Stocking Requirements
llied Systems Company is pleased toannounce the release of the Ranger
Model H Series II skidders. The Series IIincorporates many significant upgradesthat will make the H66DS and H67 skiddersmore reliable and more competitive.Check out these new features in the H skidders:
REAR FRAME
The H67 Series II grapple models have therear frame extended by 10 inches to pro-duce a wheelbase of 150 inches. This smallchange delivers big improvement in stabili-ty and pulling power. By transferring someof the weight forward, the Ranger can han-dle even larger drags and keep all thewheels on the ground.
HYDRAULIC SYSTEM
Hoses: The Ranger now uses Parker471ST hoses for the steering and thegrapple system. These hoses providesuperior abrasion resistance and aremore durable while at the same timehave a smaller diameter. The Cordurasleeve is no longer required.
Bulkhead fittings: To help reduce the time required to remove and replacesteering and grapple hoses, the Rangernow has a bulkhead where hose sectionscan be connected easily. The steeringhoses are reached through the frontaccess hatch. The grapple hoses areaccessible through the rear hatch.
Service brakes: The servicebrakes are now operatedthrough an independenthydraulic system with a mastercylinder. The operator gainsgreater confidence that thebrakes will function no matterwhat happens to the hydraulicsystem.
CAB
Several small enhancements total up to a much improved cab that will pleasethe operator greatly. The most importantchanges are the tilt steering wheel andthe wider steps.

Tilt steer: The steering wheel now can beadjusted up or down through an angle of40 degrees. Operators really appreciatethis feature.
Wider steps: The top step to the cab isnow 6 inches wider. This helps reduce theeffort climbingin and out ofthe machine.
In addition, the grapplecontrols are set flush, andthe battery disconnectswitch is relocated to be more accessible.
COOLING SYSTEM
The new radiator in the H Series repre-sents a major advance in delivering loweroperating temperatures. Lower tempera-tures lead very directly to a longer oper-ating life of all major components. This
new radiator has three inde-pendent coolingsystems locatedside-by-side, for the enginecoolant, trans-mission/torque converter oil, and thehydraulic oil.

GRAPPLE
Snubber: The snubber has beenredesigned to provide greater contactarea with the mating tabs, for a more reliable mounting. In addition, the newsnubber friction material is fiber reinforcedand more resistant to grease and oil, toprovide much longer life.
Arch guard: This new guard provides better protection for hydraulic hoses, fuel tank, and cab.
The Ranger Series II continues the Rangerstrengths of simplicity and reliability. Theserecent improvements will help you to beeven more competitive and to win thebusiness you deserve.
t’s not easy being a logger these days. You know first-hand that your Ranger
customers have plenty on their mindsbesides maintaining their skidder.Sometimes, in the heat of themoment, it may seem easier justto take a few shortcuts when itcomes to replacing the fluids. Butthe smart operatorknows better.Component lifedrops rapidly iffluid specifications arenot met and maintained.
Cooling system: Anti-freeze isn’t just forcold weather-it’s essential to have a 50-50mix all year around to maintain propercooling efficiency. Cummins also requiresmaintaining the proper level of SCA addi-tive in all “C” series engines. This additivehelps prevent liner erosion, which cancause ultimate engine failure.
Engine oil: Select the viscosity that’s rightfor the prevailing temperatures.Cummins engineers stress this detail
over and over.
Transmission fluid:Unfortunately, thereare far too manytypes of transmissionfluids available, and
selecting the right one mayseem like too much trou-ble. We’ve even heard ofoperators using motor oilin the transmission. It’s veryimportant to ensure that
the specified fluid be used consistently, toensure maximum life of the transmissionand torque converter. As a factory fill, weuse Mobilfluid 424, which has proven tohelp reduce operating temperatures signifi-cantly, and has a very broad ambient oper-ating temperature range.
Hydraulic oil: We recommend Mobil DTE13M, which is our factory fill. However, there are many brands and types ofhydraulic oil, and not all meet the factoryfill specification. We suggest that the localsupplier knows of the initial fill brand andtype and can guarantees in writing anyequivalent substitute used, particularlyduring the Warranty period.
Note that hydraulic oil also is available in many different viscosities. The oil usedmust be suitable for the local ambient andoperating temperatures and conditions.
If you have any questions involving properlubricants and factory fill specificationscontact the Allied Systems CompanyService Department.
llied Systems Company recognizes the challenges associated with
maintaining responsive inventory stocking levels. To ensure maximumcustomer service and satisfaction, dealers must inventory a consistentquantity of critical and highly activereplacement parts. For those dealerswho want to fine-tune their inventorystocking parameters, ASC is pleased to offer a free Parts Sales HistoryAnalysis Report, which shows a dealer’sservice parts purchases over a specifiedtimeframe. Sorted in part numbersequence, this report shows the num-ber of purchases, the ordered/shippedquantity, the price paid, and the totalsales for the given time period.
Some of the benefits associated with using this report are:
 Improved inventory stocking levels
Reduced emergency order purchases for highly active parts
 Reduced freight costs
To begin taking advantage of this helpful tool, pleasecontact the ASC Service PartsDepartment. All you have tospecify is the time period ofinterest and we will fax youthe report within 24 hours.
