GOOD ELECTRICAL PROPERTIE;S: Good as an electricalinsulator: volume resistivity is greater than 1016 ohm-cm, and isdialectric constant is 2.30 at 106 Hz and 2.34 at 100 Hz.
EASILY MACHINED: Wood or metal working machines canbe used to saw, turn, plane, drill, pierce, or mill.

Ultra High-molecular-weight polyethylenes (UHMWPE) havebeen defined by ASTM as those "linear polyethylenes whichhave a relative viscosity of 2.3 or greater, at a solution concentra-tion of 0,05%, at 135 degrees Celsius, in decahydronaptha-lene, ,
Nominal weight average molecular weight is 3 million orhigher, and grades are available from 3 to 7 million molecularweight. By contrast, normal HDPE resins have molecularweights in the range of 200,000 to 400,000.
UHMWPE has chemical, electrical, and other physical at-tributes quite similar to those of HDPE, but the extremely highmolecular weight gives it unique abrasion resistance, impactstrength, and special processing characteristics.
It is available n plates, sheets. blocks, billets, rod, tubes, andnumerous profiles using compression molding or ram extrusiontechniques. The resin is unsurpassed by any material, with theexception of certain filled UHMW formulations, when wearresistance, oughness, chemical inertness, low coefficient of fric-tion, and self-lubrication characteristics are required.
Ten excellent reasons o consider UHMW for critical applica-tions are:
HIGH ABRASION RESISTANCE: resists extreme slidingabrasion. Actual case studies show it will outwear steel 4 to 6times.
LOW COEFFICIENT OF FRICTION: TIVAR( J 100 is super-slippery. It promotes smooth and constant material flow, evenunder freezing conditions.
NON-STICKING: Most materials will easily relea&e fromTIVAR's surface. TIV AR reduces sticking, hang-up, and freezingof bulk materials.
HIGH IMPACT STRENGTH: TIV ARC > s used for dry movingapplications where lubricants are not acceptable, as n food pro-cessing.
SELF-LUBRICATING: TIVARC > s used for dry moving ap-plications where lubricants are not acceptable, as in food pro-cessing.CHEMICALLY INERT: TIVARC > s unaffected by most cor-rosive industrial environments. Resists most alkalis, acids, andcommon industrial chemicals to 80C.
ZERO WATER ABSORPTION:Parts fabricated from TIVAR( Jcan operate submersed without swelling.
MEETS FDA/USDA REQUIREMENTS FOR FOOD CON-TACT: Meet requirementsior direct food contact as outlines inFDA and USDA Regulations. Odor-free, taste-free, non-corrosive, and physiologically inert.

Flow Promotion SurfacesTivar ultrahigh molecular weightpolyethylene (UHMW) providesanswers for wear and friction incomponents used in unit conveyingand for moving wet, sticky or fine
materials n hoppers and chutes.Whether you're rice bran throughchutes and hoppers, pizza doughthrough augers, or poultry throughfreezer systems, TIVAR UHMWproducts can help provide smooth, predictable operations.
Engineered with the highest mole-cular weight available, TIVARdelivers the plastic properties need-ed in the food processing industrySelf-lubricating, even at -300 C,TIVAR's low coefficient of frictionmakes the perfect sliding surface for
sticky, fine, hard-to-move bulk mate-rials. A high resistance to corrosivechemicals and high resistance toimpact shock enable TIVAR to with-stand serious abuse. And because itfights sliding abrasion so well,11VAR s a natural choice to use forcomponent parts, wear strips andslide plates; anywhere sliding wearcannot be tolerated.
So far we've discussed the fourkey characteristics of TIVAR: FlowPromotion, Abrasion Resistance,Corrosion Resistance and ShockStrength. The combination of these, its light weight (a 3/8" X 48" X 120"sheet weighs only 75 pounds), highdielectric strength for excellent elec-trical insulation properties, ease offabrication and overall low costcompared to other metals, ceramicsand polymers make TIVAR the idealmaterial for many demandingaoolications.
