Mast Kalandar
Gaurav Jain
2000 Batch
[email protected] times you realise that your past does shape your
future. Opening a restaurant had always been a
dream for Gaurav Jain, and when the
implementation period came he was actually doing
the research work, thrashing out the business
model, deciding on the intricacies of running the
place, enlisting vendors, finalizing a large, spacious
and comfortable location.
Mast Kalandar started
operations in a 3,000 sq ft
rented space on the
Banerghatta road on the
outskirts of Bangalore. It was
2006 and the place wasn't as
developed, but it worked out well. Relying just on
years ago when many IMTians were still taking
kinder garden steps, Rajeev became the youngest
CEO of India. Rajeev featured in the Top 10 most
powerful Indian CEOs along with Narayan Murthy,
Ambani brothers, Ratan Tata, Azim Premji and
Kishore Biyani in 2004 and is also ranked amongst
the Top 3 Business and Management Consultant.
He is the founder of many marketing and business
forums and clubs both in India and abroad.
In October 2011, he
launched Milagrow HumanTech
had entered the Tablet PC
market with the World's first
TabTop PC, focused on
professionals, promising to make
Laptops and other Tablets
history. The journey began with the launch of the
TabTop 8.4 which the media termed as the most
ported out tablet India had ever seen. This wasdeveloped, but it worked out well. Relying just on
word of mouth the Jains had a turnover of 25 lakhs
after the first year of operations.
Mast Kalandar serves a mixed vegetarian cuisine
from Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and
Delhi which as a vegetarian place attracts both
vegetarians and non-vegetarians. The food is
cooked fresh every day. The raw food is
transported in imported temperature controlled
boxes, which can preserve freshness for up to 10
hours.
Today Gaurav Jain is a happy man with a projected
turnover of 50 crores, 600 employees and
operations based out of 35 outlets in four cities.

Rajeev Karwal
1984 batch
Our alumnus of 1984 batch and the Consumer
Durables industry icon Rajeev Karwal founded
Milagrow HumanTech, the Number 1 Domestic
Robots company in India and a fast growing brand
in the fiercely competitive Tablet PC space. Long
ported out tablet India had ever seen. This was
followed by the launch of India's slimmest tablet,
the TabTop 7.4, which went on to be called the
'finest economy tablet' by NDTV Gadget Guru and
CNBC TV18. As of yesterday, it was the 1st and only
Indian tablet to be listed on the Wikipedia tablet
comparison page.
Today, after many strong launches under its belt
and, continuous effort to provide feature rich
tablets, Milagrow is beginning to be known in India
and other parts around the world for innovative
and high quality devices.
In January 2012, Milagrow launched the World's
Leading Home Cleaning Robots in India. The
RedHawk, which is India's Number 1 home robot, is
dedicated to India's only Badminton Olympic
medalist, Saina Nehwal, and her coach P.
Gopichand. Then came the World's 1st Window
Cleaning Robot. The latest introduction is the
World's 1st Massaging Robot which has received
huge publicity worldwide, after its launch in Las
Vegas at the Consumer Electronics Show 2013.
Recently, Milagrows pioneering efforts were
recognised internationally when it was mentioned
in a Financial Times (London) article on the 'Future
of Robots.'

IMT ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
The IMT Alumni Association is a registered legal
entity which was formed to work for the benefit
of the IMT alumni. It is registered under the
Welfare Societies Act and therefore no individual
can gain personal benefits from this venture. The
President Alumni Relationship Committee and
The Director IMT are permanent nominated
members in the Executive Board of the Alumni
Association. This is done with the intend so that
the Alumni Association (which comprises of the
alumni) and the Alumni Relation Committee
(which comprises of the current students,
Director and nominated / elected alumni
Most projects at the moment are outsourced and
therefore it is upto the alumnis sole discretion to
take a call if or not to go for the project. For each
initiative therefore a team of IMT alumni is set up,
who are experts in that context. This group
evaluates the project on relevant parameters and
then introduces it to the larger base of alumni.
IMT Alumni Association does not intend to seek
funds or sponsorships for any of its activities and
yet needs to be a self-sustaining model. Going
forward we might look at hiring resources who can
contribute towards the association activities. One
of the thoughts in this direction is to hire an IMTianDirector and nominated / elected alumni
members) at the institute work with the
common objective of building Brand IMT. The
Alumni Association and the Alumni relationship
committee are therefore two separate bodies
but the President of the Alcom is nominated by
the Association. All IMTian passing out before
2011 are life members of the association, from
the year 2012 onwards a nominal fee of Rs.500
is charged as a lifetime membership fee.
The Alumni Association has seen a modest
beginning, but going forward the vision of the
association is to build platforms of common
benefit for the alumni that will bind them
together. The initiatives may not be customised
to an individuals requirement, but as long as the
initiative is built on the promise of benefitting a
large number of alumni, the association will
support it.
Most projects at the moment are outsourced
and therefore it is upto the alumnis sole
discretion to take a call if or not to go for the
project. For each initiative therefore a team of
IMT alumni is set up, who are experts in that
context. This group evaluates the project on
relevant parameters and then introduces it to
the larger base of alumni.
of the thoughts in this direction is to hire an IMTian
who is currently on a career break, but is able to
spare a few hours every week to do the needful
alumni related work. However to do this, we need a
source of fund. The funds collected therefore are to
be used for these purposes to start with plus
administrative expenses like registration fees, fee
paid to CA for maintaining accounts, submitting
returns, etc.
Some of the recent projects of the Alumni
Association have been:
The Online IMT Merchandise shop
The association has tied up with Alma Mater a
reputed specialised online portal that offers college
merchandise like T Shirts, Mugs, other gift items.
Alumni can log on to the site almamaterstore.in/imt
and purchase online. The products will be directly
delivered by almamater to the address specified. It
is also possible to design your own T shirts on the
site.
It has been a constant endeavor of the IMT Alumni
Committee to build relationship between the
Alumni and the Institute and therefore build Brand
IMT.
The Annual Alumni meet: The theme AMPHI
NIGHTS was chosen to throwback the feisty days of
college life and take you to a nostalgic walk. A setup
of the Amphi stage was there at the venue with the
DJ playing your favourite college time numbers.
Amphi has been a part of the IMT culture for most
IMTians and almost triggers nostalgia in the heart
of every IMTians. The other place many of the
alumni recollect is the Chungi and the Goverdhan
ka parthas. So Chungi for the Parathas was set up
at the venue. The meet was organized in 6 major
cities: Mumbai + Hyderabad on 9th November,
Delhi + Chennai on 23rd November and Kolkata +
Bangalore on 30th November 2013.
KnowledgeKonnect: A series of guest
lectures by distinguished alumni from
various sectors, was one such initiative
that was well received by the student
fraternity and the alumni alike. It was a
great learning experience for the
current students. The icing on the cake
was the motivational session by Krish
Dhanam, prolific public speaker in the
United States as well as one of our most
celebrated alumni. Krish Dhanams
session captivated the student
community and triggered a huge wave
of appreciation to the committee in the
days that followed.
HR alumni meet in Delhi and Mumbai
was organized, which saw active
participation from our alumni in the HRThe Director IMT has strongly supported this
initiative and work has started to extend Chapter
meets at Dubai, Singapore and US soon.
The Alcom and Alumni Association also installed
and declared a special The Spirit of IMT award for
the alumni who has contributed significantly for the
alumni work and also done well in his professional
career. The award for the year was given to
Mr.Rajesh Kumar who has created jobs4imtians
and run it for more than a decade now.
participation from our alumni in the HR
field for a panel discussion on Engaging
Gen-Y.
Short term Projects: Alcom wishes to
thank the alumni for extending support
to the current students in the form of
Short term projects. More than 250
projects came in this year and helped
the students get a great experience and
exposure of the industry.
Looking forward to support in building up Alumni relationships and Brand IMT, The Alumni Relationship
Committee organized a Batch Champion election this year. The winners of the same were decided
through a poll among the batch mates. The selected candidates after having confirmed their availability
were declared as the Batch Coordinators. Moving ahead, the Batch Champions would be the
spokesperson for their batch and we request them to represent their batch in any events, activities,
engagements with IMT.
The Batch Co-ordinators will be a part of the external arm of IMT ALCOM. They will represent their
batch in any events/activities /engagements with IMT. This will help in a smooth coordination of events
like Reunion, HR Meet, AIM, inter-city Meet etc. The concept also aims at helping in maintenance of
accurate database details.
