This evening, the club plays the rubber match against the Giants and closes out its six-game homestand (3-2). Last week, the Giants took three of four from the Dodgers at AT&T Park in San Francisco, despite Los Angeles holding at least a two-run lead in each contest. Tomorrow, the Dodgers travel to Atlanta and Tuesday begin a six-game road trip that features series against the Braves (3) and Rockies (3). The Dodgers went 6-3 against the Giants at Dodger Stadium in 2015 and have won five of their last six home games when facing San Francisco. Last year, Dodger relievers posted a 1.78 ERA (6 ER/30.1 IP) in eight games against the Giants at Dodger Stadium and did not allow a home run. The last two nights, the bullpen has fired 7.0 consecutive perfect scoreless innings with seven strikeouts. In 2015, the Dodgers posted the best home winning percentage in Los Angeles history and the fifth-best mark in franchise history at .679 (55-26). The 55 home wins tied for the most in LA history along with the 1980 club (55-27). Los Angeles is opening the season with 13 consecutive games against divisional opponents after posting a .605 winning percentage against NL West clubs last year (46-30). The Dodgers are attempting to become the first team since the National League West began in 1969 to win four consecutive division titles. The only teams with three-in-a-row are the Dodgers (2013-15) and Braves (1991-93). Tonight’s game is the Dodgers’ first appearance on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball in 2016. Last year, the club was the featured game of the week on ESPN four times (vs. St. Louis, vs. San Francisco, at Pittsburgh, vs. Cubs), going 1-3. The Dodgersfirst Sunday Night Baseball game was not until June 7 last year. I KENTA GIVE UP RUNS: Dodger starters have combined to go 5-2 and rank among the Majors’ best in ERA (4 th , 2.82 ERA, 23 ER/73.1 IP), opponents’ batting average (1 st , .198, 53-for-268), hits per nine innings (1 st , 6.50) and WHIP (T-1 st , 0.97). Tonight’s Dodger starter, Kenta Maeda, has begun his career with 12.0 consecutive scoreless innings in which he has struck out eight and walked just one. He started Tuesday’s home opener against the Diamondbacks and tossed 6.0 shutout frames, joining Kazuhisa Ishii (2002) and Karl Spooner (1954) as the only Dodgers to begin their career with two scoreless starts. His streak of 12.0 consecutive scoreless innings is the fourth longest in Los Angeles history to begin a career, behind Dave Stewart (18.1 IP, 1978-81), Bob Welch (15.1 IP, 1978) and Pedro Astacio (14.0 IP, 1992) Source: Elias Sports Bureau. According to Elias, no pitcher since 1900 has started his MLB career with three straight scoreless starts of at least 6.0 innings. Maeda was signed to an eight-year contract with Los Angeles in January and previously pitched for eight seasons in Japan for Hiroshima (2008-15), compiling a 97-67 record with a 2.39 ERA in 218 games (217 starts). During the course of his Japanese career, Maeda won two Sawamura Awards (2010, 2015), given to the league’s best pitcher. TURNIN’ THE PEN AROUND: The aforementioned Dodger bullpen has been fantastic of late, tossing 5.0 scoreless frames last night and currently owning a scoreless innings streak of 12.0 since April 13. In that time, the ‘pen has yielded just two hits (2-for-36) while striking out 13 and walking just three. Pedro Baez (1.1 IP), Kenley Jansen (2.2), Yimi Garcia (2.0), J.P. Howell (2.0), Chris Hatcher (1.0), Adam Liberatore (2.0) and Joe Blanton (1.0) have done the heavy lifting during the streak. SHUTTING THE DOOR: Dodger closer Kenley Jansen has closed the door on four of the Dodgers’ seven victories and is tied for fourth in the Majors with four saves. Jansen has successfully converted his last 16 save opportunities dating to Aug. 26, 2015 and is 15 saves shy of Eric Gagné’s Dodger-franchise record of 161 career saves. GETTING’ KIKÉ WITH IT: Dodger super-utilityman Kiké Hernandez delivered again last night, going 1-for-4 while driving in the first Dodger run of the game on an RBI-single.
