classifications.

Erie County Weather Level

Level 1 – The Sandusky Area YMCA facility, programs and classes are

in normal operations.

Level 2 - The Sandusky Area YMCA is open with childcare and

babysitting services in normal operations. All other programs and

classes are cancelled.

Under a Level 2 weather emergency, a decision to hold

evening classes and programs will be made by 1:00 p.m.

Level 3 – The YMCA facility will delay opening or close based on

current conditions. If a Level 3 is declared during open hours, YMCA

members and guests will be given a two-hour notice before the facility

will close.

Updates on closings, delays and/or cancellations can be located in the

following locations:

Road condition levels are available on the Erie County website:

www.eriecounty.oh.gov. Note: The Erie County web-site will need to

be refreshed if left inactive for a period of time.

Class Make-ups:

A make-up class will only occur when the instructor is unable to

attend or for weather cancellations. If a make-up cannot be scheduled,

or if you are unable to attend the scheduled make-up, then a YMCA

class credit will be issued for the class missed.

Unsupervised Youth Policy:

Children Ten (10) and under must be supervised at

all times while in the facility by an adult (twenty-one

years of age or older) or be in a supervised program.

Children Eleven (11) and Twelve (12) must have an

adult (twenty-one years of age or older) in the

facility or be in a supervised program.

Youth Seventeen (17) and under must be

accompanied by an adult (twenty-one years of age or

older) after 8:30pm or be in a supervised program.

Racquetball Courts: Two racquetball courts are

available for use by individuals age 16 and older at no

additional fee. Children under 16 must be accompanied

by an adult (21 years or older).

Fitness Center/Weight Room Policy: Fitness facilities

are available to individuals ages 16 years and older.

(Fitness facilities include cardiovascular center, free

weight room and nautilus center). Appropriate workout

clothing and shoes must be worn at all times.

(Appropriate clothing includes shirt and shoes or sweat

pants). Absolutely no horseplay will be tolerated.

Courtesy to other members and guests is expected. You

must wipe down the pieces of equipment you used as

you move from one machine to another.

Fitness Center Under 16 Exemptions: For individuals

under the age of 16 years old that would like to use the

Fitness Center and Free Weight rooms, exceptions will

be considered based on the following: 1.Equipment

orientation is scheduled and completed by contacting

Mike Seel. 2. After completing the orientation, a

wristband will be issued that must be worn while the

youth is in the Fitness Center and/ or Weight Room. 3.

A parent or guardian age 21 years or older must be

present with the youth at all times while in the Fitness

Center and/ or Weight Room. Please note that based on

the manufacture’s recommendation. treadmill use is

limited to 13yrs and older.

Pool Policy

Five years old and under must have adult in the water

with them at all times.

Six to ten years old must have a parent on the pool deck

or observation area at all times.

Eleven to twelve years old parent or guardian must be in

the building.

Thirteen years and older swim with no parent/guardian

in building

Locker Room Policies:

Full lockers may be used for daily use ONLY. The YMCA reserves the

right to remove unauthorized locks from lockers left overnight. Items

must be redeemed in 30 days. Members need to bring their own locks to

secure personal items. The Sandusky Area YMCA is not responsible for

lost or stolen items. Ages 16 and older only are permitted to use the

upstairs adult locker rooms. Parents with children ages 4 and older of

the opposite gender are required to use the family locker room at the

end of the pool.

Family/Special Needs Locker Rooms:

Located off the Frohman Pool Deck near the shallow end. These locker

rooms are handicap accessible. Also, any parent bringing a child over 4

years of age of the opposite gender needs to use these locker rooms.

GROUP FITNESS CLASSES

Healthy Living

Fitness classes are FREE for YMCA Members, except for Group Cycling. Community fees are $7 per class

and must be paid prior to attending the exercise classes. Punch cards may be purchased in value from $7 to

$140 and expire one year after date of purchase.

Purchase a full card for $140 & receive one class FREE.

WATER FITNESS CLASSES

Aqua Aerobics - All Fitness Levels / Swimming Skills Recommended: A fun, low-impact exercise class.

The water buoyancy reduces the amount of stress placed on the joints, allowing movement with little or no

pressure on the body. Participants will get their hearts pumping, strengthen muscles and increase joint range of

motion by using tools such as water noodles, water bells, and kickboards. The shallow and deep ends of the

pool are used for classes.

Aquanastics - All Fitness Levels / Swimming Skills Not Required: Aquanastics is an intermediate water

exercise class. It includes exercises to develop cardiovascular strength, joint flexibility, muscle strength and

endurance, balance, and posture. This is a great class for complete body fitness! Classes are held in the shallow

end of the swimming pool.

Arthritis Foundation (A.F.) Aquatic Program - Beginner to Intermediate / Swimming Skills Not

Required: Gentle movements in a heated pool help relieve arthritis pain and stiffness, while increasing joint

flexibility and range of motion. Led by Arthritis Foundation and Aquatic Exercise Association certified in-

structors.

Deep Water Running - All Fitness Levels / Swimming Skills are Required: Deep Water Running is a great

non-impact way to condition your entire body. Utilizing water belts participants, move through the deep end of

the swimming pool increasing cardiovascular endurance and muscle strength, endurance and flexibility. Run-

ning belts are provided.

SilverSneakers® Splash - All Fitness Levels: Activate your urge for variety! Splash offers fun, shallow

water movement to improve agility and flexibility while addressing cardiovascular, strength and endurance

conditioning. No swimming ability is required, and a SilverSneakers® kickboard or other aquatic equipment is

used to improve strength, balance and coordination.

YMCA Certified Personal Trainers:

ACE Certified Personal Trainer Cindra Mielke and ACSM Certified Personal Trainer Laura Tyson will work

with you to establish personalized fitness goals, develop and supervise an individual exercise program and

motivate you to a healthier tomorrow!

Appointments Only

Register and pay for personal training at the Welcome Center. All checks should be made out to the

Sandusky Area YMCA. Available to YMCA members only.

Fees: $29 per 1/2 - hour session Group Rates: 2 people $73 per 1 - hour session

$49 per 1 - hour session 3 people $90 per 1 - hour session

GROUP FITNESS CLASSES

SilverSneakers®Yoga - All Fitness Levels:

SilverSneakers® Yoga will move your whole body

through a complete series of seated and standing yoga

poses. Chair support is offered to safely perform a variety

of seated and standing postures designed to increase

flexibility, balance and range of movement. Restorative

breathing exercises and final relaxation will promote

stress reduction and mental clarity.

Strength Training - All Fitness Levels:

Utilizing a variety of equipment, participants will sculpt,

tone, and strengthen muscles throughout the entire body.

Proper form and technique will be emphasized.

Total Fitness - All Fitness Level:

Total Fitness is an effective, all-inclusive workout for

beginners through advanced participants. Using a

variety of techniques, equipment, and class formats

participants will improve strength, flexibility, balance, and

aerobic endurance.

Turbo Kick® - All Fitness Level:

A kickboxing class and so much more! Turbo Kick®

combines kicks, punches, sports drills, athletic moves, and

hip-hop dance to give you a fun and effective workout.

Instructed using an interval format, allowing all fitness

levels to make the most of their workout.

Y-Step - Intermediate to Advanced Fitness Levels:

Steps of 4, 6 or 8 inches are used to provide participants

with a heart-pumping, calorie burning workout. Easily

modified by performing exercises on the floor.

Zumba® - All Fitness Levels:

Zumba® is a fun and effective aerobic workout that

combines Latin rhythms to this calorie-burning, body

energizing fitness dance party!

Yoga - All Fitness Level:

Yoga is a mat based class designed to increase flexibility,

balance, range-of-motion and muscle strength. Participants

will be led through a series of flowing

moments that transition from standing to the mat.

Relaxation and restorative breathing are included.

Instructed by Cindra Mielke, YogaFit Certified.

Boot Camp - Intermediate to Advanced Levels:

Boot Camp is a great workout for individuals that prefer little

to no choreography. A simple but intense class that will get

your heart pumping and strengthen your body.

Core Conditioning - All Fitness Levels:

Utilize a variety of equipment and your own body weight to

develop a strong and toned mid-section. Easily modified for

beginners, this class is ideal for those looking to improve

strength, balance, posture and flexibility.

PiYo™- All Fitness Level:

PiYo is a unique class designed to build strength and gain

flexibility. The class is filled with intense choreography that is

fun, challenging and will make you sweat. It is about energy,

power and rhythm. This is a mat based class that will increase

your overall core strength and stability. Elements from Pilates

and Yoga are found in the choreography.

Early Bird Fitness - All Fitness Levels:

Begin your day with an invigorating fitness wake-up call!

Monday-Step Circuit, Tuesday-Combo (Step, Hi/Low and

Strength), Wednesday-Group Cycling, Thursday-Combo (Step,

Hi/Low and Strength), Friday-Boot Camp.

Pilates - All Fitness Levels:

Tone and reshape your body through mat-based Pilates.

Exercises performed by participants center around the core of

the body—the abdominal, back, and buttock muscles. Through

flowing and controlled movements and breathing exercises,

participants develop muscle strength, muscle flexibility, and

muscle balance.

SilverSneakers® Classic - All Fitness Level:

Have fun and move to the music through a variety of

exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of

movement and activities for daily living. Hand held weights,

elastic tubing with handles and a SilverSneakers® ball are

offered for resistance. A chair is available if needed for seated

or standing support.

Group Cycling - Intermediate to Advance Level

Combination of aerobic and interval work performed on stationary

bicycles located in Fitness Studio. Easily modified for all fitness

levels. Registration is required during the five week session. If

bikes are available, the drop in fee is $3/ Member $8/ Non Member.

Preschool Gymnastics

Tiny Tots—Ages 18 months-3 years: This class is for boys and girls. A parent or caregiver must participate to assist

their child during this 30-minute class. The emphasis is on having fun while rolling, swinging, jumping and the concept

of waiting for a turn while becoming comfortable in the gymnastics setting.

Tumbleweeds—Ages 3-5 years: This class is for boys and girls. Parents or caregiver is not required to participate, how-

ever, they are encouraged to assist their younger child in socialization. This is a basic developmental skills class taught in

a structured environment. Listening, following directions and cooperation in group situations are stressed.

Creative movement, forward rolls, a kick to handstand, a beginner cartwheel, balance beam and preschool bar skills are

included for motor development.

Progressive Gymnastics

Beginners—Ages 6 and up: This class is for boys and girls who have had little or no formal gymnastics instruction. A

general introduction to the women’s events is given. The focus at this level is on forward rolls, backward rolls,

cartwheels, and bridges. Gymnasts begin to increase their flexibility and upper body strength.

Intermediate/ Advance—Ages 6 and up and by instructor recommendation: This class is for more experienced

gymnasts. In addition to perfecting Level I skills, the handstand, forward rolls, round-offs and bridges with a kick-over

are emphasized. Gymnasts have increased total body strength, flexibility, coordination, and understanding the feel of

proper form is emphasized.

Pre Team—Age 6 and up and by instructor recommendation: Gymnasts continue building on skills and movements

from the previous level. Walkovers and skills with flight, round-offs, back handsprings, and front handsprings are all

emphasized. Increased strength and higher level of body awareness are required as well as a higher degree of

understanding instructions and paying attention to details

Tumbling—Ages 6 and up: This class will emphasize the floor event in gymnastics only. Correct body form in the

round-off, front & back walkover, handsprings and tucks are the main skills emphasized. Increased strength and higher

level of body awareness are required to be in this class.

Competitive Gymnastics

Levels 3—9 (Pre-team & Team): Gymnasts at this level have mastered Level III gymnastics skills in all events and are

ready to put the combinations into memorized routines. Pre-team (Level 4—not competing) and Team (Levels 4—9)

have pre-season practices September through November, with the competitive season following. Competition is not

required for first year Level IV gymnasts, although several positive opportunities are available. The YMCA Core values

of Respect, Caring, Responsibility & Honesty are also emphasized along with teamwork and good sportsmanship.

Cheerleading Clinic

April 12th and May 10th

The Sandusky Area YMCA is offering

cheerleading to youth interested in

cheerleading. Coach Carolyn Esposito will be motivating & instructing

this very exciting & energetic program. Participants will learn various

cheers that will incorporate proper voice techniques, motions of the arms

& legs, along with the different jumps used by many cheerleading squads.

Benefits of this program include better hand/eye coordination, balance, &

sense of timing & rhythm.

T-Ball

Instructional and fun league designed for boys and girls ages 4-7. All games will be played at

the YMCA. There will be a weekday practice followed by a game on Saturday morning.

Parents are urged to volunteer as coaches and officials.

Registration: March 24, 2014 to April 19, 2014

Season: April 22, 2014 to June 21, 2014

Cost $40/ Member $60 / Non Member

Outdoor Mini Kickers

This is a great way to start out learning

soccer for this young age while having

some fun in a non-competitive

atmosphere.

Saturday Morning Only

Tae Kwon Do—Ages 5 and up: Tae Kwon Do is a Korean martial art that teaches students to utilize various parts of the body for

self-defense. The conditioning helps students develop discipline and promotes self-confidence. Class meet two times per week.

Instructor: Kim Dewey 419-357–5116. Participants will be required to purchase a uniform (approx. cost is $30). Uniforms can be

ordered directly from the instructor.

Youth 5-8 yrs. Tuesday & Thursday 5:00pm to 5:30pm

Youth 8-14yrs 5:30pm to 6:10pm

Martial Arts Sparring Training—Participants must be enrolled and eligible in the YMCA Martial Arts

Programing: This class is a light contact sparring class to develop those participants who are already enrolled in our current

YMCA Martial Arts program. This class is light contact sparring. Only current eligible (gold belt and up) YMCA martial arts class

participants may attend. Participants must have their own safety equipment. This equipment can be ordered through Kim Dewey,

class instructor.

Healthy Kids Day 2014

Come to the Q for a fun-filled afternoon with the Greater Cleveland YMCA & Sandusky

Area YMCA Healthy Kids Day as it kicks-off for a summer of physical activity & learning.

Pregame events include concourse activities, opportunity to shoot on the Cavs hardwood and

much more! All Healthy Kids Day Activities are FREE of charge when you come down to

The Q! Stick around after all of the Healthy Kids Day fun to watch the Cavaliers take on the

Celtics at 7:30 p.m.! Discount Tickets will be available.

Zumba® Jr. and Zumba® Kids programs are the ultimate

dance-fitness party for young Zumba® fans ages 4 –6

and 7-11, where they can play it loud and rock with

friends to their own rules! This program features age-

appropriate music and moves that get kids movin’ to the

beat. It’s all about feeling fearless on the dance floor,

reinforcing the idea that it’s okay to just be yourself and

dance like no one’s watching. A fun 45 minutes of

movement. Instructor: Kirsi Hemphill

Babysitting Service—Ages infant & up

Monday-Friday from 9:00am-2:00pm,

Monday-Thursday from 4:00pm-7:30pm.

Pre-School Swim Lessons (ages 4 and 5)

Children ages 4 and 5 learn water safety, survival skills and

foundational swimming concepts in a safe and fun

environment. Skills are age-appropriate, allowing students

to achieve success on a regular basis. No parents in water.

Pike = PS 1

Helps children become comfortable in the water and basic

water safety.

Rays = PS2

Builds on the skills learned in Pikes and gives participants

success with fundamental skills, such as floating and basic

locomotion.

Learn to Swim Levels (ages 6-18)

The program is designed for children 6 – 18 years of age.

Students progress through the levels at their own pace,

mastering the skills in one level before advancing to the

next. Each level of our Learn-to-Swim class includes

training in basic water safety and helping others in an

emergency, in addition to stroke development.

Polliwog = Level 1

INTRODUCTION TO WATER SKILLS

Helps participants feel comfortable in the water.

Guppy = Level 2

FUNDAMENTAL AQUATIC SKILLS

Gives participants success with fundamental skills.

Minnow = Level 3

STROKE READINESS

Builds on the skills in Level 2 through additional guided

practice in deeper water.

Fish = Level 4 & 5

STROKE IMPROVEMENT /REFINEMENT

Develops confidence in the skills learned and improves

other aquatic skills.

SWIM LESSONS

Swim Lessons

Children are taught by certified American Red Cross Wa-

ter Safety Instructors. Each level will be taught skills that

are the building blocks of swimming, plus pool safety,

boating safety, use of personal floatation devices and wa-

ter games.

Parent / Child (ages 6mo—3yrs)

Shrimp & Kippers

Developed for children 6 months to 3 years, Parent and

Child Aquatics (Shrimps & Kippers) helps young children

get ready to swim by emphasizing fun in the water. Parents

and children participate in several guided practice sessions

that help kids learn elementary swimming skills, including

water entry, bubble blowing, front kicking, back floating,

underwater exploration and more.

Aquatics Programs

United States Masters Swimming

Ages 18 and older

The Sandusky Area Masters Y (SAMY), a registered

United States Masters Swimming (USMS) team, is

open to swimmers ages 18 and older. Any swimmer

interested may contact/email Nick Douglass at:

Tsunami Swim Team: Ages 5—21: This program is designed to introduce the sport of competitive

swimming as well as challenge those who have already participated. The focus of this program is to build on

fundamentals, endurance, fitness and to challenge the swimmer against their current abilities with an emphasis on

setting goals and achieving those goals. All levels including beginners are encouraged to participate. Team members

must be YMCA members to compete at meets.

Requirements:

*5-8 year olds must be able to swim 25 meters

*9-19 year olds must be able to swim 50 meters

Summer Swim Team Starts in May 2014

Looking for a great job?

Lifeguarding course provides participants age 15 or older

with the skills needed to be professional lifeguards,

including preventing and responding quickly and

CHILD CARE & EARLY LEARNING

Preschool

The Sandusky Area YMCA is excited to announce their newly structured Preschool Program. The YMCA

will now be offering a morning Preschool session 5 days a week from 8:30-11:30 AM. We will continue to

offer our extended day options from 6:30 AM until 6:00 PM.

Preschool Prep (ages 2 1/2 to 4)

Our Preschool Prep program emphasizes social interaction, fine and gross motor skills, science and nature activities,

cultural and art activities and outdoor play. We encourage the development of a positive attitude toward peers, adults,

and teachers.

Pre-Kindergarten ( one year prior to entering Kindergarten)

Our Pre-Kindergarten program offers your child a chance to grow and learn in time for their kindergarten year. The

teachers provide a nurturing & caring environment to help your child develop. We offer science, math, art, fine and gross

motor activities, beginning phonics and much more.

Yearly Registration Fee (Non-refundable): $30

Rates:

Preschool only (8:30-11:30 AM): $12 Per Day

Extended Day: $28 Per Day or $120 Per Week

School-Aged Child Care—Grades K-6

School-Age Child Care is a school based, state licensed child care program for children ages 5-12. Daily activities

include: snack, crafts, science, indoor/outdoor games, board games, puzzles, sports and much more. For more

information call the YMCA at 419-621-9622.

Registration fees: $30 for the first child, $20 for the second child.

YMCA After School / Sandusky & Perkins:

An after school child care program housed at the Sandusky Area YMCA. Children will be transported from area schools

to the Sandusky Area YMCA. Kids’ Club runs weekdays after school until 6:00PM.

Cost: $10 per afternoon first child

$8 per afternoon each additional child

Fun Days / Snow Days:

The YMCA offers “fun day” activities for school-age children on school holidays and snow days. Children grades K-6

may participate in special activities at the YMCA, such as gym games, swimming, and arts & crafts. Fun Days begin at

6:30AM and all children must be picked up NO LATER THAN 6:00PM. Childcare enrollment papers must be

complete BEFORE your child can attend Fun Days, and space is limited. All participants must bring a sack lunch, swim

suit and towel.

Cost: $28 per day

All Child Care and Preschool programs are licensed through the State of Ohio

Dept. of Jobs & Family Services.

PARTIES AT THE Y

Join us for your birthday or special event. The Sandusky Area YMCA offers a variety of party options for all

ages. Birthday Parties, Scouts, Youth Groups, Teens or Family Get Together. NO ALCOHOL!

Birthday Parties—$3.00 per person with a $35.00 minimum requires a $35.00 deposit, this includes 2 hr. of

swimming & use of the meeting room during party (no gym or fitness usage) extra time is available @ rate of

$20 per hour.

Pool Parties—1-49 guests $125.00 requires a $75.00 deposit. 50+ guests $225.00 requires a $75.00 deposit.

Wedding or Baby Shower—$150.00 requires a $75.00 deposit (includes 3 hrs of use plus 1 hr setup and clean

up.)

Shelter/Tennis Courts— $25.00 per hr. requires a $75.00 deposit.

We require a deposit & signed contract 14 days prior to event to secure the date. Deposits are refundable after

the event if everything is cleaned with no damage. Birthday Parties require a $35 deposit. All other rentals

will require a $75.00 deposit. A 14–day notice is required for all cancellations or deposit is forfeited.
